Never mind...read some earlier posts and it is. I remember Ernie Ford when I was just a kid but forgot about this song. Man, where did all the real musicians go?
And when he called on a pap, like the gentlemen order, he said no brush honers gonna get my BONER. He cocked back the hammer right on the spot, and gunned with alpha right on the shot. Shotgun Boogie. I got a windesbell. I'll be back when papa runs out of shells.
@mcveigh1598 I love those..and don't forget blueberry boogie! I count Tennessee Ernie Ford as one of the original voices of rock and rool, not just rockabilly.
is not right... Cliffie Stone was a great record producer & talent scout (and sometimes) bass player... this video has Merrill Moore on piano--no doubt about it...!!
"that slide guitar and the Fender Telecaster....probably worth thousands now "
Probably more than that. About 18 yrs ago I had a Fender Broadcaster and a very early Telecaster stolen. Fortunately I had a couple of photos and lots of paperwork on them. The dealer's estimate for each of them was a MINIMUM of ten thousand dollars. No way to prove they still looked as mint as in the photos, so insurance gave me just ten grand apiece.
This is from 1951, and I definitely think it's part of the start of Rock-A-Billy. Whether or not you think Tennessee Ernie Ford is rebel enough, you can't tell me this isn't white country-boy rock and roll.
The only other close thiing would be Bill Halley's cover of "Rocket 88" which came out in May of 1951. But no one heard it and "Shotgun Boogie" was a tremendous hit.
"Rock around the clock" itself was basically a country boogie song, w/o fiddles or steel guitar. The "winding" up and down of the guitar, and the use of double stops were used heavily in country boogie.
