I like your style Rob. I've enjoyed all of these videos. I learned parabolic mirror method from my uncle. Avid beer drinker extraordinaire.Its a bit difficult to pull off here in the Ozark Highlands, but its a good way to impress a crowd on a comping trip. I once set my moms sofa on fire with a crystal ball I threw over my shoulder when she told me to clean my room. That was my first experience with sunlight induced fire. :) Beat my head good she did. I suspect that the whole of YouTube is in a bit of a frenzy after discovering that the guy from Davidsfarm is a convicted paedo. As a result, anyone over 30 who looks or acts a bit weird seems to be under suspicion at the moment.

Very funny but I think constructing a bow drill and getting a fire going that way would be easier and quicker than polishing the bottom of a beer can to reflect sunlight. Of course using your method might allow enough time for the ugly broad to die of hypothermia... just saying

Sure, the bowdrill is usually the most reliable method if you've practiced and have the right materials. If people are lookng for a single method to learn, I'd always say to go for the bow.

The quickest and easiest method of all is probably a lens, if you have sun. And a lens, obviously. Vikings (and others) would carry round small balls made of quartz. With the right target (tinder fungus, bark-fibre ball, etc) it takes a few seconds I'll be posting a video soon.

Have you never sat around a good fire with a bunch of friends and some beer and some hot babes (not necessarily bearded)? I reckon one of the main reasons fire was so important for human survival was precisely the SOCIAL aspect of it. I've seen people talking, snging, eating, drinking, arguing, laughing, making music, dancing and even making out around fires.

Here in South Africa, a fire is often referred to as "Bushman Television".

Hey Rob just wanted to give you a update. I've been experimenting with my own fire start techniques and so far I now have a small collection of soda polished soda cans and beer tins for starting fires and recently I have been able to start a fire using the 'bow and drill' method. It took some practice to work out all the bugs and things i was doing wrong but I finally got a ember with just a few sticks and a shoe lace.
