Never done this before, so sorry if i sound silly, but i'm gonna get an HD Radeon 4850 (dat budget) and it requires a 450W psu with the 75W 6 pin cable, blah blah. Will all PSUs come with the cable?
@Sup654 Very, very relative question. If we are talking strictly FASTEST ingle GPU card on the market-AMD 7970. But at a cost of about 450GBP it is not for most people an affordable option.
Plus you also have to consider the specs of your machine first. If you need help deciding PM me.
It can run it at high on a lower resolution by that I mean lower than 1080p.
I have a 5770 stock and it can't run BF3 at high. It's possible but it is not that fun to play. Medium is the optimal setting to play, possibly even low but that's if you want the best FPS.
@Maddehh26 You would turn off the integrated graphics first, then you would uninstall drivers of the old gfx card. You then should be able to replace.

Do I have to install any kind of software for a new graphics card? Or do I just take the old one out and put the new in, plug the computer back on and do nothing extra?
@epsilon881 The CD software basically contains graphic card drivers and information, which can also be downloaded from the internet. So basically plus the computer back on and test the graphic card. (Launch games, resolution etc).
@Hawkboi55 Ah I see. Now, do I have to look for computer requirements for buying a new graphics card or are they all standard to work with any modern machine?
@epsilon881 Not all are standard, there are the AGP and PCI. AGP were made until 2006-08 i think, and now PCI are more modern and being bought from customers. @Hawkboi55 Ok thx. I have NVidia GeForce 9500 gs. The fan inside it makes rattling noise, people I talked to say it's actually ok if you can tolerate the sound which I am. But I'll probably buy a new one - same or better.
@Hawkboi55 Yea i opened it up a week ago, the fan is touching the black cover by a millimeter which is what makes the noise. You dont happen to know if they sell just the fan without the whole shebang?

i have bought a new graphics card, XFX ATI Radeon HD 5850 for my system, but my computer dose not have a PCI express power, where can i get a PCI express power from?
@mirnomanbaloch Do you mean your motherboard soen't have a PCI express slot or you don't have a cable from your power supply? If it is the 1st then you'll need to get a new motherboard, the second would be a cable you'll need to buy.
@mirnomanbaloch this is a simple solution all you need to do is either get a new power supply (P.S. last resort make sure nothing plugs into it) or get an adapter for the cable.
I know alot about computer as its the way forward in life, but this is a stupid question the PCI-E does that need to be connected to the graphic card, cuz my power supply doesnt have one, but i have bought a supply that does, soo if i connect that up will it resolve my problem, as my computer doesnt recognize my graphics card,.
i did that for my new ati radeon 5770 the same way you did and now the monitor wont show anything just telling me to plug in the dvi cable. Everything in my computer looks fine though. HELP!!!!
i know this is a little late xD but your computer might not be able to handle the card check your mobo (motherboard) and your power supply and see if you have enough voltage
@Chris246t8kr lol you don't wanna bottle neck, make sure everything is compatible, if you have Intel you should probably use an i7 or something since you want the best graphics card, an i5 might bottleneck a bit so. as for RAM u should have at least 4GB and of course you'll need a quality PSU at around, well, at least 850W is what i'd go for but you could prob go lower.
just ground your hands to the metal chassis before you handle components. No need for the strap.

i have bought a new graphics card, XFX ATI Radeon HD 5850 for my system, but my computer dose not have a PCI express power, where can i get a PCI express power from?
thank you
mirnomanbaloch 11 months ago
@mirnomanbaloch Do you mean your motherboard soen't have a PCI express slot or you don't have a cable from your power supply? If it is the 1st then you'll need to get a new motherboard, the second would be a cable you'll need to buy.
NoobyJesus 11 months ago
@mirnomanbaloch this is a simple solution all you need to do is either get a new power supply (P.S. last resort make sure nothing plugs into it) or get an adapter for the cable.

I know alot about computer as its the way forward in life, but this is a stupid question the PCI-E does that need to be connected to the graphic card, cuz my power supply doesnt have one, but i have bought a supply that does, soo if i connect that up will it resolve my problem, as my computer doesnt recognize my graphics card,.

@TearingMeFromWithin no

@TearingMeFromWithin No. Laptops use GPUs that usually aren't changeable and are smaller than these.

Actually, the GPU is not the graphics card, it stands for "Graphics Processing Unit." A graphics card is the GPU, video RAM, etc. combined together.

Right when he plugged it in, my computer started to exhaust harder lol. (My computer's 3 years old, and I run a lot of Flash and 3D stuff on it).

If, for example I buy the newest and best-out-there graphics card, do I need to update any other components in my computer?
Chris246t8kr 1 year ago
@Chris246t8kr Biggest thing I believe would be to check your PSU to see if it could handle all your components running at max power.

@huskermania Thanks :) And a very informative video. I get quite nervous when it comes to opening my computer up and touching things.
Chris246t8kr 1 year ago
@Chris246t8kr
i know this is a little late xD but your computer might not be able to handle the card check your mobo (motherboard) and your power supply and see if you have enough voltage
wowgeek25 1 year ago
@Chris246t8kr lol you don't wanna bottle neck, make sure everything is compatible, if you have Intel you should probably use an i7 or something since you want the best graphics card, an i5 might bottleneck a bit so. as for RAM u should have at least 4GB and of course you'll need a quality PSU at around, well, at least 850W is what i'd go for but you could prob go lower.

How come you didn't just buy a GTS 450 or HD 5670-5770 card?
Any of those cards would be faster. (with exception to the 5670, the 5670 would be about the same.)
ksidornseif 1 year ago
@ksidornseif I look back and kick myself for it. I bought the card about 8 months ago, so idk if it was out then or not.
