  • The Swiss Guards are comprised of Swiss nationals that completed their national service and have voluntered to enter the Guards. Their uniforms are very traditional, but when the Pope is out and about they wear suits, carry pistols, MP5's, the whole nine yards. They are like the secret service for the pope!

  • 0:55 the one clown walks by like yo whattup nigga

  • What the fuck is this?

  • you guys realise the soldiers that guard the pope are hand selected from military groups, not these fuck faces but the ones with the m16s

  • they only have that wtf weres the m16's

  • @XxAIRSOFTN00BSxX fuck the M16, these guys got SIG SG 550's

  • 0:20 LOL!!!!! Psycho motor problems.. left hand swing and left leg forward.. Oh yes I have done that before... but it can be remedied with a skip.. :)

  • uumm i respect all nationality of the military

but i cant take these guys seriously

  • Looks kinda like the harlequin from assassin's creed brotherhood.

  • @stuffers09 xD !!!!!!!!!!!

  • clowns guard the pope?

  • @kylecbenton

they have a completely modern and equipped armory with machine guns, grenades and of the like. They just never really had to use them... ever.

  • @VonCakeMaster Actually, they used them one time. 1981, assassination attempt of Pope John Paul III.

  • @VonCakeMaster Yeah, that makes sense. i just think those dress uniforms are a little ridiculous...

  • @kylecbenton

    It's tradition. That's all I can say.

  • @kylecbenton I bet anyone of these guys could kick your ass.

  • @kylecbenton

clowns with polearms who don't give a single fuck

  • @kylecbenton Hop that wooden barricade and find out.

  • The Swiss Guard is the only unit of Swiss citizens in foreign service...for centuries, the Swiss were recruited as mercenaries by many European powers and were often employed as guards because of their courage and steadfast loyalty (e.g. the slaughter of the Swiss Guard as they protected the Pope during the Sack of Rome in 1527, and the massacre of the French Swiss Guard at the Tuileries in 1792). The Papal Swiss Guard is the only "mercenary" force now allowed by Swiss law.

  • these guys don't seem very precise.

  • @rodjohnson69

Remember, this is not supposed to be a "military" unit, but a personal household guard. To use a UK comparison, the Swiss Guard is like the Yeomen of the Guard (the Beefeaters in Tudor uniforms) rather than the elaborately drilled Queen's Guard from the British army. That being said, only those who have top marks in arms skills and discipline during their national service in the Swiss Army are "invited" to join the Swiss Guard.

  • Do not insult the swiss guard, they are something that are in high reguard, and very few get the honor to be, and yes they are military trained, of the swiss military, and in hand to hand combat with many wepons, they are not just ceremonial but are a real army also, and I think their other uniforms make them look handsome, not as flashy are the dress uniform but more laid back and almost like sailors of sorts and they are usually really tall and nice looking bet the ladies love them.

  • @manga12 Are you stupid? they are called the Swiss guards but are trained by the Italian army, This is in Italy.

  • No they do service in switzerland first and are trained there first before they become the swiss guard of the vatican, and they use standard arms in guns as they do in switzerland, and vatican is its own city state independant of rome and italy itself.

  • @manga12 ahh, my mistake then. My appolgies.

  • It seems strange that a ostensible holy man would copy the guard practices of secular imperial powers (nations). Know he got an "embassy" also. So does that compromise a catholic's capacity to be american? obviously, it is Theocracy and Idea Nationalism at points (Catholic Nationalism, based in Theocracy and vision of subjugated world to Theocracy)--- & he has secular style military. It communicates he is just political.

  • @westchesterny so a man who leads 1.2 billion folks shoudn't be gaurded righttt

  • i was wondering, why do they use swiss guards at the Vatican? i thought it was in Italy (in vatican city)

  • @EastPennDrumline

because Swiss soldiers always had a very high reputation for being loyal, hard working and very disciplined. They once were stationed all over Europe at important places. But the Swiss guard in the Vatican is the only one that still exists. They have been serving the Holy Father since 1506.

  • @Falc1NL

well no not really, they have a lot of fun watching tourists^^

  • Arrow storm them xD!

  • A guard with glasses, Oh no =.=

  • woah having that job seems boring..

  • They can't even march that well!

  • @76tezzyd

Dont worry, they can kill you well!

  • ahahahahaah....A giudicare dai commenti la maggior parte della gente - qui - sembrano essere ignoranti come capre..ahahahaDX

  • tic toc

  • What a great job!!! I bet that having "dressing up funky , walking with a stick in my ass, and playing the statue" would fill up my resume and life accomplishment!

  • @bmradux idiot.

    1. to even be in the swiss guard you must have been a recommended swiss soldier.

    2. this is a catholic devotion before manhood (you cant be older then 30 to join) its not about improving your CV

3.belive it or not, but some shops even have on their recommended list "if no prior work history, military service is a + and in swiss (swiss guards are often always accepted because their loyality and code of conduct.

  • @quezcatol now you're probably an american and doesnt realise this, but been a swiss guard at one point is a sign of great moral and responsibility, defending one of the most important people in christian faith, is something not to be admired for? yeah, mayby not in your "circle" of geeks and atheist.

  • @quezcatol To be a guard you don't need recommendations or even a a high rank or medals, you just need to have done the basic training in the Swiss army, be more than 1.74m, have a professional degree or high school diploma and be between 19-30 years old. And they've only been recieving real bodyguard training since '81... Other than that they had a yearly rifle shooting competition and some self defense. Don't force awsomeness where there is none to be found

  • What a stupid religion. A billion dollar business based off a book written thousands of years ago.

  • @cwood4ever A book that states that "Money is the root of all evil", yet it's constantly asked for at churches...

  • @cwood4ever pretty smart actually. Dont you think? I think youre the stupid one. Look at all that power

  • @GatBoy7 lol I guess but then again I wouldnt murder millions of people just because someone thought they may or may not practice which craft or be Jewish. The Catholic Church was paved over millions of peoples dead bodies.

  • maybe these guys are highly trained, but their costumes looks like buffoon.

    sorry if offended someone.

  • @schanghel: these are highly trained military men. Wanna try calling one of them that, face-to-face, alone in a room behind closed doors and without any witnesses? I didn't think so. STFU you turd. My brother is a Marine gunny who spent some time with Swiss Guards and he was thoroughly impressed with them.

  • before english protestants come trolling here and tell that these guards look like clowns,go look at your quee(n)r faggot quards first, they all wear black afros.

  • @Teh3xcalibur Ummmm What? I do not subscribe to any religion, but to say English protestants came in here with there fag hats is stupid. Its tradition nothing can be dumb.

  • @Teh3xcalibur HAHAHA well said! :)

  • Gay"s!!!!

  • Keep making fun of these soldiers, but keep in mind this: In their 500 years of service to the Pope, they have never lost one battle. These men are among the elite. Don't let the flambuoyant costumes fool you. They do carry and are trained with the latest guns. They will use lethal force if they perceive something as a serious threat. You don't believe me? Try running past that gate, or even that tourist barricade. You will get shot. They protect the most important man in the world, the Pope.†

  • Assassin's Creed.

  • As if he was tick tocking

  • guarding the mighty portaloo

  • It's funny to think these guys were the delta force of the middle ages.

  • Thanks for sharing this video..

  • look at that guy with glasses at the wooden guard post. I thought you must ge 1.75. Hes 1 head least than the bald man.

  • No offence but compared to say the Guards of The Tomb Of The Unkown Soldiers these guys dont look very proffessional at all its all about the timimg and the proffesionality of it all. These guys just dont look that good compared to others. Hey its just my opinion.

  • @crusnix there is no way to wear this clothes and look professional at the same time

  • @crusnix Gotta agree on that

  • @crusnix no one does it better than the British! =)

  • hammer time

  • sweet! how many swiss guard is there?!

  • sweet

  • The replacement guard to 'square-gating' a term given to military members when they march incorrectly. He is not moving his arm in time with his steps. It's really annoying to watch after being in the military.

  • @Or1onBelt Yeah, it bugs me, too. He's probably new to the Guard.

  • @Or1onBelt Yes i noticed same thing, you would think they would know their arse from their elbow before been put out on stag.

  • @Or1onBelt I Second that...

  • I'd love to join the Swiss Guard, but I'm not a Swiss citizen, and I don't speak Italian.

  • Comment removed

  • They don't move the arms simultaneously....What a miss :S

  • what the fuck why do they have to guard the pope? because he might be arrested by the police for molestation??

  • @leklek69 dude people have attepted to attack the pope before in the 80s pope joohn paul was shot

  • @leklek69 My guess is your 10 years old with a comment like that.

  • @Planker09 My guess is your 70 years old and stilla virgin.

  • @1HiddeNAttacK No, I'm 22, and i've had sex with 17 females and 1 sheepdog.

  • Comment removed

  • @leklek69 Christianity is the worlds biggest religion and the pope is it president if you will. The pope is the more protected than any other man in the world.

  • new guard is don't know about marching or just confused. I expected well built people as guards there.

  • what happends if the guard needs to pee?

  • @MovieMusic102 Piss does not show if you do it in those big gay pants!

  • @MegaGayjesus hahaa

  • guarding against what?

  • boring job. unnecessary too.

  • @phillipmorrisco o yea? who the hell's gonna keep order in vatican let alone defend the pope.

  • I always loved the uniforms, but I wondered if there are swiss aetheists guarding the Vatican.

Do they take an additional oath or something? I'd join just for the PJ's. ..and to protect His Eminence's freedom of speech.

  • @00Billy they have to be catholic at leaston paper

  • TICKTOCKER! LOL

  • GOD SAVE THE POPE

  • Not sure if anyone noticed, but is the young Halbadier with the glasses "Bear Marching"?

Poor guy looked very awkward when he was marching to his post.

  • do they ever deploy fully equipted and armed guards??

  • As I recall, the Swiss Guards at this gate were wearing their pale blue uniforms. I wonder, by what standards do the decide where the fancy multicolored uniform is to be worn & the lesser uniform are to be worn.

  • @VictorLepanto The pale blue uniforms are the guards night uniorms. They are worn as the day moves into evening and throughout the night. Early in the moring the guardsmen return to the more colourful day uniforms.

    Hope that helps.
