  • That generation knew how to dance... Today's generation? Grinding is what you do at parties and clubs now. Or jump around pumping your fist in the air to some electronic computer beats.. so sad..

  • This lokks so fun. I so wish i was born in this time!

  • The great days of real dancing ... We need a revival these days

  • @ForeverOldiesO1 I completely agree! At dances now all you can do is grind (if youre into that) slow dance and jump-up-and-down dance.

  • This looks like SO much fun. Why cant I have been born during that era...I have to go to the school dances and watch sluts grind on everyone and everything. Classy.

  • I am a prepubescent male child born into certain misery and distress in the slums of New Delhi, India. This music is under-appreciated, I hardly ever see my friends listening to it.

  • I was born during this era, (1942) but when i got old enough to jitterbug and Lindy, it was all gone, replaced by doo-wop. That was okay, but never as good as this hot swing music and dancing. PBS pretends that it is, with all the re-creations of Rock and Roll memories. But it isn't. Take a hot Tommy Dorsey number, put some Boogie Woogie (never leave out the Woogie!) and nothing beats it.

  • There may be hope for the younger generation yet...

  • This will be yet another of those unnecessary race-comments, but when I look at old clips it seems like white people had no problems dancing wildly and awesomely in the 30's and the 40's, but then in the 50's and 60's they all seem stiff, uptight and off-beat.

  • WHY IS EVERYONE WRITING IN CAPS!

  • @tracyfox72 BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE I'M YELLING AND AM THEREFORE REALLY IMPORTANT, AND ALSO... AN ATTENTION WHORE!

  • I'm a fetus and I love this song.

  • im 13 years old and have decided i was born in the wrong decade!

  • No is too much for me, i can't sling that.

  • Haha this is fantastic! Thanks for posting! :)

  • I want her OUTFIT asgoisjdfoiajsdpogiashdpoaijsdfoiasjdpfoij I've been seracing forever.

  • This looks like so much fun!

  • I always enjoy listening to stories from my soon to be eighty-seven year old great grandma about her younger days! One of my favorites that she's told me is about how her and my grandpa(he died in WWII) would go dancing. He would work all day at a gas station, borrow my uncles' car and pick her up and they'd dance from about eight to eleven or twelve at night. He would then drop off the car at the gas station and walk her home, about a mile to and from her house. She still loves this music. = )

  • This dance style hasn't really lost it's charm and appeal. It's still very sexy, and elegant today, even in comparison with many other modern dance styles. The music is great too.

  • the 1940s make now and days look really bad lol...i wish it was like this

  • Nashville has a couple of places that do Lindy Hop and/or Single step swing. The dress code might be a problem though. Most people don't dress up (at least not in 40's style) here.

  • 10 years later and then whites finally found their foot to the rhythm... I am not being racial here, only stating an observation. Why, because i just watched a video where they didn't know what the hell to do when the music was playing... funniest thing I ever seen. The ballroom floor looked like they were gathered for a presidential speech. LOL!!! /watch?v=7zbUcp9vcR8&feature=related

  • There are actually a lot of places where they play this kind of music and people dance like this. Not usually with the dress code, but I have to say, a lot of current lindyhoppers I have seen actually dance better then the dancers in this video. Just look it up, I am sure there is a Lindy Hop scene in NY. We even have Lindy Hop in Texas, really good Lindy Hop. Also, San Francisco, and DC. Oh, and Sweden and Singapore.

  • Swing it!!

  • Sorry guys, but you can't stop progress, although you can make new good music again!

  • @darkwolf811 I'm alright with social progress, just not... well, style progress. How did we go from tie and neat to dirty sweatpants and hoodie? What's next, a one piece jumpsuit?

  • IM 21 YEARS OLD AND I LIVE IN THE INNERCITY AND THIS KIND OF MUSIC AND ART IS UNAPPRECIATED. I LOVE SWING THE DANCE THE MUSIC THE MOOD. THE ATMOSPHERE OF THIS MUSIC IS GREAT AND YOU CANT SIT STILL WHEN YOU LISTEN TO IT. I WISH TIMES WOULD GO BACK TO THIS MINUS THE RACISM BECAUSE IM AFRICAN AMERICAN LOL. THIS STUFF IS REALLY COOL THO AND IM SURPRISED THE SCHOOLS DONT REALLY EXPOSE THE STUDENTS TO THIS CLASSIC STUFF

  • I think theres a club in new york some were thats similar to this kind of music

  • my god i wish right now i wish our civilization and era stays like the 30's to the 50's

  • TOM AND JERRY

  • There swing clubs that only place this music if you do get the chance to go you wont regret it

  • what type of swing dancing are they doing at the start? is it improvised or lindy hop? i want to learn this!

  • whats the title of the song? anybody knows?

  • why was i brn in the 90's?!

    </3

    :(

  • I love this music, before my kids were born my husband I used to try and dance like this.

  • my grandfather was 13... how about that?

  • Id dew her

  • @ Beabit24 ...The music is by the Kay Kyser Band.

  • I love swing music! I listened to it when I was little with my daddy

  • I can't get over this woman's dancing. She is so fantastic and dancing with two men at once yet! Wish I could dance like that.

  • My career goal is to start a restaurant with big band music and old time styles. Cigar and brandy room and etc.

  • Dam Navy should have beat Army on that one !!

  • Aww!! i want to this at least once or twice before i die!

gosh alomost veverything from my generation is yuckie!

  • For all of you interested in learning lindy hop, yehoodi.com. World wide swing info, with primary focus in USA locations, but you can find links to your local lindy scene. Happy feet!

  • @Sassbreena ooh May The Holy Lord bless you inmensly! Thank you sooo much!! =DD

  • The world needs to have some more class.

  • @Xboxishomo I agree. People think Rap, Hard Rock, they think its class. Its actually nothing but a bunch of garbage. The rap brain washes the kids, they turn into criminals, druggies, and what not. You can actually get up and dance peacefully to this.

  • WHY COULDN"T I HAVE BEEN BORN DURING THIS TIME!!!!

  • @LaxplayerBlink182 Same here, because back then, it was peacefull.

  • @LaxplayerBlink182 World War II. Think of that, it would have been much worse. And you wouldn't been dancin' all the day! Would ya'?

  • @LaxplayerBlink182 My sentiments exactly

  • ahh the good ol days.. this takes me back to my high school days

  • This is fun music.

  • I'm only fifteen and this has to be one of my favorite music styles! I really wish people would still listen to stuff like this. They're really missing out.

  • Amazing dancing the for ever living swing love it

  • Profoundly charming.

  • i was born in the 90's I KNOW i was born 50-60 years TOO LATE! I LOVE the Big Band music!!

  • It has come back. Look up the nearest Lindy Hop classes near you!

  • bad ass video

  • man if i could pick a decade to be born in for the sake of music and dance...1940's hands down! these ppl had swag, the moves, and so much more!!!

  • Yeah, jive !!!!

  • @ThePinUpChannel That's not jive, that's real swing!

  • does anyone know where u can find sheet music for this kind of music?

  • I was born in the early 70's...and always thought I was born 30-40 yrs to late!! I love this stuff, and always have!! My Grandma use to tell me stories from her era, and it's always fascinated me!! I wish somedays, that yesterdays nostalgia would kinda come back!! Wow!!!

  • Dude there are still underground swing clubs in most if not all major cities.

  • check out my vid of "Paulo Nutini new release pencil full of lead with Al Minns and Leon James dancing"

  • @pkolk523

me too...they say I was born late too lol!!!

love swing and also the charleston

I don't know ...it just has something special that moves me <3 I can really feel that music :)

  • @pkolk523 I know what you mean. I feel the same way. Best music, dance, etc. ever!

  • I hear ya Petite & thugdog! This kind of music just reaches right in and grabs ya! I love everything about the "yesterdays" gone by! Life might've been a bit more physically demanding back then, but in a sense it just seems like it was alot more of a simplier life too! Now-a-days it seems like everyone's just keeping up with the Jones's newest, most detailed advances of what's technically available! In the 30's you felt lucky if you had a fridge! Now, good heavens if it's not in your car! ha!

  • When I lived in Southern Indiana, there was a swing dance group at Indiana University.

You might find a swing dance group at your local university, or you could check Yahoo Groups and see what's available, you Swinging Cat!

  • @pkolk523 Couldn't agree more! It's amazing!

  • @pkolk523 i'm 21 now, and i feel the same way about the 60s and 70s. i have so much nostalgia for a time that i never even experienced, but the music was fresh and revolutionary, just like jazz and swing was in the 20s, 30s, etc.

  • That's Jean Veloz, one of the all-time greats at smooth style Lindy. She is still out teaching and dancing at a spry 85 years of age. Just saw her a few weeks ago. She looks great.

  • IT NEEDS TO BE DURNT!!!! LOL

  • There should be a club with only this music and the dresscode needs to be the style of the early 40's otherwise you won't get in. :))) Maybe I should start own lol.

  • DO IT!!!!

  • Let me know when and where !!

  • Make the dress code whatver the modern fashion is. It would be way more interesting. You would be discarding the novelty card and challenging the main stream.

  • I totally agree :) Let me know when you started one, hehe :)

  • @8MinutesToSunrise and I would be a regular!! hehe

  • @8MinutesToSunrise Sombody really should...i have been looking alover for clubs that do that but nobody really does lol i would even help sombody set up the clubs it would be a blas!!

  • @8MinutesToSunrise DO IT!! i would live there.

  • @8MinutesToSunrise you should start it!

  • @8MinutesToSunrise OMG...if you do let me know!. honeslty.

  • @Czirro

Go to the Savory in Harlem!!!!

  • @8MinutesToSunrise hopefully you let black people in

  • @8MinutesToSunrise Sign me up!!!

  • @8MinutesToSunrise you should :)

  • @Sarah62471 Offcourse! I'm brown skinned myself XD hahaha.. no racism in my club then.

  • @8MinutesToSunrise no of course not, that would actually be amazing and so much fun i bet! There should be a whole parade/street of clubs each one from a different era with the music and the dress code and the dances, all in chronological order from the 20's to now- that would be like time travel :L

  • @8MinutesToSunrise please do it! this stuff is sooooooooo much better than bump n grind or fist pumping =p these folks sure did know how to party! I'm 20. I was born in the wrong decade....

  • @8MinutesToSunrise please please do!

  • @8MinutesToSunrise Go for it bro!

  • @8MinutesToSunrise There are a bunch of them all over. Very likely one near you if you live in a large enough city. Look up swing dance club or lindy hop. It's addicting! ;)
