just weighing in....also born 1956 and must say that your playing as always is unique and really great...i used RW (d'addario xl165) for most of my adult playing life but went back to flats just because they sounded and felt right for me. Keep it real Bobby V.
I most say all your Fender bass is great and very good sound i myself a Fender PJ model 69 with 57 and 62 bridge pickup Jaco one, i am very surprise about your P-bass sound is like for me like my 62 pickup sound but the 57 pickup is more warm i can say but i like your sound very much !...
@tbirdtim No, they dont sound better. They sound better to you. A lot of players cannot stand flatwounds. Let the man play his rounds, and he's not "bastardizing" the bass at all.
love your playing bobby, as always, but...would love to hear that bass w/ thomastic flats...they bring my old 65 to life and i bet you'd dig it once u got used to the feel...be forewarned tho; once u go flats u never go back.
bobby is such a great bass player, and he really gets a gorgeous sound. i love this video.

The white bass disliked this video because it wanted his attention

Round wounds are like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Flats don't bring out the harmonics like round wounds.Flats are good for r/b but r/w on a P bass are awesome for rock.....

Try the flatwounds. That's what all the legendary players used -- Jamerson, McCartney, Joe Osborn, Carol Kaye.
They feel AND sound so much better.

Yuck, I hate round wounds. Flat wounds just feel AND sound so much better.
Why would anyone take such a beautiful vintage instrument and bastardize is with those strings. Yuck and Puke.
