  • I'm not a cessationist but I also wouldn't divide over it. I dont speak in tongues either, and I think its equally bad when Christians tell me I must not be a spirit filled Christian. Its sad how the enemy gets ahold of people that want to be abusive over the issue.

  • Your interpretation of "when that which is perfect shall come" is interesting, but incorrect. The perfection that the Apostle alludes to is the Kingdom of Heaven, or eternity, not the bible. To my knowledge, I have never read any commentary that says otherwise. I have never read one that makes the claims that you are making. Can you provide one? Tongues is a sign to the unbeliever, and a sign that follows believers (Mark 16:17). PS. Why did you allow tornado12153 to post?

  • @aaa4all2000 Hello there. Somehow I missed the crude comments of tornado12153. Thanks, I have removed the them and blocked him. If you want to read some books on tongues which refute the practice then go to my website - Google "Christian Issues". My site is ChristianIssues Dot Biz. Go to the page called Today's Tongues. There are several authors there who refute tongues. God bless, Mick

  • 1 Corinthians 13:8

  • Probably one of the best explanations of this issue I have read. Years ago I had a similar discussion with "Spiritualists" who forgot that the "Love of God" is the greatest gift of all. You will of course get a lot of negative feedback for making a stance that the Holy Spirit is "a being" who no longer requires an outward display (speaking in tongues healing by laying on of hands etc) but we have the Holy Spirit as an everyday comforter to guide our daily lives and to help us bring praise to God

  • @Triumphcarnut Hello there. Thanks for your comments. As you noted, I get some negative feedback at times, to say the least. I have three more recent videos on tongues. The first is called Speaking In Tongues Part A. I start with a little graphics which make the explanation clearer. Merry Christmas and God bless, Mick

  • Nothing like receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues.

  • @odlebrook Hello again. There are quite a few books on my site and I think that they are all worth reading to get a firm understanding of the subject. However, I think that two of the best are All About Speaking In Tongues by Fernand LeGrand and a smaller one called Sola Scriptura. I have read them all several times and each one seemed to add a bit more understanding. As you say, there is nothing about tongues being used for spiritual warfare. God bless, Mick

  • @odlebrook Hello there. Yes, I agree that speaking in tongues was known languages. 1 Cor. 14:21-22 tell us that tongues was a sign ot the Jews. There are three cases in the Old Testament where tongues was a sign of Judgment. 1) At the tower of Babel 2) In Jer. 5:15 regarding the Babylonians and 3) In Isa. 28:11 regarding Assyria attacking the Jews. God used tongues as a sign to the Jews that they had rejected the Messiah and so Jerusalem was destroyed. God bless, Mick

  • WARNING!!!! You people who are minimizing what God promised to everyone should stop speaking against the Holy Ghost. If you hav never spoken in tongues as the spirit gives the utterance why criticize those that do. You will not receive the same biblical experience unless you hunger it and desire it anyway. If God poured it out on the day of Pentecost and on every one there why should you not want Him to pour it upon you.

  • @preachershaker Hello there. I am afraid that your reply is without scriptural basis. If you can refute the first two minutes of my video called Speaking In Tongues Part A (not this Part 1 video but Part A) then you will have my attention. Please consider this. God bless, Mick

  • 2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

  • Well, it looks like you added to the Word of God, by calling tongues, knowledge, and prophecy childish! For sure, such an idea is never spoken of in the Word! It is only read between the lines by one who wishes to have it so.

  • @daffodyllady Hello there. If you look at the Playlist on Speaking In Tongues, on my profile, and watch the videos Parts A, B and C then they will answer what you have asked. If you can show me error in the first couple of minutes of Part A then you will go a long way in showing me my error. God bless, Mick

  • @christianissues Your implication at :49 is not true doctrine, because it is abundantly clear that at the time 1 Cor 13 was written, the miraculous gifts were in operation, by the power of God. "Now abideth" faith, hope and love. All three were in operation at that time, along with the miraculous gifts. In eternity, as you say, there will be no need for faith and hope. Nor will there be a need for any other gift. But if they needed any gift in NT times, we need it now, too!

  • @daffodyllady Hello there. I sure agree that the gift were current when 1 Cor 13 was written. That is what I said in the video. However, because faith and hope cease when Jesus returns then the other tongues, prophecy and knowledge must cease before that time. |f not, then the words 'cease' and 'remain' are meaningless. God bless, Mick

  • @christianissues Your premise is that Tongues, Prophecy, and Knowledge must cease prior to a future time indicated by the verse that says that Faith, Hope and Love remain. However, you neglect to see that it says "NOW remaineth Faith Hope and Love." It does not say "THEN SHALL remain..." Therefore, it does not refer to a future time. It distinctly says NOW. To force a meaning in which NOW must mean THEN, is twisting the scriptures.

  • @daffodyllady Hello there. If you investigate the word 'now' you will find that it is not the now of time but the now of argument or logic. If you look at commentaries such as Vincent Word Studies and JFB they will explain it. It can in fact be seen as saying 'then' or 'the case being so'. God bless, Mick

  • @daffodyllady Forgot to say something. Verse 11 also makes it clear that tongues, prophecy and knowledge ceased in the early church. The word translated 'put away' is the same word used in v.8 which says that prophecy and knowledge will cease. In other words 'put away' = cease. God bless, Mick

  • @daffodyllady i would also like to say that prophecy, and Knowledge must cease... when will they cease? i hope not right now because frankly i need my knowledge however in heaven I'm sure i will know everything but for now i need to have the knowledge to keep on learning..

  • @kiekie84 Hello there. 1 Cor. 13 says that knowledge will cease. Can this be talking about personal knowledge? We would all have to become brain dead for that to occur so the knowledge that is to cease can't be our head knowledge. That only leaves the knowledge passed on to those who wrote the Bible. When the Bible was completed, knowledge from God ceased as what we need to know is written in the scriptures. Likewise, futuristic prophecy also ceased. God bless, Mick

  • @christianissues well it's too late... i have filled with the Spirit of God by the promise of God the Father and i will build up my most holy faith praying in the Holy Ghost! for i live a life of holiness but it is not me that produces the holiness in my life it is Christ and the Spirit working with Jesus with deep with groanings and stammering lips

  • but i think it might not do any good to tell you more.. for i am sorrowfully afraid you will not listen and i fear you will only be stiff necked with itching ears but still inside me wants to cry out on the roof tops "Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty" "Walk in the spirit and you will not fufill the lust of the flesh!" "For with stammering lips will He speak to His people!" "He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost!" "He shall give you another comforter!"

  • "The Spirit of truth shall guide you into all truth!" "When you receive power from on high you shall be His witness!" "The Holy Ghost will teach you all things!" "The Holy Ghost will edify you in Christ!" "The Holy Ghost is our promise From God and it is to you and your children and all that afar off as many as the Lord shall call!" "For the body without the Spirit is dead!" "Wow are you a man of unclean lips!" "purge your tongue in Spirit" "Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty"

  • @christianissues Your entire thesis rests upon the implication that you think you see in the word "remains." -That faith and hope cannot "remain", unless prophecy and tongues "depart." However, that stance also requires knowledge to "vanish away." At what point do you think knowledge will vanish away?

  • @5:05 you added the word and the concept of "simply." In 1Cor 12:4-6, there are "diversities of operations." For an overview of the operations of tongues, read 1 Cor 14: 2 (&14), 5 (&12-13), 22-25. The signs FOLLOW believers. Signs are only given to unbelievers, because they are needed only by unbelievers! Tongues are not a sign to believers. Rather, tongues serve believers in other ways, as 1 Cor 14:2-4 shows. It builds the spirit up in private prayer...

  • ... Tongues serves to build us up spiritually, because the spirit communicates with God's Spirit bypassing our natural mind. ( 1 Cor 14:14) Prophecy is God's spirit communicating with our spirit, bypassing the natural mind, putting the words directly into the mouth. Tongues can be used by God to do this, through the gift of interpretation. That is why, in 1 Cor 14:5, tongues PLUS interpretation EQUALS the value of prophecy!

  • If I prophesy, I do not expect it to be on an equal par with Scripture, as God never contradicts Himself. I always judge any word of prophecy against Scripture. Just as you do with what you think you have been made knowledgeable about, by the Spirit of God. Therefore, the gift of prophecy today is not adding to the Word of God any more than your preaching is.

  • I do not understand why you say that tongues, prophecy and knowledge will cease BEFORE Jesus returns. I cannot find that. All I see is that yes, they WILL cease at some time, and from the context, it seems like it is to be "when that which is perfect is come." so... they don't cease until Jesus returns!

  • Let scripture interpret itself..On 1Cor13:1...Theres NO exampl of "tongue of angels" n bible but we know whenever angels spoke n bible its ALWAYS in tongue of person they were talking to,NEVER gibberish. In Pauls day average man spoke 2 to3 tongues=Hebrew, Greek, Latin, however Angels of God speak ALL languages of the earth, SO Paul has "tongue of men & angels" = God gave "HIM" a GIFT to speak all languages of earth 1 Cor14:18. Not 1 false tong tlkr been to heaven=dont know wht lang is there

  • Great video.

  • TONGUES IS FOR TODAY! FAST, PRAY AND SEEK GOD THEN ASK FOR IT.

IT IS THE DEED OF HIS PURCHASE OF ALL OF US WHO BELIEVE. IT IS THE SEAL OF THE HOLY GHOST THAT ENSURE THAT YOU ARE HIS. BE AWARE THE THIEF CAME TO STEAL KILL AND DESTROY AND HE COMES AS ANGEL OF LIGTH. AND HE IS SMOOTH! THATS HOW ONE PRAY IN THEIR MOST HOLY FAITH BY PRAYING IN THE HOLY GHOST. GOD IS NOT A RESPECTOR OF PERSONS. HE IS THE SAME TODAY YESTERDAY AND FOREVER. IT IS NOT ENDED.

  • 1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for NO MAN understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries!

  • @Prophets4Christ The answer is given in 1 Cor. 14:28. Tongues is a mystery unless someone interpreted the foreign language. No man understands a language he doesn't speak, it is all a mystery to him. The verse says that if there was no interpreter then the speaker should keep it between himself and God. Without an interpreter it is a meaningless mystery - the mind is unfruitful without understanding. God bless, Mick

  • @christianissues God Created tongues and Jesus talked about them. Jesus said Himself in Mark 16:17 "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will drive out

demons; they will speak in new tongues;" Tongues is not some made up spiritual gift, its God's idea. He was the first one to speak about this spiritual blessing.

    God Bless

  • @Prophets4Christ Yes, Jesus did say that people would speak in tongues and Acts shows us that His prophecy was fulfilled. About 20 years after Jesus spoke about tongues, Paul wrote 1 Cor. and said that tongues would cease. Tongues was just a sign of judgment (as it was three times in the Old Testament) and judgment came on the Jews in 70AD. Tongues ceased in the first century. God bless, Mick

  • @christianissues

Nothing in the New Testament scriptures restricts or confines speaking with tongues to being only a first century exercise. Only strained, laborious interpretive

schemes can impose such a notion onto the text of scripture. The idea of "passé" or "outdated" or "early church only" cannot be found in God's word."

I believe the gift is for many today but their should be a balance when using this gift. (1 Cor 14:39)

  • @Prophets4Christ With respect, it is never a strain to study God's Word. God bless, Mick

  • 1 Cor ch 1 says that the Jews require a SIGN, therefore tongues are a SIGN to the unbeliever. the term Heavenly or Godly ''tongues'' does not exist in the bible. in Rev 5 a scripture says to every tribe, nation and TONGUE, the same Greek word GLOSSA meaning simply language.

  • @lunabranwen Amen mate! 1 Cor. 14 stressed the need for interpretation (when tongues was a gift). God bless, Mick

  • @christianissues What does 1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for NO MAN UNDERSTANDETH him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries" mean?

  • @Prophets4Christ Foremost please understand term "unknown" is in italics = slanted font= added

by kjv translators= Paul didnt use it. So in 1 Cor 14:2 knowing there is only 1 type of tongues = other

KNOWN languages of the WORLD....if GOD DECIDES to give a man the GIFT to speak in GERMAN, its a

permenant gift. BUT if he goes to his English-only speaking church, bgins to pray in Spirit n GERMAN

the English people wont understand the prayer ONLY GOD will = don't use GIFT unless interprtr.

  • Jesus promised the spirit to all believers, this is why it is called the councilor and comforter. charismatics are so mixed up and confused they think if you dont speak this sort of jiber jaber that they wrongly call ''tongues'' that you may not even be saved. the word tongues in the old Greek text means LANGUAGE of a people or nation. look it up. they miss the reason why Paul mentions the 28th ch of Isaiah. Jesus said that their will be false signs and lying wonders.

  • @lunabranwen Amen. Also, the gift of tongues was merely a sign of judgment against the Jews. In the OT, tongues was a sign of judgment at Babel (Gen 11), in Isaiah 28:11-13 and Jeremiah 5:15-17. In the New Testament tongues was a sign against Israel for rejecting Jesus and that judgment came when Jerusalem was destroyed in 70AD. God bless, Mick

  • Paul was talking about the gifts of tongues. Do all heal, do all prophesy, do all speak? They run just to, do all speak without understanding what Paul is really asking. The tongues that comes when one is filled with the Holy Ghost, and gift of tongues in Corin, is two different administrations. Acts shows the birth of the church, and Corinthians shows how to act in the church when u receive the gift of tongues which everybody don't have the gift. Holy Ghost comes with tongues for everybody.

  • @rossdaboss1959 Hello there. All throughout the Bible there is only one Greek word that is translated as tongues so there are not two or three different types of tongues. The gift of tongues was simply as a sign of judgment to the Jews as it says in 1 Cor 14. The Old Testament shows three places where tongues was a sign of judgment. They were at Babel (Gen 11), in Isaiah 28:11-3 and in Jeremiah 5:15-17 and in the New Testament tongues was also a sign. God bless, Mick

  • @christianissues Ok whatever u say. I won't argue with anybody. One day soon it will all be explained. If one is satisfied with what they believe, then so be it. I'm not trying to change anybody's mind by force. It's not my job to. I just know what i experience and know for myself i was filled with his spirit. It's real. I'm not saying i'm better than anybody that hasn't experienced it. I just wish everybody did receive it, it's real. I just say God bless you and i hope we all make it in.

  • Many are running to Corinthians without understand what Paul's letter to them was all about. It was the CHURCH that he was writing to. They were already saved according to Acts 2:38. The Speaking in tongues was and is so exciting , that they were all speaking at the same time in services. There was no order and Paul was thinking about others that might come in that don't understand., like on Pentecost. So he set up an order for speaking in the church. He never condemned it. Corin 14:39

  • There are diverse tongues for the edification of the body of the Messiah. Not everyone does this and only the Spirit will choose the speaker and the interpreter. This is the Father talking to us.

Then there is speaking in a unknown tongue. This is a believers prayer language for the edification of the believers spirit. Check 1 Corth 14:2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Verse 4 says he who speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself. This is for everyone.

  • @tshack4889 Amen Amen that's it!

  • Jesus said in the book of Mathew that he will leave the spirit with ALL believers. this is a promise from the Lord, every saved person has the spirit, people get confused with receiving the spirit in our lives at the point of conversion/salvation and the BAPTISM of the holy spirit.

  • so then 1 Cor 14:5 is saying that one who speaks in a tongue has the ability to explain what he is saying, ask anyone what they said after they spoke in ''tongues'' and they will say WHAT!! when it states that men will not understand him it state no where that the SPEAKER himself will not understand. the word tongues in Greek is GLOSSA meaning LANGUAGE of a human source. Jesus said that there will be false signs and lying wonders. Paul said that in the last days many will be deceived.

  • the word perfect means complete. no where in the bible does it teach that people will or have spoken in so called tongues of angels, though I could speak in the tongues of angels. the Greek word found in this verse is IF!! IF I could speak in tongues of angels, IF I gave my body as a burnt offering IF I could move a mountain it would mean nothing without love. 1 Cor 14:5 (KJV) greater is he that prophesies than the one who speaks in a tongue, unless HE(the speaker) interprets what he is saying.

  • @lunabranwen Have u ever received the Holy Ghost yet?

  • That which is PERFECT--- is referring to SECOND coming of Jesus...not the putting together the books of the Bible. The apostles were told to wait on a COMFORTER which would remain with them... the HOLY SPIRIT and He is to remain until CHRIST'S SECOND COMING. This is a VERY frequent misunderstanding.

  • Tongues IS for today.....Many seem to have outrageous reactions to receiving it---and many misuse it! BUT the gift IS still for today!

  • @Rainy64 Hello there. Just saying something doesn't make it true. Can you scripturally refute the first two minutes of the video? I you can then you will go a long way in convincing me that tongues is still a gift. God bless, Mick

  • biblical tongues were not the jiberish we hear today. but were real languages, as what happened at the day of pentecost.

  • @lunabranwen Amen mate, I sure agree. What we see today is not from the Holy Spirit. God bless, Mick

  • @christianissues also do you speak every language on the planeth ow do you no if there speakng a different language or not i have translated the person in tongues in a diff language but because i new the languge but to you it may have sounded like jibberish

  • @lunabranwen some time we speak tongues who understands the tongues angels

  • The Holy Ghost is what Jesus promised us. It's his spirit living on the inside. Why would people say they love him, but refuse and fight against being filled with his spirit? Romans 8th chapter tells why we need it. All the energy people take to refute the Holy Ghost, they can put it towards receiving it. 1Corinthians 12:13. 12:30, he's saying do all have the gift of tongues, healing, etc, No! chapter 14. 14:39, FORBID NOT TO SPEAK WITH TONGUES. Just Obey Acts 2:38 Still God's plan of salvation.

  • So many people are getting the two books mixed up, Acts and Corinthians. Please understand that Paul wrote to the church, the church at Corinth. They were already filled and baptized. Acts tells u how to be born again whether u are a Jew, Gentile or a Samaritan. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. Corinthians tells u how to act after u received the Holy Ghost. If people would just receive it before they knot it, they will understand it.

  • @DeeRuss3 My friend, I focus on scripture but you reply with emotion and personal experience. Am I too believe your experience or the Word of God? Some catholics pray to Mary in tongues and sing the Mass in tongues. Is this further proof that the gift is still around? God help us if it is. I will happily listen to a scriptural refutation. In fact there are times when I wish I was wrong but I refuse to run on emotion and hide what I believe.

  • Telling a believer who has been saved and has the witness of eternal life within him that there is no such thing as salvation is the same as telling a believer who has been filled with the Holy Spirit and prayer in other tongues that there is no such thing as tongue today. Your logic is in great error on this subject my brother. Please examine this subject more closely

  • @AMATTEROFTRUTH OK Shawn, I guess we can leave it at that. God bless, Mick

  • @AMATTEROFTRUTH Sorry but I got you mixed up with another person. I wouldn't tell someone with the witness of the Spirit that they don't have salvation but I would tell someone who speaks in tongues that it is not from the Spirit. God bless, Mick

  • I'm glad that you have taken time to read the word and let it speak to your heart. That is biblical. However somethings are real wether you believe them or not. The Bible is the truth and cannot be added to or taken away, or dismissed. May God bless you. We need to focus on the lost not the silly squables Religion has given us.

  • Lastly, if you are trying to tell anyone who does believe in tongues that it isn't for today, they most likely won't change their mind.

The only ones you'll be able to influence will be those that either don't know where they stand, or those that already agree with you.

  • @daughterandlover. We know the Bible cannot be added to so the prophecy and knowledge that make up the Bible have ceased as 1 Cor. 13:10 says. Ordinary knowledge and prophecy which expounds scripture is still with us of course. Not many change their mind about tongues but I know a few. Those who speak out strongest against tongues are often exPentecostals. God bless,

    Mick

  • @christianissues that is exactly what I was trying to say. Thanks.

  • by the way... most people who believe that prophecy is for today, do NOT believe it to be ADDING to the Bible. Prophecy is merely revelation of God's word. Revelation meaning: Something revealed, especially a dramatic disclosure of something not previously known or realized. Also, those who believe knowledge has not ceased believe that the gift of knowledge is a supernatural one, meaning it is given by God and it is the gift of knowing truth or facts, without hearing from anyone but the Lord.

  • So, you're saying that tongues does not exist today. It has ceased... Prophecy does not exist today. It has ceased... and Knowledge does not exist today. It has ceased.

  • I Cor 14;27 says that no more than 3 people were to speak in tongues at one time, and each of those in turn.. and someone had to interpret. Do tongue-speakers actually do it in an orderly manner like that?

  • Tongues was just a sign to the Jews, nothing more. To say it is anything else is to read something into the text. But even if today's tongues speakers had the real gift they ignore God's guidelines as set down in 1 Cor. 14 and all gabble away at the same time.

  • more importantly : what does tongues do for us? it is the spirit of god praying for us what his will is so our prayer life is fruitful. so pray in the spirit without stopping: to prove it is for today = the devil try's to copy gods ways: yes there are false teachers on tongues you cannot teach it :and it does not control you but it is subject to us: so those nutty people are liars as well never tthe less, tongues are here until we see the perfect one face to face : amen

  • argument well put but a big lie: that which is perfect is jesus 2nd return and not the finished bible; i understand your argument but it is all your understanding: when paul spoke in tongues his natural mind was unfruitful; he also had the finished word and didnt need any more: if that which is perfect is gods word he shoul never need his tongue, but it isnt:i have no religion to argue for but the truth: tongues is as paul taught even for today until we see that which is perfect face to face.

  • Well we are FORCED to go with what the bible teaches if were gonna be honest. I use to uphold this 2ed work of grace teaching for a long time. I finally put away child like thinking and seen the bible does not teach this at all! There is not a Single verse that says Literally we do this By the Holy Spirit. In fact it states people that do this is being controlled by "there spirit" not Thee Holy Spirit. I ask anyone to look in the context of 1Cor.14 and see WHAT spirt is it in Cor.14

  • look at the words "My spirit", and you will see the context is NOT the Holy Spirit at all in 1Cor.14. the statement "Speak unto God" is not a Literal statement at all, but a hypothetical one (the context proves it). I feel bad for preachers teaching this to people, they will answer to God for it, unless they repent of this satanic teaching. The 2ed work of Grace theory does not fit in the Text at all! This teaching that came from Parham is ERRANT 100%

  • The bible is a teaching tool how will we help child molestors, murderers, rapists, gang members, abortionist, racist, gay/lesbian, by teaching religious laws. God has a plan for all His people and that's something many Christians don't get. The bible says it is better to prophesy than speak in tongues. The bible also says they know who I am because your fruits. We reject God's word for man's emotional fallicies!!!

  • Ignorance is the human mind when it comes to spiritual gifts from God. Speaking in tongues out loud at church isn't biblical. They spoke in languages understood not this jibber jabber emotional nonsense. As humans we try to create what we think is right in God's word without truly understanding the Holy spirit. During that time in history people spoke many different languages and the pentecost is the day when all Jesus's work came into one room and let out their praises in their own languages.

  • It is unbelievable that anti-tongues people still around.I thought they had cease after they were defeated long ago?

  • Comment removed

  • ILoveJesus11011 wrote: There is no need of tongues, knowledge, or prophecy when we are in heaven.

Actually, there will no need of ANY of the gifts when we are resurrected.

  • 1 Corinthians 12:30 - "Do all speak with tongues?"

  • It is there for the asking. But could one of the reasons Paul asked the question, "Do all speak with tongues" be that so many don't ask?

  • I enjoyed watching your video. So much confusion regarding tongues and prophecy today. Some just want that little bit extra that they feel sets them apart from the rest and sounds like a whole lot of pride to me.

  • so you admit that having this gift is a "little bit extra?"

What truly amazes me is that people who do not have the gift nor do they want it, tries to dictate how we should use it or try to tell us it's not of God.

Go to the source Abby, God. Ask Him, not these negative-putting-God-in-a-box people who don't have pulpit except for youtube.

God is your answer, not these videos.

    God bless!

  • Hey there, that's just where I went, the Word of God, so are you putting God in a box, one that you have fashioned for yourself and it is the god of your imaginations that fits into it? What are you talking about, "people who don't have pulpit except for youtube", unnecessary comment, how would you know? The babble that most people speak and say is from God isn't a gift, it's a desire to set themselves apart from other Christians, to be more special that the next person, pride comes to mind.

  • How can you say that what God gave as gifts to the church "isn't a gift, it's a desire to set themselves apart from other Christians, to be more special that the next person, pride comes to mind."

If you could show me in the Bible, scripture that says when we receive these gifts they cause us to put God in a box and fashion one for ourselves & our imagination AND where only those who have these gifts have pride while you do not. I'd sure appreciate reading those. Thank you very much.

  • You want these sign gifts now, they are no longer needed but you want them so what does God do? He lets you all who desire this, babble away unintelligibly, foolishly like babies never seeking the real meat of The Word.

1Co 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

Can't argue with that! Although something tells me you're going to want to anyway. :)

  • Sure, love won't cease and that is why it is called the greatest of all, in 1 Cor 13:11. If faith and hope continue into heaven, will we have great faith or weak faith there? A strong hope or a weak one? And what will we be hoping for? In heaven, 1 Cor 15:28 tells us that God will be 'all in all' and I am sure that we will be lacking nothing ... not hoping for greater faith etc. We will be utterly complete in Him ... wanting, needing and wishing for nothing.

  • I appreciate what you say but, as the video says, the Bible defines faith and hope for us and they are both dependant on seeing Jesus. We can't make our own definitions. Note Rom 8:24 and 1 Pet 1:9. Also, it is patently obvious that we will not need tongues in heaven so there is no reason for God to state it. He speaks about cessation of tongues, prophecy and knowledge because they were to cease at some time prior to seeing Jesus - that is, with the coming of His Perfect Word.

  • christianissues,

there are some illogical statement of your claims. First, Jesus was seen face to face as in the form of man before tongues were given. Hence, the cease of tongues in 1 Cor 13:12 is not referring to seeing Jesus the man face to face but Jesus the God face to face in heaven. 1 Cor 13:8-12 is not talking about the Bible. If you say it is the Bible, then prove so without assumptions. Perfection of our lives perhaps? Do you have full knowledge of God even if you have the full Bible?

  • christianissues,

I would like to direct to this book called 'Surprised by the Power of the Spirit' by Jack Deere and he'll show you from the Bible that cessation theory is not from the Bible at all but mere experience and twist the words in the Bible to support it. It is an argument from silence. 1 Cor 13:8-12 did not mention what is the perfection referring to, Cessationists said it is the Bible based on assumption. Bible did not mention Jesus sleeps, we can't conclude that Jesus never sleeps.

  • If you look at my video Speaking In Tongues Part 3 you will see that tongues was just a sign to the Jews when the church was first starting up. The gift ceased in the 1st century. Anyone who received the gift back then would have been greatly edified to have been used by God in such a miraculous way.

  • 1 Cor 13.8 doesnt tell us when tongues will cease; I submit that they will cease when Jesus returns because Paul wrote just a couple of verses later (which you conveniently left out) in 1 Cor 14.1- 2 to 1. pursue love, yet DESIRE EARNESTLY spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2. For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men BUT UNTO GOD; When Christ returns, we will have no need for prophecy, tongues or knowledge! Until then, those 3 gifts you declared dead are NOT!

  • Tongues was just a sign to the Jews as shown in my Part 3 video. If tongues, prophecy and knowledge remain until Jesus returns then the word cease has no meaning. Because faith and hope remain until Jesus returns then tongues prophecy and knowledge must cease before that time or the words cease and remain have no meaning. Also, I agree, tongues was speaking to God ... so why do modern tongues speak to men in so called prophecy and words of knowledge etc? We can't prophecy TO God.

  • Tongues is a sign to the UNbeliever and not just to Jewish unbelievers. Prophecy is for the believer, so we don't prophecy TO God! The Ho;y Spirit speaks what He hears from Jesus, just as Jesus spoke what He heard from the Father. It seems that your logic has to lump all 3 gifts together in order to get rid of tongues but remember that prophecy and tongues are two different gifts. Also, In all the Scriptures, does any support WHEN knowledge, prophecy and tongues shall cease and fail?

  • This is exactly what I always tell to the liberal Christians who are into the Charismatic movement. You explained it much better. There were a few points I didn't catch when I read the scripture on my own.

  • great teaching
