Mr Wombat, you are kidding! What 'facts' exist to prove 'QRL influence'. The fact that Qld won State of Origin for all but two years in the 80's and Wally was in most opinions the reason for their superiority surely dispels your conspiracy theory. And I think you'll find even Mal Meninga played as a second rower in the 3rd Ashes test in '86...hardly sounds like a compromise with NSW. The pack in that test was Linder, Niebling, Meninga, Dowling, Simmons and Dunn...(i.e. 4 Qlders!!!).

It's worse for Bert when you look at Kangaroo stats. Also, in the period Kenny and Lewis played, Qld won 7 series to 2. OWNED? You made up your stats. Why?

@MrWombat21 No my stats are real facts, go check . Kenny ousted Lewis from 5/8 on the '82 Kangaroo tour and it was only through QRL influence that Lewis was re-instated back to 5/8. Kenny's move to centre was to accomodate a place for Lewis in the Test team. In saying that, it was better to have both Lewis and Kenny in the team.

@nasals Matey, the numbers are statistical facts and appear on any origin site you care to view. Lewis replaced Kenny because Lewis wads the superior all-round player. I don't dispute Bert being the stronger athlete, but Lewis's leadership, mental strength, kicking game and size meant that he was always going to be considered ahead of Bert. Kenny would rank well behind Lockyer nowadays, and perhaps equal with Laurie Daley as a 5/8.

@MrWombat21 that's correct out of 12 starts against QLD at 5/8 NSW won 8, when Kenny was moved to centre they did not win a game. Kenny was the prototype player for Daley, Fittler and Lockyer and he was also the best. I don't dispute Lewis's place in the history of rugby league , he did so much for State of Origin but he did not dominate Brett Kenny and that's one thing that people shouldn't forget.

@MrWombat21 yes mate, in 1986 Brett Kenny was the best player in the world and for Lewis to retain his position as 5/8 the entire forward pack of the Test team comprised the NSW forward pack in exchange for Kenny being moved to centre. It was only interstate politics that cost Bert the 5/8 spot. This was common knowledge back then but has once again been glossed over and the revisonists have gotten their way.
