  • all those new B-17g have fake weapons or you can realy bomb someone?

  • wow, great footage. B-17's are so rare. Theres one in my area in Ypsilati,MI.

  • the engines change colour from land to air

  • at 5:49, what am I looking at? What was its purpose?

  • @charlestonchewy part of the bomb controls next to the bombsight in the nose turret.

  • The B-17. The best American light bomber....well it was light bomber compared to a Lancaster

  • nice b-17. I was inside one the other day, at palm springs air museum in california. It was really cramped in there!

  • @Reconseal4050 no, they aren't nukes. just the shell of the the type of bombs that were used when the aircraft was used in service.

  • @alekzander2010 technically a nuclear device dose not need to be a "2 ton fat metal object" a nuclear device just needs to have a small amount of enriched uranium, hydrogen or cobalt...... all elements used in different nuclear weapons, which is then surrounded by tnt (trinitrotoluene) or some other explosive device, which when detonated in sequence puts immense pressure on the radio active element. and the element already being fairly unstable implodes, releasing all of its energy.....

  • open bay bomb an drooped yhea i love this plane

  • cantbelive they crashed it...

  • merci a l'auteur super promenade.

  • my great grandfather is a veteran of WW II he was in navy and got his finger shot of on D-day i think but he ia alive still and 89 yrs old

  • i want to do it too

  • ARe those real NUKES on board??? at 5:00

  • @Reconseal4050 are you dumb?

  • @Reconseal4050 they arent NUKES! a Nuke doesnt even FIT in a B17 a nuke is a Big Fat 2 ton metal object with all the mechanisms inside

  • The decal pic at 0:20 should be RATED R damn!!!!

  • I like this music!

  • Great music!!! Brings alittle flavor to the flying and it makes you go back to that era of flying the B-17. I'm sure those pilots needed all the music they could get during the war especially flying in a war!!! It kept the nerves down......

  • THIS IS THE ONE THAT CRASHED!!!!!!

  • The wreckage of the liberty belle is only about a mile from my house. i have many pictures of the remains and will be posting them soon. there is actually many still usable parts from the remains. the engines and props and tail gunner posistion and much more are in a secured location which i was fortunate enough to see and photograph. Most of the fuselage is gone but the nose is still there along with the wings and landing gears, along with a remarkably good condition tail section and rudder

  • If I had the ability to own & fly a B-17 or any WWII Bomber-Fighter I'd never wear anything less than a A-1 /A-2 jacket & crusher cap while flying. Shirts & Polo's just don't cut it while operating such a classic.

  • Are those kids lucky!

  • @sikesy7 I believe in the old radial engines, when the engine was stopped, oil would leak past the the piston rings into the bottom cylinders and fill the cylinders up unless the exhaust valve just happened to be in the open position when the engine was stopped. By turning the prop over several times this would empty any trapped oil that would act like a hydrolic stop and could also damage engine components. This is why you'll see a big cloud of smoke after start up sometimes.

  • Hurray!!!!

At long last a video without music.....apart from the appropriate use of Glenn Miller of course!

  • Hurray!!!!

At long last a video without music. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • RIP Libery Belle

  • is there a reason why there spinning the propellers

  • Anyone ever think about putting Halon fire control systems in these, original equipment or not? #2 killed this plane. It had been giving trouble and I bet the mechanic(s) feel like shit.

  • Lovely video, the most aesthetically pleasing plane ever made, I think. Perfect balance, a real pilot's plane. I was so sad to hear of her destruction. I wish media wouldn't describe it as a crash landing -- she had an engine fire and the pilots made a successful emergency landing in a corn field. If the fire trucks could have gotten to her, she wouldn't have been destroyed. RIP, Liberty Belle, and thank you all the men who served on the Flying Forts.

  • RIP Liberty Belle

  • I sure am glad this video exists now that the "Liberty Belle" does not. What a terrible loss for America. Thank God all 7 souls spared. R.I.P. EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!!

  • What is your problem Foxtrotuniform23? Lets set you on fire and let you burn you piece of crap! Show some respect for the plane that help secure the freedom retateded dumbfucks like you have. Sad to see this beautifull plane go down, we only have 13 left now that are still flying

  • dumb fucking fire department let it burn. dumb ass pilots didnt put it down next to a road. nobody I assume bothered to try to extinguish it. it had too much fuel in it. La La La La La

  • Rest in peace you beautifull four engined bird.. you shall be remeberd

  • Very nice vid ! What a great memory! It is very very sad she is gone! R.I.P. , Liberty Belle!

  • It's heartwrenching to know that the 1st and only B-17 I got to ride is GONE! Makes me want to cry

  • RIP, LIBERTY BELLE. IT IS SO SAD TO SEE ANOTHER OF THESE GREAT PLANES DESTROYED. I AM SO PISSED THAT SO MANY OF THESE WERE SCRAPPED...BY FAR THE COOLEST AIRPLANE EVER MADE. BOTH OF MY GRANDPAS FLEW IN 17'S. ONE A BOMBADIER IN THE 8TH AF, ONE A TAIL GUNNER IN THE 15TH AF.

  • R.I.P Liberty Belle

  • RIP old girl, you did your part gettin your boys back home. You will be missed but the men you brought home and those you served so honorably to protect at home thank you....

  • she will be missed!

  • @fsC130J this is so sad :(

  • RIP

  • Folks, *this plane is NOT the original Liberty Belle B17. It was named after her. This plane *never saw combat and was sold for scrap in 1947 and then to Pratt and Whitney some years later for $2700.00 (that's right, $2700). Although, still a great tribute to history and a great loss.

  • Bloody wonderful video. More so, now that this plane is no more.

  • I just learned this beautiful plane has flown her last flight, but the 7 passengers managed to land and escape before she was lost.

  • Libery Bell no more - I saw it in New Mexico, just outside of Albuquerque.

  • This B-17 is gone now...crashed this morning. I saw it just yesterday at aurora municipal.

  • Imagine 009 sounsystem raping this vid. I cant do it!

  • Great video. Spoiled somewhat by music.

  • you guys think how awsome to ride in a b-17 but i rode in that one, not to long ago my parents surprised me. god i loved it i got to sit right behind the pilots

  • Ain't that just about the most beautiful thing you ever seen??? Goddam what an airplane!!!!!

  • why not have the glenn millar music at the beginning? when youre airborne, id rather listen to the engines....otherwise, youve done a great job.

  • What a fantastic video!!! Thanks.

  • I've seen the B-17 flying fortress "Aluminum Overcast".

  • Great video.... I believe this is the Fotress flying over my town right now (Bremerton) as it does this time each year. As for the music, I think it's fantastic, this is the music our fly boys were listening to after each of their missions.

  • Actually this Flying Fortress never saw combat. Out of the dozen or so Fortresses still flying I believe only 1 has seen combat and that is a B-17F. The one in France may have seen combat, a G model but unsure of the history. I also got to fly aboard the Belle a few weeks ago and it was incredible! The folks at the Liberty Belle Foundation are amazing and very accommodating. Only 3 fortresses offer the public an opportunity to fly the public. Hats off to the Liberty Belle Foundation!

  • The taste of the freedom we have here in France is due to people like you, that faced their fear and fighted for us

A huge thank you from Normandie, you are not forgotten,be sure!!

  • Very cool video what a lovley old bird, you skipped the throttle up at takeoff though put it back in!

    And the shutdown post landing!

Don't really care for the sounds they made do u? Put the good bits back in go on!

  • Very cool video what a lovley old bird, you skipped the throttle up at takeoff though put it back in!

  • is the gun turret accessible from top?

  • I want one

  • i went to the pima air museum in Tucson AZ and saw their B-17 on display. you can look in it as they have it open for display now. man those guys had balls of steel to fly in them back in the day.

  • I would have liked to have seen them drop those bombs and shoot those machine guns.

  • what a beatifull flying museum, keep her flying

  • I OBSERVED THIS B-17 FLYING OVER THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY ON TUESDAY (3/22/11)! THERE IS NO CURRENT PLANE THAT MAKES THAT UNIQUE SOUND FROM FOUR WRIGHT-CYCLONE ENGINES (935 HP EACH?). WHAT A SITE! TODAY (3/25/11) THEY ARE OFFERING RIDES AT BOB HOPE (BURBANK, CA.) AIRPORT. THIS SUPPORTS THE PLANE'S ABILITY TO FLY, RATHER THAN BE A STATIC DISPLAY IN A MUSEUM.

  • Participating in the Collings Foundation's WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR, the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress "Nine O Nine" WWII Heavy Bomber, Consolidated B-24 Liberator "Witchcraft" WWII Heavy Bomber and P-51 Mustang, will fly into Shreveport Downtown Airport in Shreveport, LA for a visit from March 9 to March 11.

This is where I got to fly in a B-17. You can buy a 30 min flight for $425.

  • Fantastic ! You sort of get to feel what it was like for those young guys who flew them back in WW 2. I read a lot about the 100th bomb group based at Thorpe Abbotts, Norfolk, UK 1943-45.

  • woah!!! my gosh self defense machine guns at every angel!!!!!

  • Fascinating video. I felt like a member of the crew back in the 1940s. The views, sounds, and music combined for an enjoyable flight. Those were heavy duty planes back then. Many barely made it home after being shot up and in some cases almost sliced in half by flak or enemy aircraft. The crews on these bombers deserve our highest respect.

  • 4:27 LOL a golf club, what a great place for target practice!

  • one thing I would LOVE to see is a person putting blank rounds in all the turrets and firing the machine guns around to scare people! XD

  • This is a great video! I got to fly in a B-17 a few years ago during a air show in Shreveport,LA. The trip from Shreveport back to Texarkana is one that I will always remember.

  • @bingen1801 you lucky prick! i wanna fly in a b-17 so bad but i have no idea where to go to do it! i especially wanna ride in the ball turret in the back :D

  • Wow what great footage, thanks for uploading. Just two things. I have to agree with the folks who said that we don't need the music, and second couldn't you have dropped a few bombs, you know, just for fun, see if they still worked.

  • I had the opportunity to fly in the Liberty Belle in the summer of 08 with my dad. It is something that will always stay with both us. I hope enough war birds are still around in 20 years so i can share those memories with my son.

  • The maker's plate states "B17P". I thought that they only went up to "G"? Why are the waist gunners sealed in? Is this a post war modification? And why are they hand turning the props?

  • @Strawberry7Lynn I will have to watch the vid again to see the b-17p ..however, there were plexiglass slide windows added to the waist guners ports to sheild them from the slipstream I forget the time of this addition but it was still in combat during this change. before that they werealways open.

  • The maker's plate states "B17P". I thought that they only went up to "G"? Why are the waist gunners sealed in? Is this a post war modification? And why are they hand turning the props?

  • Lol wow was that amazing to fly in there.

  • Excellent video. Despite the music may not have been blaring in the planes during bombing runs over Berlin and German Industrial centers, The music added a nice "touch" to connect your flight somewhat with the WW2 Era. This was quite a unique video and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm also glad to see you didn't use any live ammo on the NYS Thruway and Crossgates Mall! :0) (no... I live near Syracuse, but originally from the Hudson valley)...

  • Awesome thanks for sharing,, lol i guess im one of the few that liked it with the music, takes you back in time. glad you have both versions though, i think ill go to your channel and see it again without music, but i like it this way too.

  • 1 german dislike it

  • @NEMERITEANDSHUNI Hahaha, True. Nice reply ;P

  • Awesome one the best on You Tube!

  • ich vrom germany ,ich bin begeistert ,wunderfull,USA THE BEST PIPLE ;THE BEST ;MILITEREY;WUNDERFULL.

  • yay we got it started! *put put put* o noes we ran out o gas...

  • Thanks for the ride. At the Boeing Family day they were offering rides for $400 per 1/2 hour. I can only imagine what it must have been like for all those members of the 8th Air Force. Not many know it, but more people lost their lives in the 8th Air Force than did US Marines in all the South Pacific, not that their great heroism was any small gesture either. And Glenn Miller was GREAT !

  • get some ammo and maybe some bombs and then have fun

  • This Boeing is absolutely wonderful...like many other planes from WW2...They are the most beautiful planes that humans created...

But this video needs no music to hear the motors sounds!!!

  • @meshuggah30 If you go to my channel I have re-rendered my B-17 video in HD and with the engine sounds (no music).

  • Was it really necessary to have Glen Miller playing? I am sure that wasn't part of the normal routine. Keep it natural.

  • The music is good and appropriate for the era that this plane was built.

  • My grandpa flew 30 missions in the US 8th AAF. Most were in the B-17, but some where in the B-24 and B-25. He was the lead navigator of his squadron.

  • This is a good video but no music.

  • @BigBoyO56 If you go to my channel I have re-rendered my B-17 video in HD and with the engine sounds (no music).

  • @BigBoyO56 better with non!

  • I HATE the music! Let's just ehar the engines!

  • @farfo5019 If you go to my channel I have re-rendered my B-17 video in HD and with the engine sounds (no music).

  • FANTASTIC VID !!! Thanx for posting !!! Usually I dislike vids with music, but here Glenn Miller's music fits perfectly and is not too loud ! Let's remember that Glenn Miller died in a plane crash during WWII. A huge loss for jazz and music !

  • My father Piloted this aircraft in WW2 with the 463rd BG,772nd BS.

Beautiful video and wonderful shots BTW.

A question do the turbo-superchargers still function on this particular aircraft?

Do you know or have any idea? Thanks anyways.

I was told that the ones on the Collings Foundation 909 were not functional when I last saw it at my local airport.

  • @m9078jk3 Is your dad still living? Your dad is a HERO! The father of a friend/neighbor of mine was a ball turret gunner (lower) with the 303rd BG. His last mission was on the plane labeled "S for Sugar. It was shot down during a bombing raid (Jan 11 1944) of the FW-190 assembly plants located in Oscherschlaben Germany. The plane crashed Braunlage, Germany. He was captured (still alive today) and spent the rest of the war in the Stalag 17-B prison camp until the end of the War.

  • @jdenicol No,my father passed away in 2004.Mom is still alive though (she was an actual Rosie the riviter, riviting the dorsel fins on B-17's and B-29's in a Boeing subcontractor plant). That must be very tough to have been a POW.I'm glad that your neighbor ball turret gunner combat veteran friend is still alive.

Dad went through all of his combat missions (tours) without even a scratch. He was a very lucky guy.

  • why do they turn the props before starting them?

  • Hey....drop a bomb on Obamas head...

  • My son just got to see this plane is person in Moultrie, Georgia. I am so jealous of him. I have always wanted to see a B-17 in person up close.

  • Oh my god you guys are so fucking lucky. Thanks for this.

  • Ooops, sorry, I saw the one without music now!

    Great vid, thanks!!

  • Why the music?!?!?!

  • @MrMetalManiac Maybe because the aircraft was from the 40,s and so is the music?

  • I love American patrol and it worked great being insync with the beginning of this video. I'm going up in the Liberty Belle on Sept 25 out here in ABQ.

  • fukkin stewpit musak

  • @deeryker If you go to my channel I have re-rendered my B-17 video in HD and with the engine sounds (no music).

  • @surfsupusa Don't you hate trolls that don't know how to spell!? :) I like the vid either way!

  • Wow, an actual flying B-17!

  • Thankyou for a great vid!

  • that was simply amazing.....Just amazing.

  • GREAT VIDEO ! Saw this plane in Buffalo NY in Aug. 2010.

Really gave you a feel of how things were during the war.

And a SALUTE to all the airmen who fought, and lost their lives while on combat missions.

  • The plane that brought Japan to its knees.

    Love this plane.

  • I'd sell my kidney for a flight on such plane!

  • im flying on this plane aug 1st. im really looking forward to it

  • I'll add my voice and say, ALL music is bad when it comes to aircraft - the plane's music is all we need to hear.

  • @antimatterXXXIII I have another video posted without the music (just the engine sounds). Please check it out.....

  • God i love that plane, would loved to have flown in ww2, well ww3 is on the horrizon, i can fly a b-17 with 8 engines then!

  • One of the coolest videos I have ever watched! I love aviation history, and this is one of the best I have seen. Thanks

  • Wow that looks awesome. I would have hated to be axis fighter pilot and try to engage that in to battle, because all of those machineguns pointing everywhere. =)

  • That was absolutely FABULOUS! Thanks. And I loved the music backdrop.

  • did they remake this... it looks more sexy than the orginal and the LADY pictures...looks hot with those boobs

  • could have left the music out

  • I had the privilege of flying in this beautiful piece of history yesterday. It was an awesome experience, a day I will always remember. Hats of to those who keep her where she belongs, in the air! Great video thanks for posting........

  • what a amazing plane

  • hah that's really neat, gives a real sense of that it was like in there, I like the shot of the rail yard, could have been over germany for all we know!- Cheers for that!

  • great!

  • Great video, thanks for sharing!

  • Wonderful machine! These old piston powered warbirds have a soul.

  • Not another video with music!? WHY? We want to hear the plane!

  • @05LMBC6 If you go to my channel I have re-rendered my B-17 video in HD and with the engine sounds (no music).

  • Beautifull, my mom remember seing them over Paris in the 40's...

  • One of the most beautiful machines ever built. I hope future American generations never forget the guys who flew and died in these for our freedom.

  • 2:20 the sound of TRUE manliness!

  • My son bought me a ride on this ship in 2008.

    I'll never forget it...

  • i hope to fly or have one one day one of my favorite aircrafts of all time

  • beautiful!! it made me cry

  • Priceless! By the way, great music.

  • I'd donate body parts for a ride like that. Alot of family history for me.

  • I just re-rendered my B-17 video in HD and with the engine sounds (no music).

  • I want to feel like I'm aboard that plane not a trip down musical lane...I want to hear those big Pratts

  • Familiar request. I will surrender and re-render in HD and without the music.

  • This plane is powered by four 1,200-horsepower Wright Cyclone Model R-1820-97 engines.

  • ive been inside that exact plane it is so big. not kidding

  • WOW !!

  • Like new, how much does he coast 1 milion dolar?

  • The warbirds are here in Monroe. A person just took a trip in a B-25. Kelly perhaps. I spent some time on the Battleship Alabama. That music, those big bands? I was an Infrantry Officer with the 101st in VN. My dead friend was a Nav in a B-17 over Gernany in WWII. I would never have such courage.

  • Almost all W.W. II warbird videos have music, but I prefer to HEAR the plane and not the music. However, I'm glad that you posted the video.

  • Thank you to all the men who flew these bombers against the Nazis of WW2. Your service and sacrifice is truly appreciated.

  • Comment removed

  • WHY do people think we need MUSIC!?!? I want to hear the plane!!!!

  • Möbelwagen im Anflug

    88 mm Batterie Feuer frei.

  • I flew in this today! Was really exciting. Great Bomber.

  • You must have been at CPK then cause I saw it there when I went flying in my Cessna
