I'm reading about the industrial revolution in my social studies class...I never knew the children worked the only thing they metioned where some women between 16-30 and under that worked for a guy with the last name a lowell .Aperantly they where called the lowell girls and lived in harsh conditions.
CHILDREN as young as 5 were often killed and mamed by the machinery they worked with, the greedy factory owners that lived in great luxury at the time thought nothing of this. The industrial revolutio was won by the exploitation of the workers.Nothing else that anyone says will change my mind on this.True the money and the building were provided by business men,but who got the profits?certainly not the workers SLAVERY PURE AND SIMPLE
in my country, the term "industrial revolution" refers to the massive production and the social structure change in the middle of 18th century. the pictures looked they're ones of 19th or 20th.
"The industrial revolution stripped away many of the functions from the traditional family. Education went to the schools, care of the elderly went to the state, work was tranfrerred to the factory, and so forth...The family did not disappear after the industrial revolution. But if became smaller, took on more limited responsibilty, and lost much of its power vis-a-vis other institutions in society." -- Alvin Toffler
Having found this site its brilliant, wish my school days were this interesting, setting powerpoints with music makes it so much more poignant..very emotional..my son is hooked on henry the viii because of school project..set to herman and the hermites....
Wrong, wrong, wrong. I have had this debate hundreds of times so if I get around to it I'll make a video response to this video. May suggest reading Ayn Rand's "Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal" Or similar works by Robert Hessen. The part of Capitalism that addresses these claims is entitles "The Effects of the Industrial Revolution on Women and Children." I doubt any of you will read it but it may give you some perspective.
Contrary to popular belief, the British Empire was NOT founded on the slave-trade.
It was infact founded on the hard work of the working class (most people) of Britain, the children included, whose daily toils go largly historically unrewarded to this day.
download realplayer and then download the vid. Stick it on a mem stick & bring it into the class. Download realplayer on your school computer, and then ya can watch it. I am in the same position, and that's how we get around it. works really well, and the files are surprisingly small that way too.
