Steve is a good choice. But I don't think anybody will ever be as good as Don was in this part. I don't think Steve can be as dim-witted as Don was.

All they had to do was consult brooks, he offered his help and they wouldn't do it. That's why they're currently working on script #5 or 6. I love the TV show and this movie is going to be on par with a remake like bewitched. It's got nothing to do with carell either, he'd be fine it's the writing. He doesn't even have a shoe phone anymore! BOOOOO

Most of the "new" characters are o.k. - especially "99" but the most important one , Max, sucks. There again, I don't know if anyone can replace Don Adams. Especially the voice. I think we need to discuss this in "The Cone of Silence".

The voice is the hardest and most important part to nail. It's like James Bond - to me there was only one 007 - Sean Connery.

One phrase from the series that became very popular was "Sorry about that, chief", spoken whenever Maxwell Smart screwed up, which of course was often.

The sitcom series was a spoof of cold war spy movies like the James Bond series. Another more serious TV series was "The Man from UNCLE" starring Robert Vaughan. The best of them all though was "The Prisoner" starring Patrick McGoohan. All of them dated from the mid sixties.
