Also background music for the YouTube clip "We Got That B-Roll".
Badder Than Evil was a studio group; Chuck Rainey (Sanford & Son TV theme) on bass, Bernard "Pretty" Purdie (Aretha, James Brown) on drums, among other serious musicians. Arranged by veteran R&B conductor Horace Ott.
Notice how it was partially 'inspired' by War's "City, Country, City".
Six degrees disclaimer: my dad was the engineer for most of this album, except for New Birth "Dream Some Paradise", and Barbara Mason's song.
No it wasn't a porno it was a classic film directed by Ossie Davis and starring the voice of City Confidential Paul Winfield. He comes back from vietnam to the hood to find his girlfriend and all of his friends on drugs so he decides to clean up his neighborhood by force
Also, it's too bad the musicians who played on this album aren't credited. To me, it sounds like Bernard Purdie is the drummer, and Wilbur Bad Bascomb plays bass on most, if not all, of the cuts.
This is such a cool track, I heard it first, then decided to check out the film. Then I got really mad because in the film, the track is long!! It must be over 6 minutes and it has alternate instrumentation (i.e. it's not just a looped version of this 3 minute mix). That's why I hate OSTs for blaxploitation flicks. They have great music, but they're sometimes different mixes or performances from the film version or they're short edits of what you see on film.
HELL YEAH! For real funk lovers, I recommend buying that LP, it's worth every cent guys. Playing that black disc everyday....
