this musical needs some reworking, it was a good idea that made an unfortunate end. Also the people who did fame should not do Carrie, it just doesn't make sense that way. That's probably why it flopped
This musical could have been amazing. The Margaret and Carrie scenes were very powerful (or at least, they seem to be, from the videos I've seen). It had a couple songs that were perfect. "Eve was Weak" is actually terrifying and just perfect, and I quite like "Carrie" as well. The performers were all very talented and the storyline is great. I almost wish that they would rewrite a couple songs, do some new choreography and give Carrie another try. It had the potential to be a hit.
just encase someone is wondering what the lyrics are, ''All Right Wotta Night Don'tCha Feel The Sky Turning Oh Child Drive Me Wild Don'tCha Feel The Stars Burning. All Right Wotta Night Can't You Hear My Heart Tickin' , Hola Yo Mama, I'm Alive And I'm Kickin' Tonight'' 2X .... Wotta Night
@helencheddar they removed this song and replaced it with a variation called "A Night We'll Never Forget", they took out "Out for Blood" and replaced it with "I believe in getting even" and they heavily edited "In" and added boy harmonies.
if it was out today on broadway i think it would make alot more money and do very well, it was 1988 when this first came out , people where into romeo/juliet to much :)
Yeah, Broadway needs less flashy shows (In the Heights, Leaglly Blonde, Xanadu) and more shows that will become legacies (Evita, Gypsy, Les Mis) It can't survive on revivals alone.
I deffinatly agree. I'm a huge fan of original shows. Like Passing Strange and In the Heights. Unfourtanaly, Broadway is currently running on revivals and movie adaptions. When I go see a show I wanna see something fresh and new. Not somthing that I saw in the movie theatre a few years ago. AGG.
I'm cool with some of the revivals (biggest Patti LuPone fan over here! lskdjlskdjf)
I don't think you got what I was saying. I was saying that these new shows that you're an apparent fan of aren't like the shows of yesteryear, that people sang the tunes to. There aren't showtunes anymore, just modern and edgy musicals. And not everyone is the biggest fan of those. I haven't seen a really fantastic musical since Rent, almost 12 years ago.
Ahh, that makes more sense. I deffinatly can see what you're saying about the "edgy musicals" and I agree. Although I am a fan of some of the new shows, I also really enjoy the clasics. Showtunes are definately not the same anymore. However you have to admit, RENT is not the "typical musical" either, although it is amazing. Its that show the spawned all of the "edgy" shows.
PS-Did you get to see the origingl RENT cast? that would have been amazing!
I didn't see it 12 years ago xD I wasn't that old back then. But it was created 12 years ago, when musicals were still kinda good.
I'll agree with you, RENT was edgy for it's time. But, it was the only "modern, hip, fresh" musical on Broadway at that time. Now you can't stop without seeing one of them.
I think some musicals have passed their run, and need to close. I love me some Phantom (how I wish I could've seen Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford) but it's been 20 freaking years.
We need something that will become an instant classic on Broadway. If it keeps going downhill, it'll get sooooooooooo overrated. And I do not want that to happen.
Broadway needs another Evita, or a show that people will honestly pay to see, not just search it up on youtube.
"I haven't seen a really fantastic musical since Rent, almost 12 years ago." You gotta check out 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Grey Gardens, Ragtime, Avenue Q and In The Heights. They're all fantastic. I couldn't imagine how the hell someone would make Grey Gardens into a musical, but they did and it was perfection.
I've actually seen Grey Gardens! And looking back on it now, RENT wasn't nearly as amazing as I thought. I've seen Company, Grey Gardens, and the recent revival of Gypsy, all of which I thought were superior to RENT.
this is actually a really great dance number... but also one of the only times i agree with the critics. If you see the rehearsal footage for this number it's amazing! But those costumes are awful. Whats more, the set shrinks the stage & u cant really see anything beyond whats goin on in the front, & theres a lot of great shit happening in the back! & the people that filmed this didnt capture this number at it's best... one of my fav songs in the show! BTW-these r 80s dance moves. the best kind.
