People do care. Many just don't know about the perils of overconsumption or are a bit hypnotized by consumption advertising and culture. Just educate them about the problems over-consumption is causing. For example: The shots of people scouring mountains of trash in this video is very compelling.

Wouldn't make more sense to buy some toys and hyigene items on "Buy Nothing Day" and donate these to local shelters instead? Put up solarpanels on your house, drive the bicycle or buy a energy efficient car to buy less fuel. Things like this. Buying nothing will just end up creating wast unemployement if people don't barter more.

Actually, eating a plant is less wasteful than eating a turkey because less energy is lost to body heat from the turkeys. In other words,you eat less if you eat plants but you don't want to eat less, that's the problem with us I guess.
