I never really got into Alfie Boe, but I got this DVD for Xmas, and he blew me away. Then I bought his album. He's phenomenal! Colm, JOJ and Simon are all amazing too.
It's great to see Simon Bowman again. I got the impression he was very arrogant at the time he was leading in Miss Saigon but he now appears stately, looks incredibly like Antony Quayle did.
Sorry to swear, but Alfie? That's just taking the effing piss....loved this song for 25 years and massively revered Colm and many others, but Alfie just blows them all out of the water with his version. How lucky can someone be to have a voice like that? Oh and be a bloody nice bloke....wish I could stop the tears streaming down my face. No male singer has left me in tears, ever!
@jamiecarl92 Hey hey hey now... being a Bass/Baritone isn't all that bad. We get to play roles like Javert, Marius, Papageno (from The Magic Flute), and lots of other awesome characters!
@0419387 yeah i was marius in our production, but theres something about being a tenor and hitting those high notes. have you seen alfie boe sing nessun dorma in matt lucas's house? it was just awesome.
I just love watching Michael Balls face light up in the left of the screen at 0:29 when Alfie Boe starts singing. That massive smile just gets me every time.
omg, this song still makes me want to cry:'] How old is Colm now?? He's still got it! ;P That other Jean Valjean though....*whistles* dammnnn. He's got a helluva voice! I still have the VHS copy of the 10 year anniversary concert (at least I think it was the 10 year?...) at home and I'm thinking I'll have to get this one too:P
Alfie Boe is fantastic! And Colm Wilkinson - so wonderful to hear him again! Stunning all round - absolutely breathtaking performances from all involved. I'll be getting this DVD as soon as it comes out!! Hopefully in the future we'll see Killian Donnelly doing Valjean - saw him as Enjolras in London recently and really sorry to miss him as Valjean and Javert earlier in the year, but then it's one hell of a long way to travel from Australia. He's brilliant!! Hope to return soon for more!
@Monkeyballmania I doubt it... my previous comment may not be accurate. The cameras were rolling at both performances, so for all we know they used some footage from the matinee in the final product.
At the matinee, after the four men finished this song, Alfie got down on his knees, bowing towards Colm. It was clearly an acknowledgement to Colm's place in the history of the show, but it was also a funny moment as well.
@LukeyBoy36 In 1985 I was 17 when I saw this in the original production at the Barbican in London....it has made me cry for 25 years! Crying is a great way to know that you're in touch with your emotions....I wish you a great musical life.
It doesn't matter how many times I see this, I still cry. I would have been a blubbering fool if I had actually been there. Just over a week until the recording hits the theatres in the US!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw this live in the cinema, such an incredible experience, even though I wasn't actually at the O2. I could feel myself tearing up, this always gives me shivers and goosebumps XD AMAZING!
I was there as well, breathtaking indeed. So very much looking forward to the DVD, but I will get to relive the experience on November 17 at the movie theater.

John Owen-Jones = Is acting despite it not being the usual setting and the fact he's singing with epic awsomeness (he is amazing)
Simon Bowman = Was it my imagination or was he struggling a bit?
Alfie Boe = does the entire show then sings like that! WOW
