though i'd have liked a series two. I'm content with this ending! what could they have continued..?first series was so full of drama already. I think it ended well, although i am sad for dadda. he loved his lady friend and deserved to be happy. i thought the kids were a bit selfish. it was alright for iris to bugger off and get married after like 3 dates, and it was ok for Ruby to join some free thinking womens cult. but poor lonely drunken depressed dadda gets a lady, and no one stands for it!

I hate that they never continue the good series on tv... i mean this show was excellent. Yet they didnt commission a 2nd season. No they'll give those to idiotic shows that have no point to them other than to listen to people bicker at each other, get drunk... sing horribly... and all the other crap tv shows out there... TV Angers me royally!

This is was good series!!!! I wanted Richard to have dumped his wife and start a life with May and the child. Now I wish that they made a second series so that Iris would be with the priest, Ruby goes with the butcher. Although in some weird way it was a good thing that there wasn't a second series or Stephen Moyer wouldn't have been vampire Bill....Either way thank you so much for posting this, I loved watching this series

Hey Janine thank you so much for putting this series on youtube. It has made my weekend in bed with a cold much more enjoyable!! What a great series, pity they didn't make a second.

For those of you that are looking for something else to watch now, some good ones are; Lark Rise to Candleford, Cranford, Jam and Jerusalem, Downton Abbey, Berkely Square, Fingersmith, North & South etc. Enjoy!

The BBC was inundated with calls and emails to bring this show back, but canned it because not enough 'younger' viewers watched it. Who gives a rats arse?! If a show has high ratings, keep it!!

I'd like to think that Father Melia came back for Iris, and that frank and May made a go of it together. Frank wa such a nice lad :-)

Yes... it's quite brilliant. The ABC put it on in the off season, the non-ratings period. It deserved well better than that.

Ugh! I wish someone would realize how good this series is/was, and that it deserves to have a worthwhile conclusion. I'm thinking a four-part miniseries, or, heck, I'd even take a 2-hour feature film. I just NEED a real ending!

Too bad it got canceled though. Oh, how I wish that Iris and Father Melia would get together, they loved each other with pure heart! ... And I wish May would marry Frank. Don't know how Billy would find happiness. So it seems like Ruby is the only one who's got a simple love story going on for her!

I love the family as a whole but May really shouldn't have dragged out the drama with both sides - leave the hopes of the childless couple alone, and don't mess with the lives of her family members and poor Frank! Gosh, it's too much, I couldn't enjoy the last two parts, esp. with Father Melia going away to escape his feelings for Iris!!!

Thank GOD they didn't have Fr Melia leave the priesthood. That would have been so trite, & so contrary to what real love is. It's like wanting someone to destroy his whole identity and the meaning of happiness in his life, just so you can have him. No one who has a priest for a relative or friend-who truly loves someone who is a priest-could want him to ruin his life for a woman. It's a terrible thing when a priest loses God to gain sex. The 'world' doesn't understand that.

Did you know Ahoystella that priests were only made celibate through an edict in the middle ages so that they couldnt marry and the church would inherit their land and money. Im offended by 'losing God to gain sex'- 1 No reason to lose God, God is with him forever 2- It wasnt about sex or lust but about love. I would be happy for ANY of my relatives to find love and happiness just as I know God would be. Love is a basic tenent of any faith. Love should be treasured. Cellibacy doesnt = holy.

3. Father Melia should return from Ireland, having left the priessthood, and marry Iris.

4.I wish I could think of a happy ending for Bily, but since homosexuality was illegal for another 40 years the outlook isn't fantastic.

5.Dadda should find someone to grow old with now he'll have lost all his daughters!

6. Saldy, the only outlook I see for baby Victor is following his uncle and dying in WWII :(
