The Institute of Latin American Studies, from where this article is found, is actually part of the Stockholm University. The Stockholm Review is a peer reviewed journal, meaning the author can't simply write nonsense. It has to be proper research. Pat's timing can be seen both ways : terrible but yet appropriate.

It's not gospel because a group educated people agreed on on a theory. All this is, is a theory not fact. The only thing they may be able to prove is whether a group of Haitians made a pact. It means it is going to be reviewed and challenged by other scholars if you do have any backing research material. In that article, it quoted the material of Haiti's own famous writer and historian, Dantes Bellegarde and its ex-president Jean Bertrand Aristide's dissertation..that the Voodoo ceremony was performed before the revolution.

And which Devil/Satan was that exactly? The one to whom the French who enslaved them for 300 + years worshiped, or the Gods of their ancestors to whom they probably turned for inspiration and courage? Which Devil did they really pray to if indeed they made such a pact?

The Devil they supposedly prayed to was the Christian Devil..that is Satan.
Jean Jacques Dessalines, the Haitian leader of the revolution, was said to have struck a deal with the Devil. In exchange for the victory, Satan was to be given control of the country for 200 years.
That being said as the revolution was completed in 1804 the period of the pact should have expired by now.

Where did Pat Robertson get his info on this? He said the "Dominican Republic" is prosperous...and Christian. He failed to note that WITCHCRAFT (voodoo / santeria / bruheria ) is practiced in the Dominican Republic also. He may be sincere in his comment, but sincerely wrong. There are people into "devil" worship all over - including the USA and Rome.

Heb.10:26-27 for if we sin willfully after we have recieved the knowlege of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgement, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. We are talking about christians who continue in willfull deliberate sin, sin against better light. Most churches dont tell you this because thay want to make sure your feeling good (your hopes are up). when they pass the bucket around 3 or 4 times.

Many people, myself included, do not know, The Almighty God, as well as we should. But, yes, it is a fact that He does judge His people. He will prosper them when they walk in His ways(which are known through a relationship with Him and knowlege of His Word 'The Bible"). Or bring calamity upon them through sickness, disease, disaster, bondage to other countries, and even death, when they walk away. We cant fix the problem if we are looking in the wrong place,yes, it may well be spiritual.

It is a well known fact to every Missionary that has lived and worked in Haiti that in 1804 and again in 2004 when Haiti renued their contract they put in writting and "gave" their nation to the voodoo gods.
I have flown down the border between the countrys; Haiti on one side, bleak, barren Parched. And the D R right up to the border, plush, green, alive, prosperous. Figure it? It is fact.
Almighty God loves the Haitian people but can't bless Haiti.

Agree with that. You could say the true "devils" is the western world. Even America has been sooo generous to lend the Haitians a high rate loan to help them pay off their debt to France. It took until 1947 for them to finally repay it. The Duvaliers a despotic family took on high interest loans to fund their rich lifestyles...thereby putting Haiti back into debt.
The western world has refused to forgive Haiti that debt.

It's obvious that black crime rates are not caused by Socio Economic status but rather genetic realities. Whites from destitiute environments do not commit nearly the amount of violent crime that blacks do. Black behavior in the U.S. mirrors that of Haiti or Sub-Saharan Africa. I think Pat is blaming the DEVIL. I could be wrong but I'm trying to be fair and objective here. Christians believe the Devil's missions is to steal, murder and destroy, as that is taught by their Bible. If this is true, I think he means that what happened in Haiti fits into the Devil's intentional schemes.
But I agree, the leftists need to stop being opportunistic in criticizing the right; instead, they should be more involved in providing for relief efforts in Haiti.

you have misunderstood him. He didn't say the earthquake was caused by their pact with the devil. He said they have remained in poverty and not had the infrastructure in place because of the problems they have had due to their pact with the devil. that is why this earthquake has been such a catastrophe. not the devil
