This angle has not aged well at all. If Vince had chosen his words more carefully it would have come across better. But when he says that the fans care about Austin and then Austin stunning McMahon it just makes Austin look like a prick.

I think the Attitude Era began with the return of Bret Hart to Madison Square Garden in 1996. Since the Austin/Bret feud, the WWF just went on a whirlwind of kick butt programming that probably ended with Kane unmasking in 2003. Maybe.

@crumpton4 Austin seemed to be a pretty competent wrestler and I was surprised by some of the stuff he did in his earlier days. He had to limit himself a lot after his neck injury in 1997. I haven't watched WWE in forever, and I wonder how much Rey Mysterio has to limit himself these days.
