Doing recaps of parts of 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy pretty much destroys the purpose for this story.  I suppose the trilogy itself was such a big success that filming 'The Hobbit' should've just been an option.

Me too. I don't like the "pseudo-Hobbit" trailers, though I absolutely LOVE LotR and everything related...

Unfortunately, there IS no "real" trailer... The shooting hasn't started yet, and it's not ready to...

We'll just have to wait and pray that it'll be as good as the LotR trilogy (hard challenge !)

Is anyone else concerned about del toro? I mean the guy is a great director and its good that he wants to make it his movie, BUT he seems to want to make alot of changes in designs to wargs and goblins and he wants all the animals to talk still. I mean smaug and the trolls are fine but are the spiders and eagles necessary? Its just sounds like its going to be hard believing this to be in continuity with jackson's films. I hope im wrong though.

I read what he has planned for the Hobbit and I think its great. The hobbit shouldn't be dark like lotr because it's a different kind of story; definately more personal and character oriented then lotr. He said he's going to gradually assimilate the design in the second movie to Jackson's vision. Besides, whose to say there isn't more then one type of warg? XD

Ive never heard of there being different types of wargs. Lately i have lightened up to the idea of animals speaking and a different tone because it is respecting Tolkiens work more but I still don't like how he wants to redesign everything. I mean why change the goblins? They looked great in LOTR. And btw they scrapped the bridge movie idea and now they are having the hobbit story span over two movies instead.
