@hoooot4 overdrive pedals (Tube Screamer, etc.) employ what’s called a “soft-clipping” circuit or transistor where only a small portion of the input signal is clipped. Most distortion pedals employ a “hard-clipping” device to severely clip the input signal to get that “square wave” tone.
@hoooot4 hey man @1971SuperLead is spot on from a tech point of view. But basically dude, Distortion and Overdrive (and fuzz) are the same thing, 'cept Distortion is generally high Gain and saturated (think heavy metal like Metalica etc) and overdrive is a bit more dynamic and softer and mimics the tone you would get from an overdriven tube amp, just at lower volumes. So you dont have to crank your 100w marshall to the 'sweet spot' and go deaf. I prefer to crank my amp tho (40w) and use an OD :)
Bottom line is this: gearmandude puts out the best demo's along with Andy @ PGS. Before I purchase new gear, MR. Gearmandude is there to guide me thru the process of selecting the perfect sound. Pay attention to the type of riffs and tonality he use's. He show's you more than the effect itself, he shows you the character of the item! Awesome player and musician!! Thanks...
@metklok i dont think jack black would mind being seen..i mean he is a holly wood actor who has been on national tv several times and is known around the world...plus he isnt nearl as good at guitar as this guy...they are probably both from the same part of the country and so they sound similar. both are funny guys though :]

What are the pro's and con's about this pedal?
How does it compare to something like the Ibanez TS or tbe Xotic BB preamp.
I want something to push the front end of my Marshall Haze amp on the overdrive channel.
I know Zakk Wylde used this pedal in the early days with Ozzy to drive the front of his JCM 800s. Any suggestions? Thanks.
PIlotrcm 8 months ago
@PIlotrcm if you have a lot of distortion in your signal, this adds sustain and clarity a lot more.

@PIlotrcm The MXR Wylde overdrive is great!!!

is this pedal good to get a nice crunchy led zepplin lead tone through a marshall MG combo and EMG's?
burgershot29 1 year ago
MG + EMG ≠ anything Jimi Page and never could or will.

if he wasn't Jack Black, he'd probably show his face in his videos. I can understand if it's Jack Black and he doesn't want people to know.

hardchord666 3 years ago
metal zone, or metal core, i think metal core is the heaviest one
metalicaman100 2 years ago 4
@metalicaman100 yes you are right, metal core is the heviest distorsion ever made by Boss.
jriverband 1 year ago
for metal, metal core, mega distortion and metal zone.
for classic rock, you have the buss overdrive's and the big muff (not frim boss)
