@sc12100 Yea, I agree as well. But, I'd still love to have a guitar that looks as good as it sounds. And the Gibson guitars hit dead on with the style, beauty, and sound. Love them, but the price, not so much at all. I can't afford my dream guitar. *sobs* :'/
Great playing! Coming from and acoustic guitar lover ( ME) I think that Gibson's are the most over rated and over priced guitars on the market. Ive played Taylors and Martins that play more friendly and sound better than the Gibsons Ive picked up and tried. I'll say this though, maybe it was just the ones I was playing.
@sc12100 Nobody is going to dispute that generally Taylors and Martins ARE the better acoustic guitars, but Gibson electrics (SGs, Les Pauls, ES-335, etc.) are the standard by which every other "set neck" electric is judged - just as Fender Strats and Teles are the standard for bolt-neck guitars. There are a few great Gibson acoustics though - and a few dogs from Martin and Taylor. The J-200 is one of the greats from Gibson if you find the right years.
@moucon I agree fully that Gibson and Fender are top dogs with electrics. I just think that their acoustic are ridiculously over priced. They need to focus more on sound and playability because it seems they focus more on the cosmetics of their acoustics.
@vintageoneguitars Hi... been trying to date my J2oo for years (I'm sure your aware of the Gibson SN issues... can't even make mine out for sure...lol)... best guess is /64 though. Does this one have (or have evidence of having) a brace in front of the sound hole, with a damper swivel pad that threads up to the top... I assume to stop pickup feedback? If not, any info you may have on it (re dating it) would be appreciated. Nice sound on this one btw! Thanks - Mike G

Would you rate this guitar as one of the best you've played? Sounds great!
ceswert 1 year ago
It is the best sounding J200 we've played with an adjustable bridge. We've been tempted to replace it but need to preserve its originality.
