  • frame mode looks better

  • i love the footage here,

im getting my first video camera son which will be the xl1, i can't wait!!!

  • wats the difference between movie mode and frame mode

  • The lighting is really good, what was your set up?

  • it was really that I meant

  • really good! Did you record in 24? I thought the picture was a little too smooth, but I really liked the way how you made it so "film-look"!

  • XL 1 has not an option to record at 24p. I recorded at 25p

  • really awesome :)

    5 stars

i have a XM2 myself but i'm upgrading to a HD Cam later this year :)

  • WHAT settings are "movie mode"?

    and

    WHAT settings are "frame Mode"?

  • this is exactly the kind of look i want to create for my films!! my xl1 is arriving tommorow :>

  • Wonderful video! I'm dying to know who the artist is playing in the background!

  • check out the previous comments. It's Ulver

  • cool :D

btw, i like the music... what is it??

  • do you think i should buy a Canon XL1 or a HV40

  • It depends on what are you going to film

  • you make me happy. i wish i had this camera, i want like, more than anything else!

    thank you. this is Beautiful!

  • You're welcome :) Next christmas I will make another one like this

  • how did you get it to look like this? did you use any lenses or ad ons? please tell me if you did. and tellme were i can find them.

  • everything done by original XL-1 kit. Check out earlier comments ;)

  • brilliant, this is encouraging. thanks, from Brazil

  • what did you do in after effects to make this look so good

  • In After Effects - nothing. Only thing that I did was litle color correction and aspect ratio correction with sony vegas. The look depends on your camera lens, and composition lighting, angles e.t.c.

  • so how did you convert your vid. to 24p did you use AE, if so can you tell how you did it this open to anyone

  • what r u saying!

i have a xl1 and it doesnt have 24fps mode. Just the xl2.

  • crazy shit

    nice!!

  • great picture. good work. Keep doin what u doin and let us know when u take new shots :)

    LissProductions

  • Just to correct you, the Canon XL1 & XL1s cameras shoot fake 30p in Frame Movie Mode on the NTSC models and fake 25p on the Pal models. The XL1/XL1s can NOT shoot native 24fps, its big brother the XL2 can though

  • Anyway, I think that 25p on frame mode looks quite well. I use after effects to transform my videos into 24p. (this one is 25p) Thanks for the useful info :)

  • Hey, how do u get 24p on the XL1 and what were ur exact settings?

  • I recorded this at 4:3 aspect ratio.

Well XL1 takes shots in 24p if you change your rec mode from MOVIE to FRAME in MENU screen :)

  • col I'll check it out. I've had this camera for a couple of years and have yet to tap into it's special manual qualities. Thanks BE. cool style!!!!

  • Thanks for the video response! Great work.

  • Please tell me exactly how you rendered this in Vegas. i need to know this looks amazing!!!!

  • First thing that i did was aspect correction. I corrected resolution with pan/crop to 720x304.

Then I added some magic bullet filters. (Sharp, Punchy and another one (forgot) )

I rendered it as uncompressed AVI, then converted to MPEG2, 3000kbps, 24fps and uploaded.

It looks like movie because it is shot in 24p movie mode. No handy cam can do it. And I spent some time to figure out best lighting and angles :)

    Music: Ulver - Vigil

  • What converter should i use? and thankz

  • I used Xilisoft MPEG encoder, but you can use any converter you want

  • is leaving it at avi good? or convertering it to MPEG2 will make it better?

  • Conversion is just for faster upload. If I would live in US, I would not convert it to MPEG.

  • o, so AVI. is better? by a lot?

  • AVI is better, but in YouTube you see no difference. So it is better to convert it to High Quality MPEG video and then upload it! It saves about 2hrs upload time :)

  • does youtube show 16:9 widescreen?

  • o wait it does you did it, how? once i convert it wasnt widescreen anymoer

  • This video is NOT 16:9. It's 14:9. I think your conversion settings were wrong if that happened. Try to change pixel aspect ratio or something

  • oh i see the 16:9 option in my converter, ill upload the widescreen on youtube.

  • Oh...My...God, this is amazing very good job! 5/5 really bravo!!! this looks like a fucking movie!! and by the way whats the music? please reply.

  • That was awesome.

But I think it would be even better if you went "HD"?

    Dont you think?

Or is there a reason you didnt?

  • This camera model is old. There were no HD back then :)

  • Awesome!!! Nothing more to say than that.

  • Yeah I guess so...

But you can still upload to youtube in HD?

    (use 1280 x 720 )

The quality will proberly be [even] better :)

  • Thanks, man! I couldn't figure out how to upload clips in HD :D

    By the way...

you can download this video at High Quality...link is in the description :)

  • No problem...

You have to fiddle around with Vegas I guess to get the best quality... But if you render at hd quality 1280 x 720 and so on, and then upload it should be fine)

    Happy tweaking & Merry Xmas ^^ (=

  • Oh no!! my computer sucks so it lags when i watch videos in HD lol plus this looks really good keep it like this.
