Word Of Advice DO NOT buy from the Carphone Warehouse. Since buying a laptop from them they used my personal infromation to send me a phone which I did not order I returned the phone over 2 months ago and have still not gotten my money back which was taken without my permission, everytime I phone I either get hung up on or I am told they will call me back with a resolution I am still waiting....

I never once forced the insurance on a customer. I was worried about what would happen if their phone was lost/stolen without insurance and told them I was worried for them, but it was entirely up to the customer whether they wanted this or not.

i would never buy a phone with them, ever. They only seem interested in getting people on big contracts, and don't care about those that cant (e.g under 18etc). This really pisses me off as i work for carphone and we told all of our customers \about this mistake in writing before their 14 day cancellation period was up of our mistake! Well we certainly did in my store anyway!
For the 14 day policy, all i know is from the start I was told no 14 day return at all unless failed credit check, or faulty- but faulty you have 28 days anyway. Personally I think you should get 14 days, a demo will not tell you everything about a phone.
Can you explain why, 3 days after launch CPW decided to change their 14 day "cooling off" period so that customers who decide to evaluate the iPhone by activating it (it is useless and unusable unless you do not activate it) are no longer covered by the 14 day policy?
With Apple and O2 you can activate and use for 14 days, not so for CPW.
Given that the CPW has already been fined I find it really difficult to swallow that you were misinformed about the lost/replacement procedure. Overlooking something like that it tantamount to gross misconduct. Someone needs to take responsibility for the error.
Apple partner or not Apple tend not to release final, "gold seal" info about their products right and until the last minute.
Sounds like an excuse to me! Perhaps even an "engineered" error.
I am a manager at a Carphone Warehouse store and at managers conference in October we was told by our directors the only way to get a new iphone is to get a new contract So all the managers filtered the information to its staff. the day after the launch Carphone Wareouse did say that this is not the case and customers just need to buy the phone Even though this was communicated to the stores either the message has not gone through or some staff is a bit too commission hungry

I think its just the staff is not trained or maybe they were not sure about the process on how to make a claim on the iPhone.
The customer consultant did misadvise but you could have spoken to a manager and clarify the things.
