At the time the iPhone went on sale, it was only available through Carphone Warehouse on contract - not PAYG and not Sim Free, so what the guys were saying is true. If you wanted to get an iPhone from Carphone Warehouse you'd have to get it on contract.

I can understand why they said that. If Carphone did not sell the phones on their own, then it would be possible to obtain another handset through them by signing another contract. I guess they assumed the customers would not want to buy from Apple directly.

there not supposed to open the phone once you've bought it init? it happened to my friend once when she's was gettin a new phone with her mum and the free voucher and sim card was missing when they looked inside it. she returned it but no money back still! after she watched this it made her think twice & avoid the shop forever!

the problem with carphone warehouse is that it spends no time teaching its staff about product information. The managers are overloaded with redtape jobs of no importance and that loss of time for store managers affects the time spent teaching employees. Still, this company will not be beaten for value and product knowledge. I for one will always stick with Carphone...

well, we dont earn commition no more! and i can see people were obviously mis sold... but these people are money orientated!!

if you go central, you wont get this, as we are trained on a daily basis and we do not earn commition :O) i should know.

Carphone are not all that bad... haha honest! ive been awarded for my customer service and knowledge :O)

I think its just the staff is not trained or maybe they were not sure about the process on how to make a claim on the iPhone.

The customer consultant did misadvise but you could have spoken to a manager and clarify the things.

You can't get it pay as you go so if you wanted i new one you would have to get a new contract. Also they even admit the insurance was good. Shocking thing is i heard from a colleague that in one store they said you had to take the insurance or you couldn't buy the phone.

god forbid your should ask to change an exisitng contract to an iphone contract. You can open a new contract but you still have to pay for existing contract even though you are not using it. License to print money jumps to mind. corruption. Def not customer care. Needless to say, will sit out exisiting contract and then leave. Another lost customer not the way to go in this economic climate. No contract is permanent. You can get out of your marriage easier than a CPW contract. wrong ???

And if you still think that's ok because you might still have warranty ... your are bound for a loooong nightmare.

My advise: buy your next mobile from your NETWORK OPERATOR directly.

Word Of Advice DO NOT buy from the Carphone Warehouse. Since buying a laptop from them they used my personal infromation to send me a phone which I did not order I returned the phone over 2 months ago and have still not gotten my money back which was taken without my permission, everytime I phone I either get hung up on or I am told they will call me back with a resolution I am still waiting....

I kinda resent that they said we had "lied". When I sold the iPhone at Carphone, the system would not allow us to sell an iPhone without a contract, and we were lead to believe that it could not be sold without contract AT ALL. I believed it was true.

I never once forced the insurance on a customer. I was worried about what would happen if their phone was lost/stolen without insurance and told them I was worried for them, but it was entirely up to the customer whether they wanted this or not.

i would never buy a phone with them, ever. They only seem interested in getting people on big contracts, and don't care about those that cant (e.g under 18etc). This isnt to do with the insurance, but i have been lied to so many times by them when trying to buy payg phones, about their stock, we eill promise it'll be there in a week, networks etc. They kept wanting me to get my parents to get a contact for me... ?

i want the iphone when it comes to payg and i know i wont be getting it from them!

i work for cpw aswell, we where told from our insurance ( lifeline ) and head office that you had to take a 2nd contract ? why would they set a target of 80%. all we have to do legally is offer the product.

This really pisses me off as i work for carphone and we told all of our customers \about this mistake in writing before their 14 day cancellation period was up of our mistake! Well we certainly did in my store anyway!

For the 14 day policy, all i know is from the start I was told no 14 day return at all unless failed credit check, or faulty- but faulty you have 28 days anyway. Personally I think you should get 14 days, a demo will not tell you everything about a phone.

Can you explain why, 3 days after launch CPW decided to change their 14 day "cooling off" period so that customers who decide to evaluate the iPhone by activating it (it is useless and unusable unless you do not activate it) are no longer covered by the 14 day policy?

With Apple and O2 you can activate and use for 14 days, not so for CPW.

Given that the CPW has already been fined I find it really difficult to swallow that you were misinformed about the lost/replacement procedure. Overlooking something like that it tantamount to gross misconduct. Someone needs to take responsibility for the error.

Apple partner or not Apple tend not to release final, "gold seal" info about their products right and until the last minute.

Sounds like an excuse to me! Perhaps even an "engineered" error.

I am a manager at a Carphone Warehouse store and at managers conference in October we was told by our directors the only way to get a new iphone is to get a new contract So all the managers filtered the information to its staff. the day after the launch Carphone Wareouse did say that this is not the case and customers just need to buy the phone Even though this was communicated to the stores either the message has not gone through or some staff is a bit too commission hungry
