dang this takes me back. my friend and i watched this movie everynight for 7 years when we were 10 till our last football game as a senior in high school. dang they were the best years of my life. and we still watch it every thursday and just talk about the good times we had. years go by so so so fast!
everyone check out "marcellus football" and tell me that A- he didnt get the idea from this movie and B- everyone should not be offended, but inspired.
@kipumbae well then you played for a shitty team (and I'm not talking about the amount of W's you amassed). Every team I have been on (middle, high, and college) have all been a close knit group of brothers who stick up for their comrade to their left and right.
@kipumbae This scene and the movie in its entirety was not about football. Its about a football TEAM, that overcame hatred, racism and bigotry in an area known for it at a time of it and went on to be "perfect."
@kipumbae well this was based in the late 50's early 60's back when they had to over come racism and hatred... but there's nothing like that really anymore not bad enough to make you guys become like family
@kipumbae There's teams, Luckily I was blessed with a team that is like a real family. But I can guarantee you that Football love and brotherhood is real.
@kipumbae I road the bench this year. I got my ass whooped during practice, but guess what? I learned more cause of my team. Sure we weren't the greatest, but we were one heck of a team when it came to having a bond. It's a brotherhood, and if it weren't for my team, I would've been gone on day 1. They helped me through so much, sure we had jokes that got us mad. Football is a family, one that survives losing and one that grows strong from winning.
@ipj79 first love the but I do a different cheerleading where we cheer 24/7 and I'm working out nonstop. So let me see u throw a standing full or get hit in the face by a top girls shoe break ur nose and keep going through a routine that will make u out if breath.
@CuteJazzlinn LMFAO. The first democracy known to man was in Ancient Greece a few thousand years ago. By the way. Anyone with a semblance of an education could guess the nationality of someone who calls themself UtrechtNL. The clue there is in the NL part.
Anyone who believes that this movie is strictly about football, didn't really pay attention to the movie. and anyone who believes the Civil War was a simply about state rights also didn't pay attention in history class.
First off Denzel is an absolutly brilliant actor second this speech gives me chills from beginning to end and 3rd i could go play a football game right now lol
@DCdorian Well partially it was about States' rights. The Southern states believed they had to right to run themselves and the North disagreed. However, as you say the States wanted to run themselves and they were going to use that power for nothing but slavery based ideas.
Inspirational, when they thought that getting along and football was hard, they aint ever experienced war. You can tell they all took that lesson with them in this movie afterwards though into the next game
@chrisM33 I think they meant 50,000 casualties across both sides. Including dead, wounded, lost. But then again this guy is a football coach not a history teacher so I guess it doesn't matter.
@DezGSRD You may be right, but he does say 50,000 dead, but hell your right its a sports movie, and he trying to get across the point about them sacrificing there lives for what they believed. Funny enough though, ive heard many people say they believe 50,000 died in that battle on various other places.
@MrTwixiz The USA was NOT the first country to use democracy. Britains been using it long before...as was Germany and Italy. never forget that the USA is a very very young country and is already in the twilight and fading years of its global supremacy...one superpower gives way to another. China are next. Though, im not too sure if im comfortable with that thought
@83UtrechtNL- Just a bit of clarification. The Battle of Gettysburg is not an American Revolutionary War battle as you indicate. It was of course a battle in the American Civil War. Denzel's speech is referring to slavery of that time, and the struggle in our nation over racial acceptance and equality.
@roxhard123 OMG.... This is not near what you call "football" Dont you hear the word FOOT? sooo stupid you americans. you took the word "football" just bcs your version of it misses a name. thats a shame!
@affeliba1 Shut up you ignorant twat. Im not American, but I know its Football. American Football. Dont be so ignorant labelling people as "soo stupid you Americans" Fucks Sake get a life
@roxhard123 Nah. Football has always been the game played with the, I dunno, ball? Your football is a lot different from the rest of the world. I'd call your ball a 'rugby ball'. Football is played with a different type of ball. Soccer is your word to differentiate
@fireprism2 our ball is smaller than a rugby ball with points on the ends, ovoid balls are still balls. football is played with footballs, theres like 5 football games, there is no one football
We're a young country. Our revolution is still freshly printed in our history books and the boot print of a tyrant is still faintly visible upon the ground. The great men who fought for this land were from a time not so long ago when measured against the timeless ages of man. They stood for principles and ideas that every human being cherishes to the core: the right to live freely and happily and to make a place in this world worth fighting to the death to defend...
@LibertyAtYourService The fact that you see your countries part in history as small, speaks highly of you, because most Americans think they like invented the world or something.
I agree with you on the human level regarding soldiers who fell for their country, though i strongly doubt if the government who sends them has the same noble interests.
I also doubt if everyone cherishes your principals.
@83UtrechtNL Your an idiot. Completely. I dont even know what the hell you were talkin about. Do you even know about our revolution? The people who fought in our revolution were farmers and peasants who were fed up with being mistreated by the stupid ass Brits. There was nothing not noble about what they were fighting for. And... invented the world? what the hell? and show me someone who would not cherish their right to live freely. Its a basic human longing to be able to live for yourself.
@michael67898 when i said this guy i ment the real coach boone that this movie was inspired by the reason i went haha is because this vid happened to be in my recommended videos box so what are the odds? its like their watching me
where's the line where coach boone says "you think you doing something by patrionizing these boys, you crippling 'em coach, your crippling them for life", thats some deep words there, if anyone knows or can find it let me know
this movie means a lot to me because my baseball team in high school was all diversity and there were guys who didnt even speak english. but we came together for the love of the same game... the passion for the game we played was all the language we needed to become not only a team, but also brothers.
@CavsShea69 a true athlete doesn't put down other sports. just because a sport isn't full contact doesn't make it a sport for pussies. baseball is mental with not a vigorous amount of physicality, but enough to tire a player out.
have you ever tried catching 9 innings while keeping track of what hitters have done what in previous at bats without a lineup card on your wrist? knowing what pitches to call with certain batters?
its all mental until that pitcher starts his motion.
Right on bringitbackoldscoo1. Too often football is used as a vehicle for popularity instead of a rite of passage into being a man. If you give your teammates all you got they'll give it back tenfold... and then... you'll win together.
i play football right now im not that great but i havent missed a day of practice i love football i wont quit on it i dnt care how many times i screw up i try my hardest every damn day and i knw 1 day that will be a good thing
i wish our team has as much heart as this team. we have all the talent in the world. but we dont have enough drive. we all want it but we dont want to pay the price to get to the top.
bringingbackoldaschool ill fuckin kill u...u probably hate football cuz ur a little bitch with no friends and wish u could be aprt of an ass kicking team

OK speech, but not the best part of an excellent movie. I always thought it was a little overdone, a little too clearly worthy, earnest and, yes, preachy. It's obvious he's not speaking to a group of high school kids but to all of us; the inference is somewhat insulting. Such lack of sublety perhaps shows why it wasn't as big a hit as the rest of the movie deserved.
Fear GOD who hath power to cast you into HELL(Luke 12:5)! Fear God and depart from evil(Proverbs 3:7)! God is ANGRY with the wicked everyday(Psalm 7:11)! Jesus Christ is the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE, there is NO OTHER WAY to be saved(John 14:6)! For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved(John 3:17)! TURN FROM YOUR SINS AND SUBMIT 2 THE LORDSHIP OF JESUS CHRIST NOW! DON'T BOAST OF HAVING TOMORROW! Proverbs 27:1
I go to TC, our athletics are generally consistent but our academics are terrible. one of the Persistently Lowest Achieving (PLA) schools in the country.
@titansoccaplaya9 come to mcroberts in richmond BC canada, we have a strong athletics and education. Our rugby team was so good they toured Europe to play, our Ultimate team came 2nd in the province, our senior soccer team can 3rd in the country, our table tennis team came 2nd in the province and was off by a point and our Reach for the Top Team(Trvia Team) got 2nd in the country
I wish nowadays football players (mostly high school players) play the game for the glory of the game, not to see who gets laid.. and how many times you get laid just for being a football player.. Look at movies like this (based on true stories). they all play for the love and glory of the game.. I did
this speek cam realte to everyone as well if only people droped there fists and learned to join togethor as one. the blacks white mexicans asians etc.

this movie means a lot to me because my baseball team in high school was all diversity and there were guys who didnt even speak english. but we came together for the love of the same game... the passion for the game we played was all the language we needed to become not only a team, but also brothers.

@Kr1chfact0rX baseball is for pussys tho..

If you give your teammates all you got they'll give it back tenfold... and then... you'll win together.

i wish our team has as much heart as this team. we have all the talent in the world. but we dont have enough drive. we all want it but we dont want to pay the price to get to the top.

I wish nowadays football players (mostly high school players) play the game for the glory of the game, not to see who gets laid.. and how many times you get laid just for being a football player.. Look at movies like this (based on true stories). they all play for the love and glory of the game.. I did

@trojans7 nothing wrong with playing for love of the game and getting laid after... i did

This movie keeps getting better with time, truly inspirational due to the entire cast and the great acting of the lead actor Denzel Washington.
