Who cares if this is exactly the right tempo? I am amazed at how beautiful the performance is. I love hearing such a wonderful piece of music performed by an amazing musician.
This is my farorite part for the four seasons because it is so dramatic. This one and the first part for winter. I love love love those parts and could play them on repeat all day.
Since the baroque instruments had a very weak sound, they had to either play fast or trill to be loud. For this reason there are so many Baroque pieces in Allegro, Vivace, and Presto. Also note that Baroque slow pieces are always played quietly.
The Musicians back then were also professional and VERY good at what they do, so it is entirely plausible that they played this fast back in those days.
That's pure conjecture on your part. They may have very well played this music better and faster than we do today. Keep in mind that this was high art music and pop music back in the day.
@vlhere I am in no way attempting to discredit your opinion but it is impossible to base anyone's talent or the tempo taken based purely on a time period. Just because the first people to play it weren't from the 20th century doesn't mean they were not as or even more capable at performing a piece of music than today's master. Take, for instance, Paganini, who was considered the best violinist ever (even if not from the same time period), who's playing has, or maybe never, will be matched.
How disappointing, one would think that with two great artists such as Zukerman and Mehta collaborating this would be awesome, but it's kinda sloppy. And what do the flowing streams have to do with this piece? This piece is about a storm.

not too keen on them using a conductor, even if it is zubin mehta.
though it depends whether they wanted it to be an authentic performance or not though.

Actually one would think that but the truth is:
Since the baroque instruments had a very weak sound, they had to either play fast or trill to be loud. For this reason there are so many Baroque pieces in Allegro, Vivace, and Presto. Also note that Baroque slow pieces are always played quietly.

@Shadowtech666 Are you saying they're using the baroque instruments(with the strings made out of goat guts?)
Aaron128920 11 months ago
@Aaron128920 not. they are all on modern instruments with modern strings. They are just taking a period tempo.

who gave you that idea?!
