  • when welding in a new panel such as a rocker panel can you bondo over the e -coat or must it be removed to bare metal first ? thanks for the video.

  • @mrnockers If you do not to take the e-caot off leave it on there. If you are plug welding you can probably just grind the weld area smooth and prime and block the spots. If you are splicing with a butt or lap weld, I would grind the weld area and use fiberglass filler. This will provide a better seal for corrosion.

  • Looks like certi fit fender to me

  • @tezgaa84 No, it is a fender that our Honda dealership donated to us.

  • Great video. I'm not clear but are you priming after your sand? Or is the fender good for paint at this point?

  • @SmellyGymShorts Once sanded I use a primer sealer, but you shoot your paint over the sealer without sanding. Spray the sealer, let it flash and then shoot the base coat.

  • @ButlerCollision Won't primer sealer be rough? I thought primer normally is sanded. Thanks!

  • @SmellyGymShorts No, primer sealer sprays smooth and base coat can be sprayed directly on top of it without sanding. Primer surfacer is thicker and sprays rougher, which will require sanding.

  • hey. my friend has a 1969 oldsmobile 442 that has rust damage in spots. we just started removing the visible spots by hand with 150 grit paper. should we sand the whole thing with a block by hand. sanding with 80 then 150 and so on. just to get it ready for primer. and in spots where the rust has ate into good metal pretty bad should we apply bondo on it. if so how do we do that? thanks

  • @holeinone666 If rust has pitted the metal I would use a spot blaster to clean the rust out of those areas. It is a 69 so tou should have enough metal. If there is nothing wrong with the other areas, just sand it with 400 grit and seal over the old paint. I would not sand the whole thing to metal unless there was a problem with the paint.

  • Butler,

Would I apply the same concept to a plastic bumper? a front bumper that is? I will be ordering a new replacement bumper for my 06 Toyota Corolla. Thanks for all your help btw.
