  • We Vietnam veterans only wanted America to love us as much as we loved her. We took an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution, and we never rescinded that oath.

  • American Pride!!!

  • I totally get the song, but are you seriously suggesting we call ourselves USAans???? SERIOUSLY?????

  • My old man did a tour in Nam and I did two tours, 1 in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan. I lost a lot friends because of this war. I took 2 rounds to the leg and one to the chest. I survived thankfully. War isn't that fun game my friends and I used to play with caps guns anymore. Rest in peace my brothers and sisters in arms, I salute you. You made the ultimate sacrifice. All gave some, some gave all

  • amazing that ronald reagan didnt get the point of this song and used it as his campaign song in 84

  • @bwestnig Judging from the comments nobody gets the point here either.

  • CRIMES: Count 1 - Invasion of Privacy. Count 2- Continuing Crucifixion of Angelina DiMauro. Sunday, January 22, 2012 (C.E.), 12:55 PM (Earth-Eastern Standard Time)

  • Whats americans for you guys? remember that theres North, Central and South Americans. all are Americans, not only the ppl from north specialy from EU

  • @thetaifu Dumbass, the USA is the only country that actually has the word "American" in its name. Seriously, can you name one other country whose citizens refer to themselves as Americans?

  • @Samael527 MORON, The call themselve americans, because, since the beggining ppl from europe started call them Americans , not for the ppl, but for the continent, and started well called them americans because they really are , just like the others americans from the south and central, My point is that is wrong call "americans" only the ppl from USA ,, My fisrt comment wasnt well explained, sorry about that

  • @thetaifu Are you honestly trying to tell me that when someone says "I'm an American," you have absolutely no idea what country they're talking about? My original point still stands, name one country, ONE, whose citizens refer to themselves as "Americans." People simply do not identify themselves by continent, which is why (for example) people in Japan call themselves Japanese instead of Asian.

  • @Samael527 I'm not telling you that if a person tells me that is american i wouldnt know which country that person comes from, what im saying is that USa took tne name of americans bcoz ppl from Europe started calling them americans since the beggining, bcoz of the continents name. And from my point of view I find it wrong that USA citizens call thenselve americans only, just that, U seem to not understand me, or I just dnt explaining well myself, but i know what ur saying

  • @Samael527 Tell me any reason why they started saying themselve "americans" then? Just like you say, Japs ppl wouldnt call themselve Asians. What im saying is, taking that name for a country only is wrong, but is a fact that, that name has been taken for a country only, wich is USA

  • I'm a teenage girl and I love this song!!! How America has faults and how men will do so much for their country and still be forgotten like that. Reminds me of my grandpa I never met.

  • GGGOOOOOOD MOOOOOOORNING VIETNAM!

  • 4 people were born else-where..

  • AMMMMMMMMEERRRRRRRRRRRICCAAAAA!!!!!

  • this song if u listen actualy says problems with america ok so it may same patroitic but its not

  • alliterate assholes don't get the picture.....

  • I don't think it is necessarily wrong to interpret this song as a Patriotic song. While it is definitely a song which was criticizing the conflict in Vietnam at the time I don't think that it is anti-american by any means. Just anti warhawk

  • can you explain to me the meaning and significance of this song?

  • @Charissecoal Why are you trying to interpret "Born in the USA" lyric? Hes not trying to show hes sad about losing anyone. Jesus effing christ. His lyrics are as plain as we day. Hes proud to be an american, now im using my words here. But I think means, he loves his goddamn country, aimt no secret meaning

  • Incorrect, it's dedicated to those who fought (and those who lost their lives) at vietnam, and every war. Simple minds, we lost people in every war fought. Its not just deticated to one war.

  • Crazy4guitar26 is almost right, it's against the american citizens who didn't fight in Vietnam

  • This song is not a protest against America like that idiot crazy4guitar26 suggest, but a protest against the treatment of Vietnam Vets.

  • Interpretation: Born in America the people treat you so bad you lose confidence then he got in a fight or some sort of trouble and instead of prison the army was chosen and he was stationed in Vietnam fought for the country to come home to no job. His brother in Vietnam was killed and the Viet Cong were still there. Now its ten years later and he still has the hometown jam on his record and no job so he is just drifting with nothing but his music...

  • Fuck America let's rebel!

  • The USA is a horrible country. And the background pictures in this video is laughable. As other people have pointed out, this song is Anti-Reagan. Shame people can't listen to music and tell this stuff for themselves.

  • @TheMikeyX Hey, Mikey, it is one thing to say that the song is Anti-Reagan and quite another to say that the US is a horrible country. You don't have to be a right wing nut job to be an American, despite what many Tea Party fanatics may think

  • @TheMikeyX Shut up!

  • @usarmento That was both mature and polite.

  • Worth listening to the lyrics in the verse. Got to love the Boss :)

  • I dont think its anit america its anti war... the hooks says hes born in america over and over pretty sure that means something its just supposed to show u what he went through... is rambo anti america movie? Same exact shit happens to him and he still down for america

  • I totally agree...my husband told this song was antiAmerican but I didnt know the words...just checked them out and he was right...Bruce Springsteen can go suck it!!!!

  • @Kaitlynhopesmom Hey, if criticizing ones own country policies is anti American, then you better start looking for another America, because you are not living in DEMOCRATIC AMERICA.

  • This the first time I have fully read the lyrics but it was always clear to me it was a protest song - not just against the Vietnam War but also against the plight of the working classes in the US. I am amazed that anyone could miss the point of the song. They clearly haven't heard anything else Springsteen has written and sung.

  • As much as I think this song is a bit overrated, I am English, and the concept is clear, the song criticises the way the American public and media treated the soldiers upon their arrival back from Vietnam...

  • @Jordzyf130 it wasn't just the media, only about 30% of people supported the war. The other 70% also hated vietnam veterans and were also treating them bad

  • @jeffstarz hence this song xD

  • Uhhh. Why is this set to patriotic images when the song is all about disenfranchisement from the "american dream" and the US military?

  • It's only class warfare when we learn to fight back!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • RIP Clarence, may he play his saxophone in the sky forever...

  • when i see red white and blue, i see the us. it is our beautiful flag! i would hope bruce springsteen wouldn't be so sorry as to support any country that is not our own! i am a mother, a citizen, a veteran, and a supporter of peace. if it is war you wan't and not peace, you can FUCK OFF AND DIE! your point of view, (whether or not it is your religion) WILL NOT change mine! it is called self-defense and counter-terrorism when we are forced to fight. remember the twin-towers? YAY FREEDOM FOREVER!

  • @0801carolann Damn straight!

  • after all these years i finally read the lyrics ...not a american by the way ... amazing song and yes a war protest song that is just as relevant today .

  • You guys are all wrong about the song it's not anti-American, and it's not a Vietnam War protest song. It's a song about how the Veterans were treated when they got back! and they're still being dumped on! You guys were evidently born after the war.

  • @Jerrycolj I get it and I'm sixteen.

  • I miss you Dad, the circle wiont be broken!

  • i think it s a protest song against the américan governement not against the américan peoples.i was born in france and it isn't terrible too.in france you have a lot of protest song too.the frenche governement is so bad.

  • I had a friend that died in Vietnam :(..... It's Bruce's view of the Vietnam War and is still applicable today.. Great song!!!! If you listen to the end lyrics. He states he is a cool rockin daddy in the USA

  • I had a friend that died in Vietnam :(..... It's Bruce's view of the Vietnam War and is still applicable today.. Great song!!!!

  • Sickass video

  • I guess some people just dont know how to hear the words in the song... they assume they know what this song is all about.. yes the words is saying born in usa but its alot more than that.... just saying.

  • duh everyone knows it is an anti war song, when he does it live he tells a story with it that tells his veiws not only against the war but more of the treatment of our returning soilders or lack of treatment I should say!

  • This isn't a song against the soldiers, it's against the assholes who sent them there! I don't know why ppl can't separate the two. It's like saying liberals are against the soldiers today because we're against the War in Iraq or Afghanistan. We love the troops and don't want them to get killed for a lie or something that isn't working. Get the hell out of Iraq and Afghanistan!

  • I'm an Australian who just returned from Vietnam. I met an old guy and his daughter selling flowers in Saigon, his face and upper body were melted, his teeth were exposed as were his nasal and left eye cavities, very confronting, his injuries were over 30 years old. At the time of the conflict he was a Southern farmer hiding in the mountains with his family and community, not viet cong....he stroked my 10 year old sons blue eyed face and said,"boy is scared" it fucking killed me.

  • I wasn't born in the USA but I love this song!

  • @HackGlitchWarrior kind of like u? americano?

  • Vietnam was a complete waste of time, money and human life. And for those who dont know the USA lost that war.

  • @goldenmushroomz thats not true. No one truely won the war. it was more of a tie then a lose. Vietnam did claim victory but no one truely won it.

  • @luop70 Vietnam ended up a wholly communistic country and wasn't even split into two like Korea, so yeah, they pretty much won!

  • @neoviking69 well there were way heavier losses in the north then in the south. So it depends really on what point of view you look it at.

  • Yeah its against the soldiers .....sheeesh i guess hollywood gotta hold of BS tooo why don"t they just perform n let politicians do the politics.....whata ass my hubby fought in 2 wars n the boss is a stab in the back F him

  • Exactly .....the song is not anti-America....

  • @aras1483 Wikipedia says otherwise....

  • Is it possible to protest against your girl, and what she is doing, and yet still love and defend her with your very life?

Does ANYONE ever consider that sometimes you have to, or get forced into doing things that appear to be wrong in the short term? But is actually what is best for the long term? You roll over and beg while you think up a clever trap, that you yourself cannot figure out a way out of. Then you spring it. It is NEVER over until you win or or satisfied.

  • @yourgodwillbowtous its more like always being told you are free{born free} only to find out your choices are to become a criminal of the state or to kill whatever they tell you to

  • anti vietnam war

  • The song is not anti-america, it's more anti war. The song tells the sad story of how the goverment abandoned(s) our Vets after they have served our country.

  • How is this song against America? PS Great video

  • Just came back from , can't bealive any of this actually went on and still does .

  • It's a song about us Vietnam Vets. Very true words about the VA, fought them for years and finally getting something back.

  • Bruce may be criticizing America but he's glorifying Americans. I remember when this song came out. It was a time when Americans NEEDED something that made them feel good about themselves... warts and all.

  • Great song with a great message. Sums up how stupid you lot are interpretign it as patriotic though. The song clearly criticizes American involvement in the Vietnam War and the US government's disregard for the working class (especially soldiers returning from Vietnam)

  • Comment removed

  • @ciarankl11 no the chorus " Born in the USA" is the patriotic part. The versus are talking about a hopeless life of a Vietnam Vet after the war ended. They are contrast to each other. The versus talk about how the government abandoned them but also in the chorus he's glorifying the americans. The versus and the chorsus contrast each other. Hes criticizing in the versus glorifying in the chorus

  • How many times are people going to misinterpret this song? It's anti Vietnam war. Reagan got it wrong in 84' and people still don't get it.

  • @steviegnj even if regan got it wrong this song helped him to get re-elected :)

  • @steviegnj Who cares?

  • this is a protest song AGAINST America you hick

  • what do you mean with a potest agains america?

  • @asskicker231 LOOOOOOOOLLL i cant believe your the one who posted this video ... read the lyrics dumbass.

  • @asskicker231 It's about the Vietnam War. "Sent me off to a foreign land to go and kill the yellow man." only reason being he was "Born in the USA."

  • @asskicker231 It is protest song against Vietnam war. Read the lirycs - to kill yellow man! But Bruce Springsteen says that now the meaning of this song is prayer for peace for the world.

  • @asskicker231 man forget them look at the name of the album and look at the cover if that is anti america not sure what is patrotic ... but it is an Anti vietnam war song about how they treated the soilders on there return... havent u ever seen rambo?

  • @asskicker231 Against the America Ronald Regan, consumerism, destitution, economic depression, etc.. Also against the America that created the Vietnam war or the Irak War supposedly "for the sake of freedom" Basically against everything that the later Republicans and Tea Party fanatics have done to our country, dude.

  • @asskicker231 listen to the lyrics! it's an anti viet nam war song!

  • @asskicker231 It's in protest of their treatment of veterans. Vietnam vets didn't exactly get the star treatment when they came up. A lot of them ended up homeless.

  • @asskicker231 he is speaking for the vietnam vets who were shat on upon thier return home. they were treated like dogshit and the lyric "born in the usa" is expressive of their frustration and anger towards the government for betraying them and denying them the promise of the american dream

  • @crazy4guitar26 no it isnt u dummy

  • @crazy4guitar26 it is a song about a hopeless vietnam vet.

  • great performer!!! great song!!!
