Cool. Thx for posting this awesome scene/song. I saw this in the theatre when it was released long ago. I never have gotten the look of the soldier's eyes as he lit his cigarette. A tale written only as Roger Waters could.
You're right. This song was recorded the same time as the album (The Wall) in 1979 but wasn't added because it was thought by other members of the band to be too personal. It wasn't added to (The Final Cut) until it's 2004 reissue.
@mellowmark1 i would have definitely loved it on the wall, but i was just glad it made it on to one of their albums, it's a great song. props for combining the two halves.
last one...cont'd. ( I hope and apologize if I am breaking any rules or etiquette by segmenting my post.
Anyway, similarly, 'Hey you' wasn't in the film but was on the album. I'm rambling. as I do not recall when Richard Wright left, but did play on 'the Wall'
when the tigers broke free, a beautiful haunting song, so befitting the movie, but can also be part of the war themed pain and angst of the final cut. Again, the Wall movie came out long after the album. FWIW.
sorry, not an often poster who doesnt know the rules.
I believe Roger saying once that Empty spaces the first one was the same song melodically as the 2nd one near the end. Even though he both believed them significant to the piece, he didn't want the musical repetition and the end one was more important, in his eyes.
(Please I am going by memory on this last part and any good Floyd'er should know that we might be missing a few pieces of previously good brain cells.)
ah mae if this is your 1st time video editing i'll want to see more of them when you go pro as this is by far an amazing feat you did, and wow it's so amazing to see a video with nice posts. Keep posting Mellowmark1 great work :)
It's amazing to me how much this song resonates with me. Even though I was kicked out of the U.S. Army after only 3 months, not a day goes by that I don't think of the people I served with back in Spring of '89. It was around the time President Bush, Sr. was starting to send troops to the Mid-East. everytrime I hear this song or watch this video or hear this song, I can't help but wonder what became of my friends in my platoon at Fort Dix, N.J. .
This song reminds me of my daddy. Good and sad at the same time. I love it. <3
