Well, in Canada we are very tolerant of people's beliefs, lifestyle, orientation, culture etc. So while it may seem like there are a lot of Canadian fags, there's just a lot more visible ones. We aren't persecuted here.

As for ESL, since we are so open to other cultures, we tend to want to learn more about them. One of the easiest ways to do this is to become an ESL teacher. It's a very rewarding experience. It's a fantastic world out there if you open your mind to it.

Indeed, I could add that having passed a Multiculturalism Act in 1988, and having decriminalized homosexuality in 1969, Canada is more than willing to open its doors - and minds - to differences in history, appearances, cultural practices, etc.

With a predominance of liberal policy-makers since 1988, one is now accustomed to these differences, willing to understand them, and critical of any sense of threat that may come of them: hence the benefits of a Canadian education!
