it is not that conception was a better band. but different in the fact that they were a pretty mature band for their youg age at the time. they were talking about pretty mature subjets in their songs. and with that beautiful incredible music they were unique. unfortunately this band has never had the respect it deserved. stellar musicianship and stellar unique vocals.

Seriously though, both Kamelot (Symphonic Power Metal) and Conception (Progressive Power Metal) are probably the most unique in their respective genres. Had they become more popular (and if Kamelot ends up doing so) they would change the genre forever. But they aren't the only unique ones. Angra (mostly Progressive Symphonic Power Metal) and Almah (Symphonic Power Metal) are unique driving forces in their genres.

Gente, Conception, saudade do Khan mais novo, lindo como sempre e a voz perfeita. Mas temos que admitir que Kamelot é maravilhosa tbm. Ainda nao consegui escolher minha banda preferida entre as, mas comecei gostando do Roy pelo Kamelot... Conception: gente nova e cheia de gas. Kamelot: um cantor mais maduro e com tecnicas vocais mais aguçadas... Eu prefiro as duas rs

Khan is one of, if not, my favourite singers. I didn't know about Conception until a friend told me about it. It's rather different, but still very beautiful. I must say though I prefer Kamelot to Conception. It's simpler, more catchy, more symphonic and also Khans voice is better. Those very high tones (unfortunatly) are a bit out to date. Still I think his technique is much better now and despite of a slightly lower register his voice seems more controled. Go Khan!!

@lordmithharn see you can work on your range and get higher, but no matter how hard I try I won't be able to get the deep boomy tone that Roy has. I envy his voice!

@JamesCrow22 It is typical. We always want to do with our voice what our idols can do, while others are the only ones who can see the uniqueness in our voice. As for extending your range downwards, I would advice you to do vocal exercises in the morning, when your voice is already deep. It might help. The human voice was designed to naturally reach an eight octave vocal range, so with enough of the right training, I believe you can do it after all :)

Increíble como ha cambiado Roy Khan. Pero tengo q decir q 16 años son 16 años. Su estilo, voz y aparencia, son totalmente diferentes a las ahora. Aunq ahora sea Kamelot su prioridad, la reunion q hicieron en 2005 despues de haberse separado en 1997, no fue por q si, fue por q hay pendiente un nuevo album sin fecha. Khan dice q ya tiene compuestas varias canciones para ese posible album, q se haria en un supuesto descanso de Kamelot, q no es seguro. Pero el dice q aprobecharia ese descanso.

Man, even way back then Khan's voice was perfect. I'm a huge Kamelot fan, and one day I decided to see if any of the members had any other bands, and I came across Conception... I now own all of Conception's albums. :). I really wish they hadn't broken up, but then again, we would have never gotten Kamelot, so... lose-lose situation there. Still, Conception is in a completely different league from Kamelot.

I think Khan sounds much better (and looks much better) now. He voice sounds grittier and weaker than it does in Kamelot. I still like some of Conception's music. I'm just trying to figure out how you got something as insanely amazing as Kamelot out of this and old pre-Khan Kamelot (which is, in my opinion, pretty bad).

I love Conception and Kamelot both. I had the great honor of meeting Khan outside of a concert at St. Paul MN in August 2007. Both bands are excellent, but totally different styles. Parallel Minds is my favorite Conception CD. This song and Roll The Fire are awesome.
