  • lol i have mg zr but my dream car is supra so sad.

  • this rover is amazing, just saw this in person at the fast show an was the quickest thing there! not bad for a rover 200 ;)

  • I own a ZR and it really is a car you love to hate!

  • @evileaub

    Sell it then?

  • I had a Supra and would still prefer a Supra, end of

  • had a zr 160 and absolutly loved it but i just got annoyed coz i kept getting £100-200 faults springing up all the time and jus got annoyed in the end and got rid of it :( - The problems I mainly got was - oil leaks from the engine casing, oil gasket, interior falling off, air conditioning tube went coz of the hard suspension slowing killing the pipe, needed a new manifold, silencer and cat, and was a lot of corrision through out, window regaulators, and unfortunalty there was more :(

  • t16 all the way!

  • My mate has a modified 1.4 ZR that nearly beat a BMW 530d (stock) in a drag last weekend, as it was a close finish in 0-60 race. The ZR gave the 3 litre BM a run for it's money. The BM driver said he has never raced a quicker 1.4- - I want a ZR!!

  • Una ZR Turbo è il massimo che si possa desiderare!!

  • haha yeah that supra got owned!

  • bay bay supra

  • cool vid even tho supra was not trying at the start! but fuck yea go mg plus i just got 1!

  • ZR TURBO! YEAH!

  • Haha that supra got well and truly wasted. The supra does sound sweet though. Go MG!!

  • head gaskets arnt totaly to blame, over heating caused most cases of HGF and over heating was caused by poor maintenance not to mention thrashing the crap out of them lol

I suggest everyone checks theirs for a water top up right now...

  • why r u laughing cos ur headgasket went? I'd go mental. lol

  • Er, the only Honda engines used were in the early 90's and were the B16's before the K series was increased in capacity.

Honda used the L series diesel engine as well, so I guess that makes them shit? Really, learn what your on about and you wont make such a tit of yourself. Ill have a T series over VTAKWTFYO any day of the week.

  • Errr, maybe you should do some research before posting a comment.

I love it when you see all the ads on eBay stating a 'Rover 620Ti with a Honda engine'. Despite it saying 'Rover' on the cam cover.

    Genius :D

  • head gaskets are the main problem in K series, the engine wa amazing in its day but times have changed...

Plus Honda are the BEST engine manufacturer in the world, any car company should be proud to have the powerplant in there shell

  • Still is amazing, easy to tune etc, tis why lotus used them loads untill recently.

Most rover engines would still out perform hondas of siilar spec, especialy economy wise, rover k sereis were designed for city travel or city "roving" :D

Nothing wrong with the head gaskets so long as they were looked after, and i meen seriously looked after, not just the odd peek under the hood, they are very high maintenance and any loss of water over time is too much so you gotta keep an eye on everything!

  • Hi mattkingston08 i have just read your post and i absolutely agree with you about the K series Engines. I had a ZR 160 on a 54 plate. It was a stunning car, bloody fast. But the engines are very delicate. I had it for 3 years and i sold it because of the problems i had with it. But i regret selling it now. I miss it. The VVTI camshaft broke on me, the Camshaft seals kept going. And the Alternator kept over charging my batteries. But i then got a ZS 180. They are much worse.

  • Thats a shame its even worse!!!! probs because both ZR160 and ZS180 have basically the same engine but the ZS180 has the cylinders made wider and although you get bigger engine sizes by doing this it sometimes makes the engine weeker :S

I like the ZT190 with KV6 engine, its a V6 so its very smooth and its a very different design from the other K series and as a result it seems to be very reliable, the head gaskets on this engine will fail just as often as any other car out there today. YAY!!!

  • hehe silly, the ZS180 is the 2.5 V6 lol

no Head Gasket problems in the ZS 180 either, its my favourite ever "affordable" car

  • @sherriepegasus Well thats a fine statement of total crap lol

    The ZS 180 uses a 2.5 litre V6 K series (hence KV6)

    The ZR 160 uses a 1.8 litre VVC K series engine (160bhp)

    The 25 GTi uses a similar 1.8 VVC K series (143bhp)

The KV6 is very different to the regular 4 pot K series engines. You can swap any of the K series engines around between any of the Rover 200/25 or MG ZR's (and larger cars). However it takes alot of effort to squeeze a KV6 into a ZR engine bay.

  • @alchomy666 i always thought it was headgasket problems on these cars,up untill 05?

  • @chongwong You mean up until the end of MGR?...

The biggest problem with the K Series Headgasket is the person sat behind the wheel. Rev the engine high while its still cold, you'll ruin the headgasket in no time. They're certainly not boy racer friendly cars.

However letting the engine warm up before passing 2.5k-3k rpm and the headgasket will last a long time.

  • @SirRicwin cheers, i've been thinking about geting one for the daily commute to and from work, and had remembered that a few of my friends 2 or 3 years ago (at the time 'boy racers) had blown the head gasket to smithereens, i did however here that in the later models they revised the head gasket design to make it more robust, any ideas, or am i again misguided?

  • @chongwong There is an uprated gasket you can use (MLS or Multi Layer Steel) however this was not fitted as standard as far as I know. It was developed to combat the lack of drivers knowledge regarding safe use of the rev counter.... lol

You'll not find a problem with a ZR for you're daily driver. They're much better than people give them credit for. If you have far to travel, why not try a ZR Diesel? The L Series diesel engine is indestructable compared to the K and you can do alot with them.

  • @chiefgilray i drove a rover 25 for years and never had a problem with the engine but 2 gearboxs blew up

  • @ckeith1987 rover is a great car. but the problems was its looks, MG is rover but with the looks.

  • @provideotube yeah that was the problem. not the gearboxs blowing up, the brake discs warping, the cv joints breaking, the sunroof leaking, the dash electrics cutting out when you hit a bump, the suspension fluid leaking out of the shock absorber or the handbrake not working.

  • @ckeith1987

The other problem was people just making up a load of faults, though I will give you crappy leaking sunroof seal leaks.

  • @charlieflint Lol true enough. Non-sunroof model ftw!

  • Heh, true although Ford took Volvo's 5 pot turbo engine, put it on a dyno and slapped a Ford sticker on it. American cars...grr

TBH this looks the work of the T-series (Turbo M series) not the K, but I could be wrong.

Anyone know what power plants in this beast?

  • Not sure what you meant with that one, but the T series was not an M series Turbo.

The M series NASP and Turbo models were released a few years before the T series NASP and Turbo were used.

The ZR in the video is Andy Nicholls' beast! Currently running somewhere in the region of 700bhp from a T series.

  • no the m series was a turbo the vittese and 620ti had them, the t-series is a development of the m

  • The 820 Vitesse and 620Ti didn't use the M series at all.

The earlier Mk1 820 Turbos (pre 1992) used the M series Turbo engines. The M series NASP was also used.

After 1991, the M series was replaced by the T series and was used in the 220, 420, 620 and 820s in both NASP and Turbo form.

The T and M series blocks are identical, but obviously the pistons are different, the M series having used stronger pistons.

  • The rover engines were from rover....

rover made some of hondas though, maybe you meen that.

  • Rover built some of the best engines in the world that still beat even newer engines in its own class to this day!! Rover K & T series best engines is the work imo, even the rover diesel engines are quick.

  • indeed, the k series was revolutionary for its time and so was much lighter so power to weight was great thanks to the new techniques MGR used.

  • Ah so true !!

Hey dude look up Turbo Dreams and Redline on here there are sweet Supra vids ;)

  • gotta love that highpitched turbo whistle!!

  • whoa!

  • hahahahahahahah!!!

    te amo mg zr!!

  • that mg is nice wa kinda speed u doing in that

  • Jesus! That mg creamed that toyota!

  • man that FWD MG goes well.

  • That's Andy N's MG ZR at TOTB3. At that time it was probably circa 450bhp. I think it's pushing around 700bhp now.

  • powerful as fuck i love mg zr's shame mine n as quick though lol

  • fast rover............... long live rover

  • Supra Vs Zr
