hey, how much of a difference did fixing the knock sensor problem did you notice.. in boost and hp? bcus i know a bad knock sensor triggers 'saftey mode' which limits the boost and retards the timing..
Can Some one help me .. my 300zx 1991 2+2 makes a knocking sound every time i press the clutch in and when it comes back out . i dont know what the problemm iss . Any Helppp..
hey i have the same problem and my sensor is bad and the hardness broke off i relocated this knock sensor on top of the intake that way i dont have to take everything apart for now but everytime i open the throttle its not that responsive and takes awhile to rev up quick not like it used too will this knock sensor do that ?
hey im trying to replace my knock sensor but where do i find it at i read that its on the uper plemu if u could help me that would be great i have a 90 300ZX N/A
@bahrec4 it underneath the lower intake manifold to actually get to it you would have to remove the lower intake manifold i think? not sure if you could get to it with just the motor out its probably better to leave it in there are just connect a new one like he says on the video
The ECU is on the passenger side of the car underneath the wooden panel. Remove the floormat , 2nd pull the carpet back in the footwell to reveal a wooden piece velcroed to the carpet. remove 4 screws to expose the ECU. turn the car to the on position and on the side of the ecu you will see a L.E.D light and a dial. turn the dial clockwise until it stops then after 3 secs turn it back to it's original position. then begin reading the codes it throws. you can either watch the light or the CEL
(check engine light) the first number will be a series of slow flashes meaning a code 34 (which is the knock sensor code) will flash like so.... flash.......flash........ flash.. (meaning three) the second number will be displayed like so. flash.flash.flash.flash( meaning four) so read the slow flashes first as they are the first number of the code and the slow flashes are the second number
Nissan Place the original Det. sensor near the lower plenum. Over time the knock sensor wears out from normal operation and heat. The OEM location requires the plenum to be removed and Nissan Charges 2k to fix. this is a $100 fix that will get rid of the 34 and still detect knock, or detonation.
they do not WEAR out, they melt from overheating or the terminals corrode from a coolant leak, I ve replaced too many of these to count. the lower intake has to be removed to replace the pezio sensor and it is NOT fun with the engine in the car !
sensor bolts to the top of the block.
I replace this sensor on EVERY build while the engine is out of the car and apart. ALL sensors are designed to be bolted DIRECTLY near the TOP of the block to operate as intended. intake plenum is not effective.
WOW omg your like 10 minutes away from the BEST Z SHOP in all of east coast. We should definitely get together man. I'm in Knightdale NC and we build some of the most high powered Zs, every freakin day because of how good we are. We just got another client in and pulling his motor soon. It be cool to get together and shoot the shit man!
Dude I already know this. By the way the other bolt you were looking at is the best location, but you need a longer bolt. Which you can get at Ace hardware.
Check out this VID of mine where you can see where i put the knock sensor. O by the way we are a Z32 specialty Shop!
To each his own, this was for people who know nothing about where/how/when to relocate the knock sensor or even know what a knock sensor is. Where i am i have the best Z mechanic alive in Smithfield NC, Everyone has "their" best place to put it. But in fact the Best place besides stock on on the back of the engine and can be done when the tranx is out. Like i said just info the newbie to the z32. Happy z'ing
