I think that this may be the most byast video's I have ever seen. Not everyone have domestic helpers, there are parks and beach's that the helpers go to on Sunday, not just the street. I am not Chinese nor Filipino, and I would like to give a third person's account of the real situation.
1. A vast majority of the Filipino maids are happy about their employment and their pay. This fact is empirically reflected by the fact that there are so many of them in Hong Kong.
2. This is not slavery. The video showed marginal cases of bad things done to the maids as though it's happening for the majority of the maids. Simply not true.
For sure some are treated very poorly but the housemaids who work for my cousins in HK are treated exceptionally. One has been with the family for over 20 years and has even brought her son over from the Philipines to work as a driver which my cousins allowed. One has to consider that what they make in HK is a lot more than back home and it truly provides them with a good steady income to send back home. There's def. some bad cases but it all boils down to employers who hire them.
I don't think this is "slavery" more like "very bad working conditions." I think the title sheds a bad and perhaps erroneous image of HK - it's probably one of the most progressive cities in China (and Asia, for that matter.) But then again I don't live there. This stuff is believable and real, and I hope the HK gov't will do something.

I think that this may be the most byast video's I have ever seen. Not everyone have domestic helpers, there are parks and beach's that the helpers go to on Sunday, not just the street. I see only two solutions: (1) increase their wage from EUR350 to EUR3500, or (2) help them to find other countries (aka Singapore) that would pay them even less. I am sorry but if their skills and abilities can only extend so much, dont expect a free lunch and try to extort more!

if you would like to blame, then blame the HK government in the 980s, which unfortunately was the British, who invented the import of foreign maid to HK that time. The salary was set by them, and all the 'slavery rules' were set by them.
No body force those ppl to work in HK actually, it is in fact the government of Philipine, Indoneasia encorage their young female to work here and support their country.

That's right, and you won't find many Cantonese migrating to the Philippines looking for work. These maids are NOT slaves; they've moved to Hong Kong because their life is BETTER there. All people are "commodities", including the presenter of this film. I'm not defending employer abuses, but this film is bullshit.

These accidents can happen anywhere in the world. My family treated our maid as she was part of our family. She could call her family every 3 days, have her own cellphone and sleeps in her own bed in the room with me (this was when in was a kid in Hong Kong). I think this video is pointing the finger too much on HK employers. Maids in Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia have it much worst.

Well, My family does not treat our maid like trash, unlike how this video which shows the bias of abuse. I practically treat my maid like family, and my parents often get her essentials such as laptops, iphones etc. I guess there's always a good employer, and a really terrible one.

Hong Kong people should have a Human Rights Law, against domestic violence, I guess what this video is trying to say is that employers abuse the domestic workers, like not feeding them properly, and skipping salaries. Ive heard that on the news, maybe Hong Kong doesnt televise it on the news.

Also, they're lucky enough to have a fixed wage protected by a government who really has no obligation to serve them at all. Watch people from Hong Kong bargain their wage down to almost nothing if there was not a law in place.

I am not Chinese nor Filipino, and I would like to give a third person's account of the real situation.
1. A vast majority of the Filipino maids are happy about their employment and their pay. This fact is empirically reflected by the fact that there are so many of them in Hong Kong.
2. This is not slavery. The video showed marginal cases of bad things done to the maids as though it's happening for the majority of the maids. Simply not true.

For sure some are treated very poorly but the housemaids who work for my cousins in HK are treated exceptionally. One has been with the family for over 20 years and has even brought her son over from the Philipines to work as a driver which my cousins allowed. One has to consider that what they make in HK is a lot more than back home and it truly provides them with a good steady income to send back home. There's def. some bad cases but it all boils down to employers who hire them.

I don't think this is "slavery" more like "very bad working conditions." I think the title sheds a bad and perhaps erroneous image of HK - it's probably one of the most progressive cities in China (and Asia, for that matter.) But then again I don't live there. This stuff is believable and real, and I hope the HK gov't will do something.

I was very surprised to see this documentary. All I can say is, it's probably not "slavery" (since they're not forced) but the problems should be fixed pronto.
