  • My God...where did this come from...this is not the acoustic version from Bread and Roses...this is the voice of God vibrating in the center of the brain...please where did this come from?

  • @ryokan789 Hey this version is from The Great Blind Degree! It's quite lovely!

  • @ryokan789 this comes from Quick Silver Messenger Service, can't think of the albums'name - but it's about 1969

  • @kabooki09 That's easy:Quicksilver Messenger Service "What About Me"!

  • beautiful absolutely beautiful. now I have to see follow again

  • beautiful absolutely beautiful

  • beautiful

  • over produced but still the song stands out!

  • THE TRUTH !!!!

  • amazing

  • Ritchie P. Havens, classic, I love his 'open our eyes' too

  • putain qu'est ce qu'il est bon

  • more true today than ever before

  • Great song by a great artist. Original done by Quick Silver Messenger Service. I do enjoy this version. Thank You for posting.

  • it´s not classic

    classic is this " Woodstock 1969 (3/10) - Richie Heavens (Freedom) "

  • I remember hearing this song on and on-it was a great LP-jus magic!

  • my dad bought the cassette version of this when I was like 5 or 6 and used to play it in the car....played it the other day, now I'm 18, and i recognised it and now love it!

  • what a classic track !

  • dam this song is so timeless. gonna insist that my band covers it (quicksilver version ) but this has some good twists to it

  • Is anybody out there?? ARE YOU LISTENING????

  • Happy Earth Day Freedom of speech

  • Who else could cover both Dylan and Quicksilver and take both to a whole different level?

  • @Slimjim - Great comments. I remember watching him on the Clay Cole show in the '60's.

  • At one concert I heard that he changed the lyrics a little. And I think those were more apropiate.

"Because most of what you tought them to do is agains our sacred law"

  • great man great voice

  • richie s not dead

  • i love richie and his version. but qms's is still better i think

  • I agree. I'm glad this version is out there, though. My default position is to not favor remakes, but this is beautiful one.

  • Loved Richie's music first time I heard it. He is not only clasic but one of a kind.

Grew up in NY and had a mutual friend. Was so glad to meet him.

He is the reason I went to Woodstock.

  • his latest album "no one left to crown" is so truthful, yet so sad becuase there really is no one left to crown when this man is gone...so sad.

  • We could start another love and peace revolution... it's easy, we need just enough people for that.

  • I'm ready!

  • I used to date someone who lived next door to Richie in NYC and we could hear him singing throughout the night in the warmer months. What a glorious night sound. I think the relationship lasted only because of the night soundtrack!

  • This is such a great track. I have the Great Blind Degree on vinyl, but used to listen on a regular basis to a double album I think called 1983 many years ago. Had standout tracks called Indian Rope Man and I Pity the Poor Immigrant. Richie is long overdue a CD relaunch! What he says is MORE relevant today than ever.

  • yes...couldnt agree more with you

  • a classic. a gentleman. a song.

i was a tourist. all credit to a radio station in portland. played this amazing track plus five others without dj comment, uk stations are not that brave. it was around 10 years ago. i had to tune in in our apartment to find out the track. (this was pre - internet)

but can you imagine/remember the beauty of hearing these lyrics for the first time?

better yet - this guy guided me towards Quicksilver.

    love & mercy to all

  • Everything richie does is fuckin awesome!!!!

  • absolutely

  • Shamal50. You can find this song on a disc called "Resume"

  • thanks a lot, klpra1...

  • Great cover of Dino Valenti's anthem of resistance.

  • Thanks for reminding me of this great tune. I've got The Great Blind Degree, but on an ancient cassette tape that I bought after a long-ago girlfriend, an egghead-hipster named Valerie, introduced the album to me on what proved to be the last time we were together. We need more music like this these days.

  • Great Song, great artist!

Can't find this one on CD called "The Great Blind Degree", it's a shame...

  • Ritchie Havens, the guys a legend!!
