I red a comment few years ago that was saying that there is no song from The Smiths that is bad... I started listening to them and now I see that it is true...
Great Song::::Apparently it was written for Bill McKenzie (Associates) who replied with It Was Something, Stephen. I dunno if the story is apocriphal, but no matter what the Associates tune is here
My son is named after the song. And no! there was is no homosexual links!!! I just love this song and the name, and my schoolfriend back in the mid 80's was called William.
Anyway it is a lush song, want to throw my arms about to this right now.
the best part of hearing new music is finding stuff like this. even for a kid like me, this is timeless. too bad i wasnt even a thought when these guys were together and performing. :/
this town has dragged you down - bought this single in Stevenage New Town - blue skies that day - before the recession at the end of the 80s ripped the heart out of it
Fans of the Smiths will probably like the Dears. Their singer is often referred to as the "Black Morrissey". Check out 22 The Death of All the Romance.
Would you like to marry me? and if you like you can buy the ring... <3
This song was not written to Billy MacKenzie, from what I've read Billy and Morrissey only met up briefly in 1984 for an arranged "press date" and they did not gt along that well. This song refers to a film called "Billy Liar" from 1963 where the protagonist day dreams that he is the ruler of a land called Ambrosia. Outside his day dreams he works for a crappy company and is engaged to a fat girl. I have also heard that Billy liar was also the theme for "Frankly Mr. Shankly"
@RainJetSprinklers I think you might find Frankly Mr Shankly, although some of the subject in the song is about being disgruntled with life, is directed more at Geoff Travis, Rough trades co founder.
<:O ...but this joke is STILL funny, right?
(That crackingy thing is awesome...)
Whatever... get him a medic to play with like Theo...

@metallicjohn It's really a matter of opinion, but the smiths are excellent. In my opinion they are equals.

@metallicjohn The Beatles are overall better.. But i'm well in to the smiths at the mo.. But very different bands!!

Maybe more inventive inspired and independant than any other rock band back in the days.

@RainJetSprinklers Bullshit. Not only was it about Billy Mackenzie but Mackenzie wrote a reply song.
drzen1 1 year ago
@drzen1 The title of Billy's song is "Stephen, your still really something" Moz spells his name "steven". It was all a publicity stunt IMO.
