  • @BADBIKERBENNY Went to number 1 in January 1972

  • I have the Original by the Hillside Singers!

  • Ah, the wonderful sound of scratched vinyl! Really miss it! There is (or was) products to get rid of scratches on records...Peace, Love and Flowers! I was a hippie (still am) i even kept my clothing from back then...it makes a good hit a parties today. Everybody wants them! Groovy, man! Peace baby!

  • this song needs a house remix :D

  • Think i'm gonna puke.

  • I want to dig out my old LP's having listened to that. There's something about the crackle, it feels more like live music.

  • I'de like to teach the world peace :l

  • Lets build a better world, outside of this one. And live life in the best way possible.

  • I love this song. But I dislike the backing in the second half, it seems to go directly against the natural rhythm of the song.

  • If you want to be an animator, get inside the animals...

  • I was in kindergarten too when this came out but only saw the coke commercial of it in black and white TV.

  • i love the scratchs!!! i miss that in the music!! :(

  • This was number one when I was in kindergarten. The older kids on the bus wold play it on a cassette over, and over, and over, and over. Hadn't heard it since.

  • Oasis - Shakemaker

  • I still love this song.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • shakermaker .......... is best

  • Shakermaker! Go Noel!

  • I remember this record! My brother used to play it for me when I was little.

  • id like to teach the world respect .. respect the planet before we kill it

  • My mom used to lull me with this song, only later I discovered it was a Coke ad song n_nU

  • I love the records man but clean that needle in the beginning...

  • Coke. It is the real thing.

  • @areabya19 yeah like me staying on the computer for 30 hours is the real thing (even know i looooove coke)

  • I love this song. the World should sing a long with it

  • Coke!

  • Thanks for posting;only version I'd ever heard was in a COKE ad.

  • I had a record with the song Winkin, Blinkin and Nod. I do not recall who sang it. It was a nursery rhyme.

    Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod

    Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod, one night sailed off in a wooden shoe;

Sailed off on a river of crystal light into a sea of dew.

"Where are you going and what do you wish?" the old moon asked the three.

"We've come to fish for the herring fish that live in this beautiful sea.

Nets of silver and gold have we," said Winkin', Blinkin', and Nod.

  • Ahhhhh, sweet commercialism!

  • @TheChaplinLover nothing better than artificial love by an evil two faced conglomerate company makes me warm and fuzzy inside :D

  • @TheChaplinLover This original wasn't for advertisement! It was Coca-Cola who made the song a commercial. Remember, remember...

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    aaaa

    shake along with mee (8)

  • the scratches at the start bring back so many memories

  • shakermaker? xDDD

  • @confusionandme yep. they got sued for it. still mad fer it though!

  • @stevieg817 i was just reading an oasis book and noel said shakermaker was actually based on the beatles song FLYING

  • Id like to teach the world to sing, and run around and stuff, and pull its pants down to its knees, and chase it through the ruff

  • Ha. If there were no Beatles, Kinks, T-Rex or Rolling Stones, then yeah, Oasis would have been pretty original.

  • Come on, every band or most of them took chords and the melody ,so Liam's favorite bands are, in part, the ones you've mentioned

  • Very authentic, even has the sound of dust on the record and a skip in the beginning

  • does any one know if the new seekers have a song that has somin in it about the land of Nod or somin

get back to me if ya do

    thx

  • Wasn't that "Puff, the magic dragon" by Peter, Paul and Mary?

  • Yes.

  • Wasn't puff the magic dragon an AC-130 spectre gunship?

  • @BrisbaneBoy86 yippity doodar...

  • From what I have looked up so far, I don't think they do. It keeps coming up as kids music or other artists.

  • @BADBIKERBENNY are you thinking of "Morningtown ride" by the seekers maybe?

  • the seekers "morningtown ride" ??

  • @Threemuskateerettes Yes, try "Morningtown ride" by the Seekers.

  • @Threemuskateerettes i think there was a song by the seekers called morningtown ride if that's the one you're on about

  • @Threemuskateerettes Are you thinking of "Winken Blinken and Nod" (possibly not spelled this way)? There was a version of this poem put to music by the Simon Sisters in 1964. The Simon Sisters were Carly (yes, that Carly) and Lucy. I have also heard a version by the Big Three, who evolved into the Mamas & Papas.

  • @Threemuskateerettes try: morningtown ride 1968

  • @Threemuskateerettes Try morning town ride!

  • Well, as I said before it wasn't directed at you, so don't worry about it. You are the one making assumptions. Not my problem.

  • Rip and tear. Dynamite. Etc etc,.

  • its wonderfully nostalgic,if we were all like this, standing hand in hand, what a wonderful world we would be in,dont you think?

  • i love this song its so true

  • The first time I heard this song I was 2 or 3 and it was the Hillside Singers version. I would dress up, use an old paper towel roll (pretending it was a microphone) and sing the song to my parents. Now I'm in my mid 30's but I stil love the song. I also remember when Coca-Cola had their commercial & people were singing it too.

  • its really helps me in my assignment tnx a lot....:D

  • i love this song

  • just to put it strait, new seekers did the coke jingle in 1970,then the hillside singers made a record of it in dec 1971,new seekers found out and polydor records rush released it in 2 days .new seekers were no1 all over the world selling 7 million with armfuls of gold discs except for america, because new seekers and hillside singers were both in the charts together seekers no7 hillside no15. fact.

  • @Zanator1 Why would you write that? Are you a neo-Nazi or something?

  • @7beers NAH... Nazism is dead, no matter what those hippyes who claim to be naizs do... I was jokeing.... Nyuk nyuk nyuk...

  • Sorry to break your bubbles guys, but the original band for this song is NOT The New Seekers but rather, by a band called Hillsides Singers.

The New Seekers sung the reworked version of it.

  • Sorry to break your bubble but who had the hit with it, admittedly not the clowns that are going around now but neither was it the Hillside singers. (not the Hillsides!!!!

  • Stop fighting children. Both versions were recorded in the same week.. Hillsides won the race to release it first. Both records reached the same position on the charts. Hillside Singers just got there first. Personally, I peferred the Hillside's version. Sounds more like the commercial.. and even includes the slogan.. " It's The Real Thing! "

  • new seekers did the coke jingle then this single which was on polydor in the uk then eve graham of new seekers did the 83 xmas jingle.

  • Can anyone answer this? Coke did the 1971 commercial and they eventually made this single it was so popular. Coke then (to my knowledge brought back a re-made Christmas commercial in 1983/84 Christmas seasons. But some are saying the 83/84 version is actually from the 70s? Can anyone confirm this?

  • i dont remember but wikipedia has the answers, serach wikipedia.

  • I've always liked this song!

  • This was popular the year I graduated from college. It was a time when we actually thought peace could be achieved worldwide. I remember listening to this and then hoping on my Honda 450 loaded down with all my stuff and riding home to Louisville from Baltimore. It's a very strong memory. What great sound from the New Seekers.

  • Great comment, best wishes to you!

I don't know if the original video has been created yet. I suspect it never will be.
