  • This song could not explain me any better.... Turning 27 in April, and leaving for the long run in May to the hills of Fairbanks, AK..... sigh...

  • I'll be with you soon, john....I love the wilderness and my animals...Later brother.

  • Coming home to a place he'd never been before.

For me, it was the Florida Keys, rather than the mountains of Colorado, but the sentiment is the exact same.

  • he was born in the summer 27th year

  • Omg..... I just love his songs

  • Oh BrownBear,what's wrong with Aus,beautiful country,same as Canada..:))

  • @MrHjarvis canada is just a rich place it's not fun and awesome like !COLORADO! :)

  • When John Denver died, music died with him.

  • such an amazing guitar player, singer. this song gives me chills.

  • John Denver will always hold a very special place on my heart, and this song is truly one of his best

  • Merry Christmas my dear departed father who loved John Denver and passed his love to me.

  • @renewd My grandpa loved John's music the same way. Rest in peace to both. :)

  • my dad always wanted to go there but he passed .love u dad miss u .god rest your soul .rip .

  • @laurie52462 he may have passed but he will always be with you so why dont you go knowing that he will be there with you :)

  • @ilovemaglue God bless you John Denver. Thank you for lifting our spirits and engaging our higher selves with your higher vibration music. Sorry to see you go in such a random mannor. You have blessed me.Humbly , Namaste!

  • @laurie52462 he should have gotten bairred there!

  • Colorado: No Better Place

Thank you God for creating such a beautiful place. And thank you God for creating John Denver so I can enjoy this ah-mazing song about my favorite place in the world.

  • My favorite song of all time!!!!!!!!!

  • Not bad, but it aint New England.

  • I really miss the rockies, they should have been my home a century ago...

  • Having visited Colorado for the first time last year, all I can say is pictures can't do it justice. It is breathtakingly beautiful!

  • im a rocker at heart..but how i love this dude...his chord changes are so hard in this song..i try....and to sing it at the same time....wow hard......but this song is awesome

  • I was baptised a Mormon, in the summer of my 27th year, and I drove across colorado, on my own for the first time and for the first time in my life, I listened to the lyrics.

  • This is all I dream about. I am 17 years old, I have only 15,000 dollars in my name. Both my parents are divorced. I have gone back and forth at both houses, and now both of them have kicked me out. They just don't understand me or marijuana use. They seem to hate everything I do. This song connects to me. I want to be born again, and see these beautiful mountains. I'm ready to be born again, even though the ones that raised me don't care.

  • @mossStains400 I wouldn't worry about doing the road trip thing. 15k will buy you plenty more weed and you can just stay in your friend's basement and play video games. Since you'll seldom do laundry, have a plan B ready for when you get kicked out because of the odor. As for your parents, they don't really hate you. They just resent the fact that when you came along they had to give up all there dreams and live in a trailor.

BTW - Be sure to check out my band's new Country Roads video!

  • @crossblades400 ~You sound like a poet at heart, a free spirit - it is hard to tie those kinds of people down. Parents have ideals and dreams when it comes to their children. I'm willing to bet you don't fit into your parents mould that they made for you, or thought they did. Do something great with your life, don't give in or give up and show your parents that just because you didn't become what they wanted - you DID become a better person in the end.

~Blessing to you on your journey~

  • I'm thai and I never go to Rockie Mountain. But this song made me think of home. I wish that I'll leave from Bangkok and return to Chiang Mai my home again. ( T-T )

  • The Colorado Rockies are my favorite places of all I've seen. Unfortunately, all those new scars upon the land broke my heart the last time I was there. I don't go there to see condos!

  • I was a big city kid, and yet I grew up hearing this song. I can only imagine the things he sings about.

  • Honest and simple music. I just love it.

  • I'll never forget how he fought against censorship back in the 80's, and I consider this song the antidote to the "27 club", and to people everywhere who think life isn't worth living.

  • My father used to sing this to me when I was a small child. Never did I appreciate it more than I do now.

  • Approaching the age of 50 I have always held dear to "Folk Music" because it tells an honest story/tale of life. As a "Rock-n-Roll" teenager in the 70's I have always enjoyed John's music. Thank You John...R.I.P.

I only hope before we meet...I experience the Rocky's that you sing about.

  • As a native Coloradoan, this chokes me up a little every time I hear it. The line, "more people, more scars upon the land" makes me sad because it's so true.

  • 10 years gone now and it feels like yesterday. I'll never forget rolling out of Banff taking a last look at the mountains as I went east. Man, I miss the mountains. I well and truly pity anyone who's never experienced the beauty of the Rockies. Need to get back there and get my soul free.

  • 21 dislikes you are losers.

  • Makes me think of my precious sister. This was her favorite song. I lost her 6 years ago. I love this song.

  • absolutely breathtaking!!! miss you johnny boy

  • They played this and my grandfathers funeral.

He died of cancer before I existed.

    .R.I.P. Bill <3

  • I went to study abroad in Australia for 6 months. I was born in Colorado and never knew what I had right in front of me until it was gone. Take me Home!

  • @BrownBear53CO

Yeah, but remember to enjoy what Australia can offer you ! :)

  • R.I.P. mama <3

  • 21 people have never left the east coast.

  • @TAYLORFAN50 21 people hate puppies too i bet

  • Went to Colorado this past summer to see Stevie Nicks at Red Rocks.....what a majestic place...so beautiful!

  • "I thought the rockies would be a lot more rockier than this...that John Denver was full of shit"- Dumb and Dumber

  • DEATH IS NOT THE END MAYBE IT WILL SO GET YA SO WATCH OUT CAUSE YOU DON'T WANT TO FUCK WITH THAT MACK DADDY!.

  • @ladiesman22 Haha He did right an amazing song when he wrote this, but "knew what he was talking about" might be a bit off kilter. He might of been high in the Rocky Mountains during this one :)

  • My father, a country boy from Minnesota, died in 1994. He always spoke of John Denver as having the purest voice he'd ever heard. My father taught me the love for a simple country song and an intense love for nature, so the song and these images brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.

  • @NatureGirl62 Sorry about your Father. John Denver had a pure, naturally cheerful voice, more than that he always sang in a major, or sharp key. So even his sad songs had a feeling of hope, and even cheerfulness. There are still very beautiful places off the beaten path in Colorado. I hope you can enjoy them. Regards.

  • I've only been there a few times, but I LOVE the Denver scenes... so AMAZING!!!

  • I TRULY LOVE COLORADO,BAR NONE!!!!!

  • Hell of a place for a conversation that has NOTHING to do with the content of this page. Why don't you guys go to CNN or somewhere else instead of spoiling this page with your irrelevant banter, for Pete's sake!

  • @cleekmaker00 well said. I'd think something like a john denver song would be a place that's away from this kind of immaturity, but I guess not.

  • @cleekmaker00 *John's sake*

  • I am speechless.

  • @colbertnation1776 - You are wasting your breath/keystrokes! If gave you an adrenaline shot; you'd be riding high alright, but the downside would be that you'd never be able to attain that great feeling again by doing anything as simple as taking a shot. That "high" feeling referenced in the song's better than the shot, but for somebody who's not willing to put in the effort necessary to achieve it, simply "getting high" is a more attainable and realistic goal, albeit unsatisfying.

  • do we really want all this to disappear within the next decade? STOP CLIMATE CHANGE AND POLLUTION! EVERY BIT COUNTS!!!

  • @gearsofwar2pwnfest - Impossible to stop climate change. Stopping pollution is grand idea, but a pipedream nonetheless. My car emits pollution, flushing my toilet creates pollution, and eating anything from a store generates pollution in the form of packaging. You can't save the world, but you might--just MIGHT--be able to save yourself and your family.

  • @HomelessOnline .... are you kidding? way to be a pessimistic you old timer. The facts support that we can greatly reduce our pollution and Carbon output if we all do simple little things like switching to LED lights or fluorescent lightbulbs. Try to have a bit of a better outlook on life you debbie downer.

  • @gearsofwar2pwnfest - I'm no old-timer, my brain's just started working like a well-oiled machine! You think switching light bulbs will reduce pollution? I disagree, but then I didn't grow up on "the world's gonna be destroyed if we don't do something! right now!" cartoons of the 80's, As far as a better outlook on life: I'm a conservative pro-American American, NONE have a better outlook on life (or a more realistic expectation of others) as people like me. Again! You can't save the world...

  • @HomelessOnline oh your a "pro-american american" so basically, you have got your head up your own ass and fail to see anyone's point other than your own? Ok way to be a pro-american american buddy. Take it to the grave with you when you die at age 50 from obesity with 6 obese children that they will not see past the age of 30 because there will be crazy weather and intense storms every other week. Great job man way to be smarter than everyone else.

  • @gearsofwar2pwnfest - Not sure how "pro-American American" translates to those things you listed. It seems you're full of assumptions about Americans. I have no doubt that my children will live past 30, global warming won't affect any of us seriously, and crazy weather is the norm here in America. Fact: the U.S. has the craziest weather on earth. I don't use intelligence as a weapon, but I have learned that weak minds--usually young ones--are easily sucked into "end of the world" scenarios.

  • @HomelessOnline Are you that stupid? Have you ever read a book or passed eighth grade? From 1950-1960 there were less than 7 major hurricanes that hit the U.S. From 2000-2010 there were over 20 major hurricanes that hit the U.S. So your trying to tell me that this doesn't have anything to do with humans, and there is nothing we can do to stop it. Your the epitome of people who think "Oh its not my fault I can't do anything about it so I'm gonna pretend it doesn't exist. Grow a pair and help out!

  • @gearsofwar2pwnfest - Yawn! 7 major hurricanes in 10 years, then 20 major hurricanes in 10 years 50 years later. So what? Weather's unpredictable. Any evidence hurricanes are caused by mankind, or even of AGW? No, I don't believe the number of hurricanes has anything to do w/humans. I see you went straight to insults, which all leftists do, no surprise there. Here's my idea: you save the planet, I'll do something constructive. Let me know when you're done, Komrade! And look up "Useful Idiot."

  • @HomelessOnline Learn some facts or read a book or something. You just have no evidence what so ever to back up your point you are just too ignorant to even carry out a real conversation with. Like i said, brush it off like your not the cause and push the problem on to some other generation, and I am from the United States just more of an educated part than your from apparently, what are you from Lousiana? Mississippi? North Dakota? Just taking a few guesses.

  • @gearsofwar2pwnfest - Sure, I'm as stupid as they come! CERN recently said global warming is caused by the sun (but tweren't come from no book!) All you have is insults, junior. Like I said: 1) you can't stop climate change, 2) you can't save the world but you might be able to save yourself and your family, 3) switching light bulbs won't save the environment 4) weather's unpredictable 5) no evidence of AGW 6) you are full of assumptions about all Americans. City kid, no doubt, brainwashed, too.

  • @HomelessOnline so.... you are from Lousiana then? And how many sources do you have? One? Two? Join the rest of everyone else and keep on pretending, and be sure to let me know when you wake up from that dream and realize that its your fault too for all the: animal extinctions, smog, melting ice caps and rising sea level. If you actually read my comment I am from America so I know the stereotypes are true, only further backed up by your ignorance to anyones point but your own.

  • @gearsofwar2pwnfest-Not sure how my location is relevant, but the fact that you think so says a lot. Now 'm responsible for animal extinctions, smog, melting ice caps and rising sea level? Whatever, I don't care. Besides, I'm responsible for the growing southern ice cap! Boys like you need therapy because of all the hand-wringing they do about the earth, but they never actually accomplish much with their lives. If I could read, what book would you suggest to help me come around to your side?

  • @HomelessOnline Dire Predictions, Degrees that Matter, Ignition and Farewell my Subaru are a few you should probably pick up.

  • this song is just undescribebly amazing

  • @colbertnation1776 - Then apparently you have a very limited intellect and narrow view of looking at the meaning behind an artist's lyrics. John Denver himself has even said that the song is not about drugs.

"Raining fire in the sky" - A METEOR SHOWER, SHIT FOR BRAINS.

"Friends around the campfire; everybody's high" - GOOD TIMES WITH GOOD FRIENDS, DUMB-ASS.

Open up your own drug-addled mind and realize that songwriters are poets and that NOT everything is literal.

  • @colbertnation1776 - I think you're incredibly wrong.

  • colorado i hear is beautiful so is montana. i live in the upper penesuila of michigan, i love it here,. we don't have as many mountains here, there are some. but we have lots of woods, and beaches, and of course lake superior. we do have some mountains but nothing like the rockies.

  • I really want to go to both Montana and Colorado. Both look so beautiful. I live in South Wales, UK and I've only ever been to the USA 3 times. 1 of which I remember well. It was in California and I got to see Yosemite. But I don't think it would be quite the same as the Rockies. I'm 15 now, but I've already decided it will be one of my life goals in the future to visit the two states.

  • sadly he was right, more people, more scars across the land... Sad to see it destroyed

  • This dude walks with the gods. I don't even recall listening to him much when he was alive. Then a musician friend tipped me back on to him, and it just seemed obvious. Some of his songs will be sung 50 years from now.

  • this song makes me want to go hiking

  • Such a great song, to start the week. We are leaving for Colorado the end of this week.

  • Your old soul will take you to amazing places.....

  • FINAL DESTINATION!!!

  • John Denver is more popular and has sold more music than you might imagine, just check the RIAA, Recording Industry Association of Americas, top 100 artists of all time, he's right at number 50.

  • Thumbs up if u heard this song on Final Destination

  • @taloncompany4ever Yup LOL, watching 'Final Destination' right now actually and it DID in fact bring me here today (as it has in the past).

But regardless of the movie, I've liked this song for over 35 years. :-)

  • I love this song! I am only 15, but it is one of my favorites! John Denver is amazing!

  • Sometime after his tragic daeth, I was eating in a Burger King on Chicago's Northwest side and started playing this song. Heard it dozens of times before. But at that moment it resonated to me so well. Loss of a great singer and songwriter! This is beautiful song!

  • I wonder how anyone could hit dislike on a song like this, that's warped, especially if you ever heard it in those mountains,on your own, and any of the things he is singing about-you have actually seen or experienced, yes including being high in those mountains, I guess like he says I guess those that hit dislike, have never seen an eagle fly. yes you would be a "poorman"thx jd.

  • I wonder if Bobby really ever did go visit that kid in Montana though... just wondering...

  • I got 2 versions of this song by John Denver.; Is this version an acoustic version, or, the original one, or, what?

megalodon406 has the other version I'm talking about.

  • Comment removed

  • This is the original hit version from the album Rocky Mountain High (believe it or not, a song this slow and beautiful could be a massive hit back in the 1970s). The one megalodon406 has is a live recording, which is more "punched up" compared to the original hit version. I *think* it may be the same recording as on The Wildlife Concert live CD, but if so, the audio quality is a bit lower than on the CD, so I'm not sure.

  • @tthomaselli2 Hi! I replied to you up above about the 2 versions, but it didn't mark it as a reply to you.

  • @NoisyDemocrat

What was your reply, then?; Please repeat it, again.

  • @NoisyDemocrat

Never mind the last comment I sent you.; I finally unraveled the mystery as to what the album was & which one was the life one. The live one came off of 'The Wild-Life Concert: 1995'. Thanks, anyways.

  • R.I.P John

  • all you have to do is listen... to one of the GREATEST VOICES of ALL TIME...

  • The twenty people who dont like this must be aliens!!

  • I love this song XD COLORADO!!!

  • This brings back a lot of memories of my dad. My dad loves listening to country music besides the 50's and 60's songs.

  • AWESOME!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!! I LOVE IT!!!

  • I AM A METAL HEAD, RAISED ON JOHN DENVER. AGAINST EVERYTHING, I HAVE TO SAY......ROCK ON MR.DENVER!!! I FIND PEACE IN HIS MUSIC......WHEN THE METAL DOESN'T WORK...LOL.

  • my mum's favourite song :)

  • I visit Colorado every year, and have been doing so for over 20 years, and every time the plane lands, I look out the window and my breath is taken away from me. I love Colorado. It is the most beautiful state on Earth.

  • Not only was I born and raised in Colorado, but my family goes back to the very beginning of it. My father and grandfathers were born there, I even have a great grandpa born there. No matter where you go, not just the mountains but the front range too is BEAUTIFUL. Denver, Arvada, Golden, Westminster, Loveland, Boulder, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, Estes Park.

  • Was in a John Denver mood. Yes, this is the best clearest rendition. And thank you for the beautiful photos.

  • @dornbrau Thanks! Can't wait to see it!

  • RIP JOHN UR MISS

  • i have lived in california all my life... i just got back from colorado and i must say it is such a beautiful state!!, i felt at peace there!!! i loved the nice mild weather and the fact it was hailing while the sun was out and 70 degrees... how awesome is that?? pretty damd awesome if you have never left cali!!!! i love you colorado!!!

  • @lancezimmerman I was born in California but don't remember living there. I did visit 2 times in my adult life and with the exception of the cities, found it quite beautiful in its own right. But it was nothing, in my opinion, compared to Colorado.

  • what a great ffffing song..

  • @Captain0Terror Favorite song since I first heard it decades ago.

  • @Captain0Terror Favorite song since I first heard it decades ago. This is also my favorite rendition.

  • VERY TRUE, HE WAS WASTED 90% OF THE TIME. A GROWN MAN ON THE MUPPETS AND TAKING LSD. WHAT A FREAK!!!

  • @Zaxxen69 You know how many famous people were on the Muppet show? people used to say you were not truly famous unless you were on the Muppet show or Sesame Street (both done by Jim Henson) Julie Andrews, Vincent Price, Mark Hamill, John Cleese, Alice Cooper, Bob Hope, Christopher Reeve, Peter Sellers, Paul Simon, Gene Kelly to just name a few. But then again your probably too young to know or remember any of these people.

  • HE TOOK SOO MANY DRUGS!!

  • To me John Denver's songs represent a better time in America...

  • John Denver knew what he was talking about when he sang this song.

    Absolutely stunning.

  • i dont not have a thing against colorada but you need to live in montana to get the real feel of western life. you can get back intot the small town cities where sir and ma'am are a way of life and holding open a door for somebody behind you is just a normal thing to you. and you will open and offer to help out a hand to anyone in need.

  • @kaychogsxr Oh Montana, one state I have always dreamed of visiting.

  • @dornbrau

I was stationed at Colorado Springs and know where a lot of these pictures were taken, but Montana will take your breath away. I was born and raised in the Spanish Peaks Range of Montana, and I always seem to find myself coming home..

  • @dornbrau Visit? I'm 23 and have lived here since I was born.

  • @kaychogsxr Ted Kaczynski didn't hold open any doors, he blew a lot of them up though.

  • Comment removed

  • @kaychogsxr What you describe, Colorado was. Sadly too many Coastal people moved here and brought their Coastal mentality with them. No more independence, and helpfulness to a stranger. They have made laws so you can not tell people stop breaking the law, which gave free reign for these 4 million in 20 years to destroy much of the state. With freedom come responsibility, if you abuse it you loose it. Lost it they did! while laughing. It got to be too much most natives I know left.

  • Can you love a place you've never been before? If so, I'm smitten. It looks breathtaking and peaceful. Someday soon....perhaps a family trip to Colorado is in our future, and I will appreciate and treasure the scenery even more firsthand! Thanks for the beautiful photos.

  • @kirkwood512 I can almost guarantee that you will not be disappointed. But stay away from the tourist traps. Point your nose towards the mountains, or the praries, and go.

  • @kirkwood512 One has not lived until he/she has seen the rockies!!

  • @kirkwood512 I love Colorado and I've never been there. I want to go there so bad.

  • @kirkwood512 ive never been there either, but my brother goes to collage there and everyday he calls me up and tells me how beautiful it is there. i am so jelous of him and i wish i could go there sometime soon.

  • with all the bull shit out there , and even though i been listening more metal and hard rock music over the years , i hope that in the the end i can just mello to rocky mt. high, been there, and hope i someday return. this song just really brings back memories of a better time and country

  • @Seph6000 WELL SAID.... and Thank You!

  • I visited Colorado 2 yrs ago for 3 days.....I live in Ontario Canada, which is beautiful country and I've been many places, not everywhere, but a lot of beautiful country..I've never been anywhere that was as breathtaking as CO....my goal is to retire there... ... 7 and a half more years...I can't wait....I want to climb mountains, hike trails , kayak, and breathe the air,,, I love that place ...I'll be back

  • Sorry contemporary nerds, but the bar of nerdy awesomeness is set almost impossibly high.

  • Thumbs up if you want to go hiking now...

  • I live in Colorado and i see this almost every day and hunt and fish is great up here come to colorado for nature

  • seriously how could anyone dislike this my god man do they have ears??????

  • @spockles Ears, perhaps. But clearly they are lacking souls.

  • I am sure it is beautiful in the Rockies. I have only seen it fron 30,000 feet and it is breathtaking even up there!!!!

  • I Lived in Denver,Colorado for 4 years in the late '70's early '80's...absolutely beautiful place. Was standing in line for a movie at Tamarac Square in s.e. Denver one sat. and JD was waiting with his kids and wife, just like everybody else. Very unasuming and humble. Whenever I hear this song I think about those times in the 'Mile High City'. RIP

  • FINALLY THE ORIGONAL! all the videos I click on are a different version of it. I like this one the best :)

  • I love to play guitar, and this song is an absolute thrill to play. The tempo and melody really moves the song along nice, and the lyrics are an interesting story about what life is like in Colorado. The song came out in 1973, and I still like it as much now as the first time I heard it.

  • Nice

  • Holy shit, what an awesome singer!

  • This is amazing!

  • Getting ready to move here in 6 weeks. BEAUTIFUL.

  • John hit #9 in Billboard, 3-3-73. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! RIP, Henry John.

  • Lack of oxygen from high altitudes makes things seem more interesting.

  • I got to spend a week in Denver, CO in 2008. Its breath taking that God created a place so beautiful for us.

  • I always think of my 6th grade teacher when I hear John Denver. He was a huge fan. I hope you're still listening, Mr. Webster, wherever you are these days.

  • Beautiful track. Beautiful countryside.Beautiful artist. RIP.

  • i know of 18 people that need to swing from a rope.

  • @peacefrogism Nah...he was amazing.

  • John Denver, one of the great voices of country music, although i've never been a country music listener, his music has always stayed in my head. I was a kid in 70's when all his songs were really popular, but Rocky Mountain High is my favriot becouse i own my own piece of heaven there and hope to retire there some day, and every time i take a trip colorado, i'le play this song over and over. It just makes me feel good, like i'm going home. MAY GOD BLESS YOU JOHN!

  • Subtle,dreamy,perfect....softer than a lullaby.

  • I just heard this when I dropped my girlfriend off at an airport. Think that's a problem?

  • WOW, just a beautiful video! Thank you for making it! :-)

  • I have lived in some of the most beautiful places in the world, to include Hawaii, but nothing compares to Colorado. It is easy to criticize if you have never been here, or have never ventured out to really live Colorado but to experience it is to understand the truth in the poetry of John Denver's words. It's not about drugs people, it's about living. It's about beauty. It's about America. It's about Rocky Mountain High~ come here and experience it~ there's no better high on earth!

  • @dornbrau

Lived here all 56yrs of my life. I wouldnt't live anywhere else. This is Heaven.

  • @MrBluesrules Tie-down roper William MacLeod, combine his of John Denver with rodeo and tie-down roping

  • @dornbrau. I too have lived in some of THE most beautiful places in the world to include Alaska. NOTHING , compares to the majestic beauty of America's Last Frontier / Land of the Midnight Sun. Colorado is a very distance second! Mt. McKinley / Denali (which means The Great One) towers over Pikes Peak.

  • @dornbrau. I too have lived in some of THE most beautiful places in to world to include Alaska. I currently live in Colorado Springs. Colorado pales in comparison and is a very distant second at best. There's a reason Alaska is called "The Last Frontier" and "The Land of The Midnight Sun!"

  • @dornbrau Sure, Pikes Peak is ok, but again doesn't compare to Mt. McKinley, or as the Natives call her "Denali" which means "The Great One!" Bald eagles, real BIG game, BIG fish and the friendliest people you'll ever meet. Oh and home of the REAL North Pole, home of the Big Man himself; Santa.

  • @dornbrau Ever been to the Kimberlies in NW Australia. The Aborigines say it speaks to you,and it does

  • @dornbrau very well said

  • @dornbrau I agree with you about the song and the experience of the outdoors. I have not been to Colorado just yet but would also include the New England region as one of the most beautiful places in the world. Each season here in breath taking just like Colorado. Best regards....

  • @jchez1965 I lived in Connecticut for 2 years and have to agree, New England is beautiful country.
