Almost three years ago, I accidentally attended David Holt concert in Asheville, North Carolina. I had never heard old time music before but I fell in love that day and every day since then I have fallen more in love with this music. Today I am an Appalachian ballad singer and clogger and dating an old-time fiddler. Almost every aspect of my life today is different and richer than it was before, and it's all because of this man who introduced me to this wonderful music. Thank you.
Full agreement here on the Omagh festival comments-Laura Boosinger and Josh Goforth are also fantastic performers in their own right. Hope they all come back again.
I think I speak on behalf of the people who attended David's performance here in Ireland, at the 19th annual Bluegrass Festival in Omagh, Co.Tyrone, and I would just like to say that it was one of the most impressive and passionate performances I've ever witnessed. I sincerely hope that was not the last time the people of Ireland hear David Holt live!
@TravelingFolkGuitar It's not often that acts get a full standing ovasion in the main marquee during the afternoon sessions, (at least I haven't seen so). So it would be a shame to think he won't be back, and I know again I would speak for all who attended. Professional, Encouraging, Contented are just some of the words to describe this man..
You're exactly right! But he's a real musician, and he appreciates all kinds of music, especially from doing this, so it's really great there are still people like this!
Wow, I used to watch David Holt as a kid at the Annual Tale Tellin' Festival down in Selma, Alabama, lots of festivals in the deep south during autumn. Fun times. He was my favorite. Most story tellers' stories were too scary, but David's songs, instruments and stories were always fun.
David is an American treasure of musical knowledge. He has done a great service in preserving these old songs. I met him at a concert with Doc Watson. If you get a chance to see him, Go.
I've had the pleasure of meeting David Holt on a couple of occasions and he never ceases to amaze me with his musical ability. After viewing this video, I'm convinced that Spike Jones has nothing on this man!
heh, i live in appalaciaand don't know where to get a mouthbow ;). However we havea lot of fleamarkets around "These parts" i spos'n i could find one if'n i wanted.
I live the Appalachians too and you can just make your own in ten minutes for less than 15 dollars. Look it up on google. They tell you the most popular ways of doing it.
@EvanChaim You mean Didgeridoo which is a wind instrument. The only similarity is that they both have a constant pitch
The mouth bow is more like the Jew's Harp which is smaller and uses a metal band instead of a string.
The didgeridoo has a much deeper resonance, it's an ancient instrument with deep spiritual significance goes back 50,000 or more years while this mouth bow is relatively new 200 years maybe and sounds more like a comedy prop.

Music transcend languages and time. It is comforting to know that the old is still alive, and the new is developing.
