  • ...I dont understand why people must overlap judgements - most of which are subjective or emotional commentary.

The Post Barrett Pink Floyd line up was a synestigistic success story. They got the writing, music, audio production, live show and even the album cover design spot on.

Pink Floyd like numerous other legendary bands that had important sustained output will still be played in 300 years time. Just like the classical masters are played today

  • I always hear people saying that Gilmour isn't a good performer, that he isn't a good showman, so what? I don't go to concerts to watch people jump around and dance, I go to HEAR the music. I guess all of you complaining that Gilmour isn't a good performer don't listen to CD's, I guess you found Pink Floyd on youtube and judged how good they were by how much movement the artist's did, as opposed to how good they sounded. You're a retard if you judge a concert by how much the musicians move!!!

  • It is the only concert in which "What God Wants (Part 3)" is performed live.

  • Part 3 is one of the greatest solos......just hate the way the song ends on ATD with the phone.......but still great to see this footage...

  • @666767 no, a RW show with JB joining in........very rare as I can't seem to find this show anywhere in my travels on the Net!?!!??

  • What a "FUCKING AMAZING ARTIST and HUMANITARIAN GENIUS!"

When is the WORLD going to Wake-UP!" before it truly is too late!" and understand "WHO OWNS/CONTROLS!" ALL OUR... MEDIA; MUSIC INDUSTRY: BANKING; GOVERNMENTS; FASHION; FOOD and virtually "EVERY Other Major Industry in the WORLD! WE "MUST" Come Together as "ONE UNITED VOICE" and "PUBLICLY EXPOSE" THESE LYING DECEIVING PARASITES ONCE AND FOR ALL!! If YOU Believe in "FREEDOM?" Then "Wake-UP!" and understand WHO'S ORCHESTRATING Its DEMISE!

  • I don't understand the constant desire by some to put down great artists whose shoes none of us is worthy to tie and it happens all over youtube. Gilmour is a great guitarist and a better singer than Waters. Waters is the better songwriter. Why trash Gilmour or Waters because one can do things better than the other? Together, they're even better....... if they can stand to be in the same room long enough...... Mr Grumpy Pants, as Gilmour refers to Waters :-)

  • i'm scared...................

  • Amused to death!!!!!!!

  • at 8 oh 5--bow down, a monster-god is amoungst U!!!

  • I agree with pathos--whomever puts Gilmour on Roger's level is flat out stupid and blind to the facts. Who wrote Darkside of the Moon. In a night. The entire albumn. Syd fell, Roger stepped up. Gilhore was the last in the band and obviously the weakest member. What do you want from me? Ummmm.. I am the best....Play like Jeff Beck you ungrateful twit. Roger is profound. The real deal.

  • OMG you guys realize its Terry Bozzio on the drums as well???????????

  • @ramchool The blond playing guitar behind Waters is Jennifer Batten

  • @ramchool That Cute Little Drummer!

  • no need to argue bout Waters vs. Gilmour,..did it for hours w/dozens of ppl.,and comes down to same thing, they both were better w/each other..and Waters a better writer/composer and Gilmour better performer..thats the crux of it..

  • @cykoaudio777 Gilmour is a better musician no doubt. But not a better performer. Roger actually puts a lot into his live performances whereas Gilmour just stands there. I would rather see a Roger Waters gig which is much more expressive, emotional and engaging rather than the ethereal soundscape and distanced experienced at a Gilmour concert.

  • @chriswhiting7 Yes I agree. I've seen them both in concert and I think that Roger Waters has a much better stage presence than Gilmour. Roger simply oozes the stuff that makes for an electric performance where with Gilmour one cannot tell there is a great person standing on stage. An old PF girlfriend of Syd said it best in an interview "David is nice and sweet and all that but lacks that certain je ne se quois which Syd and Roger had in abundance"

  • Actually, the video was made in 2002 (it's said in the info of the video), it is not the greatest quality, I agree, but - for freak's sake - it is a nice option for those who did not get a chance to see these two playing together (SO, THANKS FOR UPLOADING!). As for who sings best, well, that's only a matter of taste. Pathos remarks that the differences b/w Dave and Roger are sharp, well, perhaps that's what made PF remarkably different to what it was when they were without Roger.

  • Agreed 100% with PathosFilms on that on that.........

  • @Zettel9016 I think it's an Eastwood.

  • Does anybody know what kind of guitar Andy Fairweather-Low is using?

  • there is some really interesting guitar work on Waters solo albums, especially Amused to death and Pro's and cons of hitchiking

  • @progrockertom dude, it's jeff beck (amused to death) and eric clapton (the pros and cons of hitch hiking) you're talking about. hell yeah guitar works are interesting.

  • @npyx Yeah I know who plays on it, very intersting, some of Claptons best work post-cream era, and it goes without saying Beck plays a blinder

  • @progrockertom actually it's also interesting that these badass guitarists' contributions are amazing in roger water's albums. when there's a strong concept, shaping musical ideas becomes easier, i suppose.

  • jeff beck's performance is SO annoying. ok, he is a great guitar player und plays some awesome solos. but he doesn't seem to give a shit about interacting with the audience or creating some kind of connection with it. he should have stayed in the studio.

  • @Abglanz you don't know shit man.

  • @kevoishere1

    your point reeks of validity.

  • @Abglanz That's because Jeff's a MUSICIAN and not an ENTERTAINER. He interacts with the other musicians and the music. Also, since he's backing Roger, he probably doesn't want to steal attention.

  • @garmonbozia318 fair enough. but since this concert was called "jeff beck & friends", I expect more from him. if he stood in the back or only looked at his guest musicians during the whole show, I would have been disappointed.

  • I love the way this album opens. You hear the guy reciting the tragic war story of Bill Hubbard and then you hear some stupid kid saying "oh I don't mind the war, that's one thing I like to watch". Like, damn, that's what it really seems like now.

  • this is roger water's best album........and perhaps the reunion/comeback album that pink floyd should have made but never did......

  • @VUPdingCLICK i agree with you being "amused to to death" the best album. but i believe that it's a fortunate thing roger made this album with other good musicians like jeff beck or graham broad. now we have both this album and the division bell. however, if amused to death were made as a reunion album of pink floyd, i think it could be the best album floyd ever did and it would have a much bigger commercial success. maybe sometimes things are better the way they are.

  • @npyx It is what it is. I look at it this way, we got twice as much output from Waters and Gilmour. Its all great.

  • Comment removed

  • Got to say, as a guitarist of over 30 years - and someone who has listened to a lot of solos - the solo inWGW Pt3 here ranks as one of my all time faves - it's a shame the audio quality here is so poor, but check out the album version (on youtube) ...technique wise, JB throws everything & the kitchen sink in there. A stonker.

  • it's too bad JB is so low in the mix on this. anyone know of any good live recordings from this run? there are other vids that are mildly better for the mix, imo.

to all the haters: if your purpose is to slam people you've never even met or even laid eyes on wake up. this is your life, do something with it.

  • This is a great song by one of the best albums of all time!!! Amused to Death is the shit! Jeff Beck is totally amazing, but David Gilmour will always be my favorite guitar player of all time. By his own admission, there are many guitarists that can play circles around him, but that's not what it's all about. David Gilmour prefers a hauntingly beautiful melody to a quick run through a scale.

  • most of the comments state only 1 thing: "I have my right to speak freely"

  • My humble opinion. If Beck had joined the PF we know & love could never had happened. It would have become. Beck was too big and would have smothered it. PF became the way the did because they 'grew musically' together. Waters ego eventually took over, but Becks ego would have forced the others to follow him with , probably, a MUCH earlier bust up between him & Waters. Gilmour, being a relative unknown, developed, along with the band.

This must have been a great show.

  • Jeff Beck puts Gilmour to shame. You can't even compare them.Gilmour is good, but Beck is a GOD

  • @PsychoRaii WOW! U said that, really??? I LOVE Beck... TOTALLY DIFFERENT to DG... Ignorant Fuck... Comparing guitarists is like fingerfucking through panyhose.. totally fucking useless!!!

  • @PsychoRaii Different styles, bro. Totally different styles.

  • @PsychoRaii

sorry but i disagree,Gilmour played the second best solo ever,COMFORTABLY NUMB.

  • God-Like. What Roger wants, Roger gets.

  • Beck shines on this one.

  • Incredible song.Incredible performance (but the sound is a big letdown).AMUSED TO DEATH WAS ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS OF THE 90"s!This doesn't do it justice but it is a treat. Thanks!

  • *However*, I think we can all agree that the skills Waters and (in particular) Gilmour had complemented each other very well, and that together they produced superior music than either of them accomplished apart.

Post-Waters Floyd is good in patches, but has its poor moments, but then I think I'd say the same thing about Waters' solo stuff too. If I had to choose between them, I'd lean towards Gilmour - his guitar means more to me than Waters' lyrics. Tough call, though.

  • Waters brought to Pink Floyd a real cutting edge, especially lyrically and conceptually, but Gilmour and Wright were musical heart of the band. Even in songs given credit only to Waters, you can hear the influence of the others (especially Gilmour). If you don't believe me, listen to the demo of, say, Money and then the final article and tell me that was all Roger's doing. Floyd had a rule that writing credits went to lyricist and top-line melody creator. But much more goes into a song than that

  • Nice

  • Haha I swear Jeff is just itching for his cue there!

  • Wasn't Jeff Beck given some consideration to join Pink Floyd after Syd Barret's decline? Beck is a fantastic guitarist but Gilmour could sing too!

  • @DasGoldenBoy They didn't need another guitarist. They needed a songwriter and singer. That's where Gilmour and Waters stepped in. Unfortunately it took them a few albums to find the sound. By that time, Roger had taken most of it over. Good but bad. Gilmour has a beautiful guitar sound. They worked well until Roger's Dad took over.I would have LOVED to see the DarkSide tour with Beck!

  • @DasGoldenBoy Gilmour was a guitar player... not so much a songwriter. Brilliant guitar sound. I could pick him out in any guitar noise crowd, but listen to "A Momentary Lapse of {talent}" and you can hear a huge difference.

  • @strummer77clash I'm not bashing Gilmour, he isn't known as a songwriter but he has written songs. He and Rick Wright did solo projects away from Pink Floyd in the 1970's. That alone shows there was a rift of sorts with Roger before The Wall and The Final Cut. All I was saying is Jeff Beck was given the offer to join Pink Floyd after Syd Barrett became an acid casualty. Thankfully he declined and David Gilmour was given the chance to join and the rest is history. Shine On!

  • @DasGoldenBoy I didn't take it that way at all. I was bored last night and rambling. Everyone from PF did a great job through their entire careers, especially Syd... he started a whole new music. I'm just partial to Roger. I was very happy to see the reunion at Live 8 before Rick Wright passed. Beck, in those days, didn't have the right sound for Floyd. But he sure plays well with Roger!

  • Dogs on the Animals album where sung by Gilmour!

  • Roger was the genious of the band by far. Gilmour had to hire people to help him compose and multiple studio musicians to try to recreate PF sound. Mason did not even play the drums on a lot of the songs of a momentary lapse of reason album because he was out of form. So much for the complains about Waters' demands of PF members.

  • @gozaderadrfunk AMEN

  • I love AMUSED TO DEATH. One of the best rock albums ever!

  • Die Konzerte von Roger Waters sind einfach gut.

  • In my opinnion Roger Waters continues the legacy of Pink Floyd, pushing outfront and revealing disturbing problems of man and society, just like Pink Floyd did with The Wall and The Final Cut. Roger Waters' Amused to Death is simply superb. He is a lousy vocalist, but that simply doesn't matter, the message comes through untainted. And I may also say that Pink Floyd wasn't the same without Waters, it had lost its essence somehow. Every member of PF counted, equally but in different matters.

  • Pink Floyd was 4 guys making music together not just Roger Waters bragging about how great he is. Gilmour and Wright made a huge impact in PF, why do so many people forget that??

  • the spirit of PF have a name: Roger Waters

  • well this is a gr8 song but the video sucks!!! what the hell?its recorded with a phone came? :S

  • @Boghos89 Yes. With a phone cam. In 1992. He also streamed it Live on the net back then and twittered during the concert. Apparently, he was then also bidding on an Ipad 2 on ebay.

  • @dietervanmarcke LMFAO

  • @dietervanmarcke Thank you for posting! he didn't play this song in Los Angeles. This version is just plain awesome! Funny, quoth Zappa via Bozzio roughly 25 years previous, "Ive heard a rumor he's more fluid than Jeff Beck"!

  • Well it's better that way because it's Jeff Beck who recorded the album amused to death with Roger Waters.

  • What?!? Ol' Rog couldn't get Clapton to play with him?

  • Two of my favourite musicians on stage together. I adore both Roger Waters and Jeff Beck. I think you did a pretty good job of recording this. But the album is truly a work of genius. Fantastic!

Thanks so much for posting this.

  • Too much of an eccentric and nuanced sound to capture on a YouTube vid.

    But an "A" for effort.

  • Waters reminds me of Lurch. That said he is the heart and soul of floyd. Gilmore/Barret are great but waters voice rings true. Gotta love beck, I love the non-picked sound.

  • roger waters is pink floyd

  • WAS PART of Pink Floyd.

  • You sir are dumb. Waters sang a lot. Listen to the Wall album. Almost 80% is him singing. About 80% of Animals was all sung by him as well. He sang a few songs from Pipers at the Gates of Dawn as well. Know your Floyd facts before saying anything.

  • You forgot the final cut wich he's the only one singing apart from not now john (Gilmour) like marek said...

  • @PathosFilms Waters did sing a fair bit of Floyd... poorly. Well, in his own distinctive way, anyway.

And off the wall, Gilmour sings in The Thin Ice, Brick 2, Mother, Goodbye Blue Sky, Young Lust, Hey You, Comfortably Numb, The Show Must Go On, Run Like Hell, Waiting for the Worms, off the top of my head. So to say "80%" is a bit of a stretch.

  • @tfn105 except run like hell, you mean

  • @OfficialNeilGard You're correct. It's on the live album that he trades vocals with Waters.

  • @OfficialNeilGard My mistake - I tend to listen to the 'Is There Anybody Out There' version more than the album where they share the vocals live (sounds better for it too!)

  • @PathosFilms Absolutely correct, pal.

  • @PathosFilms The ones who know the least about Pink Floyd are the ones who started listening to Floyd with the last two Watersless albums and think that Gilmour was the man. Don't get me wrong, I like Gilmour, but he is a bit overrated. Roger was the man of PF. To me the best guitarist/composer in pro rock is Andrew Latimer from Camel. There was talk at one point of him joining forces with Roger, but that fade away.

  • @PathosFilms But Gilmour is a far better singer than Waters. Its actually kinda funny when you listen to The Wall and Animals, the contrast is so sharp between the two. Look up the live video of Gilmour performing Shine on You Crazy Diamond, the way he sings it is much better than Waters ever did.

  • Waters sang quiet a bit...All of The Final Cut minus Not Now John, a majority of The Wall, two songs on Dark Side, four songs on Animals, two songs on Wish You Were Here...one song on Atom Heart Mother...

  • @15mmarek Roger sang only one tune on Wish You Were Here which was Shine On (split in two parts). David Gilmour sang most of tunes on albums up to Wish You Were Here. Even Rick Wright sang as well. Roger's voice was main voice on Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut.

  • @floydgenesisnut I'm pretty sure 15mmarek was counting Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1 and 2) as two different songs.

  • LIstening to this album (amused to death) is like an epiphany

  • I agree.

  • Have to Agree - it's always the album I turn to when I think the world is a bit mad but others aren't seeing it!

  • Agreed. I saw Gilmour at the RAH and the sound on the concert DVD a) was better and b) his guitar sounded COMPLETELY different. Live his tone was a dissapointment. Was some over dubbing.

  • es un moustro de lo mejor del mundo!

  • never trust a bass player.

  • good groove

  • non siete mai dolci dolci sempre un po' duri nelle musiche closed the door

  • david guilmore would love to write such a song

  • This is too bad! you can tell its an amazing performance, but its really tooo much sound for a non professional microphone to grab. I would pay good money for anyone who recorded this off straight from the board!

  • is walters doing the moon dance

  • this is excellent brilliant bravo 1000 stars********

  • dave gilmour, eric clapton, jeff beck. whos left to do an album with?!!! im sure he'll find someone hopefully gilmour

  • well, there's always me :-)

  • ha we all dream

  • Me, but also Jimmy Page. Keith Richards, Iommi, Krieger, Townsend, etc.

  • i can see roger working with townsend page would be pretty interesting Iommi that would be very strange but very cool

  • Keith Richards would be cool too, or Joe Perry.

  • is that a Jennifer Batten?

    plz reply!

  • yes, I can tell by the way she holds her guitar.

  • ha ha is that jennifer batten back there too!

    lol

  • Yeah, the audio sucks, but it's still sick.

  • Can you record it next time then... thanks ;)

  • two of my legendary heroes together playing a legendary song

  • Genius!!!

  • What a treat: I thought Roger toured with Clapton, not Beck. Cool song.

  • Roger toured with clapton for the pros and cons of hitch hiking tour, but with beck for the amused to death tour.

  • There wasn't an Amused to Death tour. This was the only time he performed this song live, at least that's been recorded.

  • There was an In the Flesh tour, wchich could be considered as Amused to Death tour.

  • It was never considered. ATD is a semi-conceptual album, if there was ATD tour, it would be performed in it's entirety, not just 4 songs (except WGW performed several times).

  • Who here is over 21 years old?

    Just asking///

    -BlackAdder

  • I am :)

  • Thunder Fingers was terrific. Roger Waters writes all the Lyrics, you know nothing.....DUDE.

  • W G W 1,2 & 3

very brilliant song/theme - as told(fitted perfectly well in album)

never seen videos of anyting since pulse really?????

go buy it on CD(I still got the tape *:o - well recommended

    effervesing elephants - anyone ??

  • I just love the guitar solo in WGW part 3. Bravo Mr. Waters!

  • this disc is the BEST of roger .incredible este disco es el mejor de roger, increible.POHIKJ KERDAS DISC TY ROGER,YUIPOLIJ.çer DISC ERT MERS ROGER,FILION

  • Waters was just in Palm Beach recording with Clapton. I wonder how that will turn out.

  • recording what?

  • Recording for Waters new album.

  • i absolutely love jeff beck, but...

man, what a fantastic duo of egotism

  • itzjoeymac (1 month ago) Show Hide -1 Marked as spam Reply | Spam This is such a powerful song. Too bad all of the Floyd could not have been involved WITH JEFF BECK! They actually wanted Beck after Syd Barrett died but they "didn't have the guts to ask him." What a band that might have been!!!

Actually roger did ask and jeff declined!!

try an get yer facts right people ;)

  • 2002.09.12 : Career Retrospective Concert at Royal Festival Hall, London, England. - Lineup: Jeff Beck, Terry Bozzio, Jennifer Batten, Roger Waters, Andy Fairweather Low... It's unbelievable!!!!!

  • Ain't that Jennifer Batten playing rhythym guitar??? WOW... what a line-up! Roger is the best lyricist on EARTH and among the very best composers.

  • If Roger had hired a singer like Paul Carrack to go with Jeff Beck, this would have been a multi-platinum album. I also believe that 'Momentary Lapse of Reason' by the so-called Floyd would've been completely disregarded if they'd not had 'PINK FLOYD: THE NAME.' Still, I did love 'Dogs of War' by Gilmour-Floyd and their stage show and playing were perfect if not INNOVATIVE like Roger Waters and Jeff Beck.

  • This is such a powerful song. Too bad all of the Floyd could not have been involved WITH JEFF BECK! They actually wanted Beck after Syd Barrett died but they "didn't have the guts to ask him." What a band that might have been!!!

  • yea ur right, except i believe u ment when syd went insane not died, but yea i dont kno y ppl r booing u

  • jeff beck + roger waters is probly the closest thing to magic on earth

  • Yeah, closest thing to David Gilmour + Roger Waters, which is the closest thing to magic you can get. Add Richard Wright and you've got magic, along with ol' Nick of course!

  • Yes - true. I wish Waters had toured with Beck for the most recent series of shows. The lead guitarist - Dave something - was utterly boring and derivative of Gilmour. Saw them twice here in the San Francisco Bay Area and both times he really dumbed down what were otherwise great shows.

  • Dave Kilminster. I agree, the guy is not as good as Doyle Bramhal II.

  • One thing Roger seems to be losing his touch for is chosing guitarists to tour with him, and when he has quality players like Andy Fairweather-Low and Snowy White, he sticks them behind showoffs like Doyle Bramhall II or Dave Kilminster. I'd far rather see a stoic performance with some feeling behind the music than the shameless display we usually get from these guys. Maybe I'm missing their ability, but I genuinely don't understand their appeal as guitarists.

  • totally agree i mean snowy white played the have a cigar solo with PINK FLOYD yet on the last tour dave killiminster did the solo and then dave killiminster shine on you crazy diamond again something snowy played with PINK FLOYD

  • watch jeff play cause we've ended as lovers with clapton and bramhal and then tell me doyle's better.

  • It's too bad the sound sucks so bad you can hardly understand anything

  • also saw mr.waters and it's the best thing that ever happened to me.

black bass and white guitar? they rock.

  • You must have better eyes than me but, It sure looks like Bozzio's crazy "Attacking the drums" style

  • Is that Bozzio palying drums???

  • class

  • There aren't words to describe it.

    It's its own catagory.

  • Most amazing man on earth

  • Absolutely true, my friend. Powerful music and words. We need more guys like R Waters in this world without conscience.

  • Killer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i've seen mr waters live in malta the best concert i've ever seen

  • Amused To Death is a great disc...powerful and hard-hitting.

  • Great piece of work. Not very good sound but the song is awsome specially the message and Beck guitar sound.

  • These songs are of the best from Roger Waters solo stuff, they're amazing! But is there any pro-shot footage of these songs played live..? I can't find any...

  • There is a DVD called 'in the flesh' available. Shot in HD, great sound.... but no Jeff Beck. Still great guitar playing though.

  • Oh man...How i wanted to see em both perform this song live.AWesome Jeff Becj meets RogerWaters=Magic.

  • Ia what year was recorded this video

  • This was 2002.

  • oh thanks...in 2003 i see roger in Milan..in 2006 in Verona and this year in milan again...beautyfull

  • where and when was that?????????

  • he he... I guess there's a reason why Roger very rarely performs What God Wants 3 live - he wrote a piece that was too difficult for him to sing ;-) But it's a great song though and his performance of it on the album is amazing. My register isn't that big...

  • this is one of my fav tracks on the amused to death cd! Roger Waters is such a genius!
