When I said 'socially' I meant that most people still have their families and they are generous towards each other. In the end they were not hurt socially. If you take away the extreme cases, the social damage was nothing. It is nothing to put your hand up at the right time and parrot the words you supposed to say, which by all accounts is what they did.
I met 1000's of Russians and none of them have any experience with Gulags or assassinations. It happened, but it was not 'in your face'.

I don't praise communism. I'd hate to be as poor as Russians and I saw first hand how little they care about their work and what communism and the fall of communism did to them.
It didn't hurt the people socially. I found most Eastern block countries friendly and fun, and Russia was safer then most, plus I liked it there because I had a nice girlfriend.

But one thing I can say for sure is our IWC delegates were left out of the meeting and they were not happy about the conclusion. I'll make a deal with you:
You round up all the Native Americans still alive today and campaign for them to be allowed to reclaim 100% of the United States. Then allow them to perform retributive genocide on all the nations of Europe in compensation.
Once you're done with that do the same thing with every African American in this country. Allow them to pillage and enslave all Caucasians here and in Europe and use it to rejuvenate Africa.
Then I'll agree the Makah should be allowed to whale.

good video...I can see the irony of this particular situation very well. But I call myself a liberal and have no shame in it.
I wonder if the environmentalists who wanted whale hunting to stop knew of this siutation. I wonder if they'd really let the whales take priority over the tribe. They probably overlooked the tribe, which is still bad, but I'm not sure they realized the irony of this.
Being a liberal doesnt equal being full of double standards and contradictions-anyone can have those.

THe man in video is offending the Makah tribe. Several whale killers defied the tribe's elders to kill one. They did not obey the tribal council or honor the tribe. The Native Makah tribal council rejects these whale murderers, and the person propaganda buster is offending Makah tribe and natives by honoring those who went against the will of the Makah people and killed a whale unauthorized by the elders! Shame on this man PropagandaBuster! This video is insult to Native makah tribe!

well that's an inside story that he probably wasn't aware of...his point was that the government shouldnt be allowed to tell native americans what to do-whether it's to hunt whales or not hunt them-they should be able to make that decision on their own-he was not aware of the inside story.
White people usually like to ignore inside stories when it comes to Native Americans...we like to speak for Native Americans instead of listen to what they really have to say.
