  • I listen several performances of this piece, and this performance still remains the best performance in me. This performance is available in "Benny Goodman Collector's item."

  • @shilohmsp try boulez and mccoy tyner or wayne shorter

  • Yes, I am billinrio "from demonoid" (as well as other places on the net).

  • in fact, Benny Goodman didn't appear at the April 13, 1940 Library of Congress concert, in which Szigeti and Bartok played

Bartok's Rhapsody # 1 for Violin and Piano, and his Second Sonata for Violin and Piano, as well as the Debussy Sonata for Violin and Piano in g minor.

The recording of Contrasts was made in 1940 as well, but in NYC.

  • @billinrio Thanks for the information, but I can't stop myself from asking - are you billinrio from demonoid?

  • If I'm not mistaken, this performance was part of a live concert at the Library of Congress.

  • Fantastic!!! To my uneducated ears, reminds me of Stravinski about 2 min. in

  • It is fascinating to visualize the recording session in your minds' eye. What would be the equivalent repertoire and performer combination be today? Yo Yo Ma and Bobby McFerrin maybe? But the composer-performer?

  • John Addams, Wynton Marsalis and Kissin jamming is about as close as we could hope for. but it will never happen.

  • interesting, realy interesting... never heard before. thanks!

  • I can't believe this recording exists! awesome.

  • Wow!

    Thanks for posting this.

  • An exceptionally interesting blending of venues. All were indeed great musicians.
