  • ...I prefer they can sing in Chinese, no matter mandarin or shanghainese...but not sth I can even get a word (maybe it's shanghainese...sorry if so). Song with native tongue expresses the singer better.

    唱点中文歌吧,这个姐姐唱的我一个词都听不懂,是上海话?还是洋泾浜?

  • ...I meant I can't even get a word...my fault.

  • I've been to that tshirt shop, kicking myself for not buying anything there

  • it's near "new jing jiang" hotel on that street where all the shops selling knockoff brand names are.

  • i love popil's work!! this music is pretty catchy too! :D

  • Cool! Great playing. The venue looks fun all around. And, yep, love the revolving t-shirt rack.

  • They are really cool! and I want that rotating t-shirt rack!

  • ha, maybe theres a dry clean shop down stairs

    I like it

  • Thanks for posting! Have been fan of them for several months! :D They're really good. :) The last song, "Pretty Stranger" is my favorite.

  • Cultural question here, and please, by all means, excuse my ignorance. Has China fully accepted Western pop music? Or is it only in the youth of the nation that have embraced it? And how does the older more conservative generation feel about it? Do they disapprove? Or are they indifferent?

  • 1:music has no bondary.

2:I think every generation has its own preference.

question:I want to know the singer is Chinese? She is singing in English?

  • the short answer is yes and no.

"western pop culture" to China is like gay marriage to the US, it has become assimilated in the young urban population, but if you move away from the big cities, its still being labeled as foreign and alternative to the "mainstream" culture. Older populations are less like to accept it.

I think of it as a growth of local pop culture, more so than an invasion of "western pop culture" though. CHinese kids can do pop too.

  • Young people have fully accepted it, some embrace it some not, depending on their taste. Older people are generally indifferent to it. Actually you can hear western pop music all over China's public media all the time.

  • damn Im only 4th to comment...

  • I love Popil! Great music, too.

  • Interesting post-dragon-quest, surf-stadium sound, would love to hear live!

  • wow! i'm first to view this. :O
