Cultural question here, and please, by all means, excuse my ignorance. Has China fully accepted Western pop music? Or is it only in the youth of the nation that have embraced it? And how does the older more conservative generation feel about it? Do they disapprove? Or are they indifferent?
"western pop culture" to China is like gay marriage to the US, it has become assimilated in the young urban population, but if you move away from the big cities, its still being labeled as foreign and alternative to the "mainstream" culture. Older populations are less like to accept it.
I think of it as a growth of local pop culture, more so than an invasion of "western pop culture" though. CHinese kids can do pop too.
Young people have fully accepted it, some embrace it some not, depending on their taste. Older people are generally indifferent to it. Actually you can hear western pop music all over China's public media all the time.
