  • Man, could you name your videos as "part 1, part 2 etc" I have a hard time figuring out witch one comes first ...

    thanks for the tutorials

  • your voice is fucking annoying.

  • How come when I do this, there would be a white color between the two points? it doesn't become a line,.how do i get rid of that?

  • Is there a way to illustrator to create a "preview" of the curve/line before placing the point (just like in corel draw) ??

  • I've been trying to learn how to use paths, and this is the most useful thing I have seen all day! Thanks Dan.

  • i have a problem on illustrator. when i make a straight line using the pen tool i can't change the size of the line to make it smaller. can some one tell me how to fix that?

  • No offense but you sound like Stewie Griffin's brother, Chris. #FamilyGuy :)

    Very helpful tutorial. Hehe. ^^

  • A good tip for tracing photos or shapes is to trace the whole picture in one swoop, even if it isnt perfect. Then go back with the direct selection tool (white arrow) and tidy them up!

  • Thankyou so much! Great tutorial! You have a realy nice voice, kinda makes me horny ;)

  • man this vid really helped me thnx

  • thanks man.

    this helped

  • I'm just learning to use Illustrator so these are really helpful, but I'm just wondering why you didn't show that by making a curved line and then clicking on the anchor point you just made allows you to get rid of the second bezier handle, making it possible to do sharp points while still using only curved lines.

  • dude if you knew the problem you just helped me solve..........

  • i want a curve endin on a straight line how do i do?

  • Illustrator is so hard.. I thought it would be pretty easy, but when I got it I'm like.... @-@ yeah...

Thanks, you're very helpful. I prefer drawing free style so Illustrator is going to be a challange for me... not used to it, but I guess I could give it a shot... I just love free style, it's easier.

So this is going to be a little hard, but thank you very much for explaining all the pen tools. Those are very important for me to master.

  • Have you given up? The pen tool can drive you crazy, but if you start by tracing simple shapes like circles you can start to make progress.

I still draw by hand then scan the drawing in and trace with the pen tool. I'm finally getting better, and it's worth the trouble. Once you get some help and get better, you can see the value. Your drawings look really clean and parts can be saved (like faces, hands, etc.) and reused. They can then be tiny or big, colored in, etc. Hope you hang in!

  • Oh no, not yet. I will not give up until I finally master it, it's going to be a big pain but I know it will all be good in the end :)

  • The best tip I ever got? When your line or curve needs to radically change direction? Click and hold on your last point, press and hold down the option key (on a Mac, - Sorry, I don't know from PC's) and drag away from the point a little in the direction you need to go. Then, let off and go from there.

Cha-ching! You just turned on a dime.

Hope it works. If you never quit, you're never beat and you're not a loser!

I salute you for tackling something tough and staying with it.

  • Oh thanks, I have windows xp so I'll need to practice with the keys and see what kind of short cuts I discover ^-^

    Thanks for the tip, though!

  • Awesome keep with it, eventually it becomes second nature

  • other illustrator tutorials are so damn slow and don't get to the point, this was quick but verrrry understandable...you're a good teacher lol thanks

  • wow, thanks. buti still want a cinteq

  • I've just started with Illustrator and have been looking for beginner level tutorials. Your Pen Tool tutorial was just what I needed - thank you. I'll be viewing all of your videos. Thanks again!

  • Nice

  • where part 1 ?

  • very nice and simple tutorial...thanks

  • i really love yoru video's its so nice to sit back and learn something new. illustrator is my new found stress reliever and you do a great job explaining it in a laid back tone and its cool

  • Well this is understandable... hehe..

    Nice Job.. like it!

  • Finally I found a short and clear tutorial about the pen tool! THANX!

  • Excellent tutorial. So, I'm working in CS and until a minute ago, had the tear-offs. They don't show anymore. I can access the hidden tools through alt + click. But I want the tear-off again. Any idea what I have done and how I can get them back? Thanks - Blundering beginner here.

  • Hey, maybe you could number these vids?

  • How about one on bleed & trap on 4 color work??

  • Sorry I dont use Illustrator for any print work. Im 100% web rgb 72 dpi :)

  • Oh that made it seem less daunting, it seems pretty much nearly identical to Photoshop.

I've so far avoided Illustrator like the plague, but am now forced to do it for some sportswear toss, this'll help.

  • Awesome! You explained something that has proven so confusing for me and made it very easy! Having been a Photoshop guru for the past few years, I tend to lean heavily on it, not using Illustrator outside of adding text to my projects. As I branch off from my day job, starting my own media company, I get a lot of requests for custom logos. Your tutorials are incredibly helpful! Keep these joints comin'! THANKS!

  • Sweet! Knowing illustrator should be in every designers arsenal. I use it for pretty much everything. Thanks for the feedback and good luck with your media company!

  • amazing tutorial, thanks a bunch

  • very helpful: thanks!

  • damn...its much easier in photoshop

  • Thanks a million! this really helped. Are you planning on adding more tutorials?

  • I have a pretty ambitious project in the works I hope to release in the near future. In the meantime if there are any topics in illustrator youd like to learn more about, please feel free to send me a request. Thanks
