@Ladyblue449 I really don't know why his voice wasn't ruined from drugs because it seems that his voice just kept getting stronger as he got older. Things impact people differently, I guess.
I guess if you're a fan of Ruffin, you like this. But after listening to the original by Tony Jow White, and the cover by Brook Benton, this is like a flat beer compared to a fresh Heineken. Nice try, though....
no disrespect to MJ, brook benton, luther ingram, or even stevie wonder, but EVERY version he sang of another artist's song has now become my favorite...........UN-BE-LIEVE-ABLE.
I live in JOGAA if you feel me i played this one time durning consecutive raining nights my punk neighbors call the man and that ended my little thing!!!
The only version I ever knew of was Brooke Benton's which is definitely beautiful, but this is now my absolute favorite. This is raw to the bone, pure funk and soul, only how Ruffin could have done it, and the band is on point! Can you imagine how sick this would have been to hear LIVE?!?!
@ 43vert Such sweet, peaceful.... an arrow right to your soul kinda of music... the voice is like hot fudge on vanalla ice cream... caressing the ear...
If I could chose anyone to sing like, I'd have to chose David Ruffin. When I listen to him I feel the same peace I felt listening to music as a child.
@SamBlob Man, you're right about that, Nat has one beautiful voice. Too bad like many great talented people, they are taken away at too young an age. Yeah, Sam, I definitely agree with you.
David Ruffin is one of my all time favorite vocalist. And, this rendition of Brooke Benton's classic is justification. I've heard many of David's songs but I've never heard this one. Simply amazing. This version just left me speechless. David Ruffin is one of the unique talents that ever lived. I wish more of today's artist took their craft as serious as most of the artists did back in the day. Mr. Ruffin, you are truly missed.
My God, this track is just dripping soul, pain, hurt, loss, angst. Nobody, NOBODY translates these emotions more effectively or poignantly than David Ruffin.
There are a few versions of Brook Benton and it is fuckin beautiful, but Ruffin is givin it some gyp.Hes got the hurt in his voice, naughty arse sounds man.Excellente.
Berry Gordy need his but kicked for shelving this album , he wasn't a very smart business man after all as far as I'm concerned, this is just my opinion. He didn't allow David's fans to enjoy his music like we were entitled to. He actually short changed us when it came to Mr. Ruffin, and for that I have resentments towards Berry.
I've listened to both versions of this song,(Rainy Night In Georgia) by Brook and David. I remember when this song came out, and I really didn't like it at all. But when I saw it on line and saw that David was singing it. I first said to myself I don't like this song , and why is David singing this boring song. However I decided to listen to it, and was blown away, I couldn't believe my ears. Such vocal range that David put into this song is unbelievable,a musical genius, no one can't deny that.
I LOVED David. The Temptations were the first concert I ever went to at the Filmore Auditorium in San Francisco. I was front and center holding on to the stage. Caught David's eye and Eddie winked and smiled at me. I just swooned. This picture makes me sad. I can tell by his lips that he was on cocaine.
David does here the best version I've heard since Tony Joe White's original. I really think Tony Joe would love it and would be proud!!! I sure miss David!!!! he was one of the great voices of motown ....
@no14topfan I I had only heard Brook Benton sing this song and never thought anyone else could do it better, but David's version is a little smoother than Brook's, not better, just smoother. This is not yeyeb4u but ayo8 using yeyeb4u computer.
OKAY................. I THINK THIS I THE BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG ! AND YOUR CORRECT, I NEVER WAS SUPER CRAZY ABOUT THIS SONG UNTIL NOW ! DAVID YOU DID IT PROUD.
I never liked this song at all. However when I heard David singing this song I couldn't believe my ears. He's definitely a true musical genius. When you can make a person like a song, and then fall in love with the song , is pure genius. Now I understand everything about David's talent, a lot of people just wasn't ready for him, including MOTOWN and alot of the artist at Motown. Let's keep it real, his voice intimidated alot of people, except Eddie, Eddie truly loved him, and stood up for him.
I really didn't like this song at all. When I heard David Ruffin sing this, I was mesmorized in how his vocal range was so excellent. He put in this song so much emotion that I knoww Brook Benton was probably jealous of David's version. I know I would have been. However David was an exception to the rule when it came to having vocal range, what a gifted and annointed man with an exceptional voice. No one can do it like David Ruffin
I love both versions, but this is KILLER! More mid-range vocals and the build up is really unexpected and gives the song the pain that it's all about.
The Ruffin Brothers, David and Jimmy, have brought more joy into the world than all of the presidents that have ever served and all of the kings that have ever reigned. And who do we honor with our statues?
This is by far my farorite version...He makes me week at the knees...What a great artist,..Wonder if he had lived what other great songs and covers he would have given us...
En la epoca dorada de la soul music todos tenian su carisma por lo que las rivalidades estaban demas . lo importante es que nos dejaron un legado de bellas melodias para todas las generaciones
From 1970 to 1999 it seemed like time moved so slow. 2000 to present the days seem like they zip by. I like this song, it takes back to a better place in time. Its' to bad the world had to get into a big hurry. Thank you for the posting Pauleyh2
@YOgilee23 It's called "Getting older". ;-) Not to mention all of the entities that are trying to invade your brain in the name of profit. Once you become a member of the demographic target group, your blissful days are over. Been there, done that.
First, the reason why this is a bad remake of the Brook Benton classic is not because of David's vocals although this not his song. @talkingsports Otis was good... great but David's voice is unexplainable like he has the gospel in him them he can go up and do sweet and loud sweet and soft, Ruff and soft, and Ruff and loud...you'll see what im talking bout when you find out more about David and listen to the song that David covered like i want you back or a rainy night in Georgia or any other song
Man, I've read misguided statements on youtube, but this a doozy. Listen to "I've Got Dreams To Remember" or his cover of "A Change is Going to Come" and get back with me on that. Ruffin was maybe...no probably, the greatest soul singer ever, but this is Brook Benton's song. Better arrangement behind Benton too. You put Brook on "My Girl" or "Walk Away From Love"...you got nothin.

Ruffin was maybe...no probably, the greatest soul singer ever, but this is Brook Benton's song. Better arrangement behind Benton too. You put Brook on "My Girl" or "Walk Away From Love"...you got nothin.
