I saw Donny Osmond as Joseph many times once on stage and all the other times on VHS (taped from when the movie musical version of Joseph was on TV, the making of the Canadian production also starring Donny Osmond was on TV (wich I still have on tape), and the movie musical version of Joseph on DVD(wich I got for my 13th birthday) from my sister who cannot sing any of the Joseph songs like I can! I can sing Any Dream Will Do and Close Every Door with lots of dramatic passion!

No know that Lee Mead left the show before it closed! I really wanted to go to London and see Joseph on stage for my sixth time! I have already seen the musical 5 timrs starting with the Donny Osmond production that this one was based on! Then I saw a production at my mother's school with my mom and dad, then I saw a dinner theater's production of Joseph followed by a local town production, and then, I saw Patrick Cassidy as Joseph with neice,mother,and my sister. So I have it 5 times!

Yes it certainly does when you're enjoying an awesome musical like Joseph and the amazing technicolor Dreamcoat wich was an awesome musical since I was little when I saw Donny Osmond as Joseph when I was 6 years old with my mom and dad my sister got me and my parents tickets to see Joseph with Donny Osmond as Joseph wich was my very first Joseph musical experience! Donny, Michael Damian and Lee Mead are the best Josephs that I have seen and heard I never saw Michael Damian and I have the CDs!

Donny was the very first Joseph I saw when I was little and I also own the cd of all the Joseph productions in english! Lee is awesome! Thank go he won the title role! I love Joseph it's one of my favorite musicals!

I perform the role of Joseph when I do the musical in my attic I play Joseph and the children's chorus is imaginary along with the Brothers, Jacob, Narrarator, Potiphar, Pharoah and the Ishmaelites. In fact the whole set is imaginary I even own(or made) my own Coat of many Colors! One from an old robe that I used and a torn up gown with a bird on the back that my mom gave me that's the one I use when the Brothers sell me into slavery when I'm sent off to Egypt!

There hasn't been a big screen movie musical of Joseph -sad to say; but.. there is a VCR (and maybe a DVD) that was produced just for VCR with Donnie Osmond in the role. It was produced in Britain without an audience. It is fantastic!!

'The lead' (whose name is Lee Mead, btw) has been described by Andrew Lloyd Webber as "One of the greatest, if not THE greatest, Joseph we've ever had!" Obviously, he sees genuine talent in Lee, as have the thousands of people whp flocked to see him during his highly succesful 18 month run!

Incidentally, I think Donny is a good singer and probably the second best Joseph after Lee.

Mead is not even in the same league as Donny. Webber is not going to jeopardize a running production by saying the lead is weak, duh. Mead is not doing anything spectacular, I've heard and seen amateur Josephs perform better than him. Osmond was and is untouchable and safe in the # 1 spot of best Joseph ever, hands down.

I think Donny is great - probably the second best Joseph. However, for me, Lee pips him to the post as number one! He takes what can be (in the wrong hands) an insipid, 'plinky-plonky' song and really puts emotion into the lyrics.

Incidentally, this clip comes from a LIVE performance of the show, not a music video. Lee is supposed to be 'acting' (it's musical theatre, not a pop concert). Therefore, he's performing ADWD as it should be performed in the context of the show.

So sorry I wasn't clear about what I ment. What I was trying to say is Lee was (obviously since that's what he's supposed to do) acting it out, but he just seems to overdo it a bit. I suppose the main thing is that the character is singing, and it's not a place for dialogue. It seems that he can't separate the two. Emotions are just as strong no matter how many times you practice it.

Also they both were equally prepared prior to preforming. It wasn't quite as spontaneous and raw as you think.

I agree, Lee is acting the song, which is what musical theatre is about. Singing and acting. This was taken on Lee's first night where nerves are bound to be a factor. I have seen him in the show many times and he has been spectacular. He has had very high praise from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice who know what they want out of a Joseph!

I don't like to compare Joseph's as they all bring a certain quality to the role.
