Ironically the "chess board game" style of gameplay for origin works far better than the hack & slash style of DAII. In DAII you feel like a one man army, which is cool at first but later on it just gets dull, In origin there is FAR more strategising involved which actually makes combat more dynamic.
I will say, I do really like the idea of a mage clad in armor (wish there were more in game options like the Armor of the Champion) and the staff-sword combination. I wish the blade end on the Staff of Parthalan was bigger/longer proportionally. (again like the Destiny trailer... Along with that ripping spell)
What amazes me is that the developers of Dragon Age 2 don't seem to understand many of the fans of the original Dragon Age one bit. The guys in this video are imo either a bunch of brainless action-hungry business-tycoons or just lying to make the product sell better (which isn't much different). Those guys really did a good job, people who said they fucked up Dragon age, is very wrong, now its not just tactics and story, its even combat, in origins i always had to bring with me atleast 1 mage and 1 healer or else i would fail most of the times, and use many potions, in this one, the other classes rogues and warriors could not survive alone in origins, in this, evry class can do something.
This game still have tactics, Difficulty is made for a purpose, to easy? raise the difficulty!

I really enjoyed the that the character was voiced, that really made Hawk come alive and added some personality to him. I wish it had nore awsome sequences, i only had few. Played a rogue with logbows.

After reading some stuff I thought the game would be horrible. I played DA:O and Awakening with 100% completion. I have to say the things they improved do make up for the things DA2 lacked. All in all I had just as much fun playing it as I did in the first one. I hope they make a good expansion.

I'm a bit dissapointed with DA 2 - 'cause my character was never so cool, as it was showed in trailers. The game is full of crappy-looking items, in which your char looks like a douchebag. You couldn't also wield those cool weapons, having only things like "razor", which looked worse than items from Baldurs Gate 1 (-.-) And, althought there were many things I would complain about, in the end I have to admit the game bring me some fun... But not as much as I suspected from the trailers...

The game is a cheap money grab, whatever style and originality it had is gone for the sake of cheap power-rangers-like stuff and 95% of game is you doing sidequests in a copy-paste of the same location(game has ~3 dungeons it reuses again and again and again).
Barely anything is like origins, almost all RPG mechanics and Baldurs Gate similarities are gone.

Origins was an amazing game. Hands down the best fantasy rpg Ive ever played. Mass Effect/ME2 is hands down the best scifi rpg/fps whatever you want to call it Ive ever played. There were only 2 things i wished DAO had, and the have put both of those from ME into DA2. TALKING dialog. It really does make a difference (imho). DAO's tactics were great. However even using tactics the combat just took way too long. The fluid motions of the new combat coupled with the tactics felt way more fun to me.
@TranceEmotion I tried to enjoy Origins but the controls were just so damn awkward. I was told that it was a lot better on PC and after playing it on the 360 I have to say that I see where it would be easier. I paid for the game brand new and so I was not willing to go out and buy the PC version just because the controls were better. But I downloaded the demo for DA2 and... wow. I just bought the game today and will be pulling an all-nighter.
Now if only they kept the finishers from Origins. I've played through the game twice and I have seen no finishers except for cenimatics for certain bosses.
@TranceEmotion you HAVE to try Baldur's Gate series only IF you aren't a graphics fanatic. Developed by Bioware and offers a real open world environment that differs from Origins. You can do ANYTHING. Including slaughtering a small village only to have guards hound you non-stop everytime you enter a civilized area. You attain a reputation that is not only limited to party members but also to the rest of the world.

I wouldn't saw Hawke is any kind of chosen on at all. Rather he's someone who started as a person with modest power who ROSE to greatness. I don't think it's a case of any star crossed fate so much as it is of someone with an indomitable will.
@Mindtweaker2 yes but dont u think the whole idea of having a "set" protagonist, with a "set" name and face is actually a strong testament that they are promoting the transparent "chose one" concept? where as in DAO ur it is up to u to force the esteem into a commoner dwarf or an elven scoundrel, in DAO i never felt my player being the chosen one, until i've made progress, in DAO, i think it's not about being the hero and all, rather, its about ur party as the grey wardens
@dragonbukid Well they aren't doing a set set name and face. At least not set first name. The face is customizable, the name is so that they can do a more dialogue and character driven story, not unlike Mass Effect. I can see where you're coming from, believe me, but I don't think this'll take away from the game.
My stance is this. Bioware has, in my experience, yet to put out a bad game. I'm gonna trust them with this one until I experience it.

people...the game is incredible! just because youre party members have now a
bigger brain then in da:o it does not mean u need less tactic. and just becuz they took the dialog layout from mass effect, it does not mean its "dragon effect". sure
the game is not as long as da:o, but if you do all the side quests (companions,
rumors,etc.) you will get up to 25 h to 30h game play wich is also interesting
but srsly? i bet every hater will still play it, becuz its still a freaking good game!

Friendly advice: don't buy this game or wait till it drops to 15$ in bargain bin...
The game is a cheap money grab, whatever style and originality it had is gone for the sake of cheap power-rangers-like stuff and 95% of game is you doing sidequests in a copy-paste of the same location(game has ~3 dungeons it reuses again and again and again).
Barely anything is like origins, almost all RPG mechanics and Baldurs Gate similarities are gone.

would every stop bitching yes theres some just hack and slash but there are still tactics and you have to use a shit ton of tactics if you play on a difficultly above "pussy"
i cant stop playing this game is almost perfect the only i problem i have with this game is the level's, they use the same location over and over like every cave place looks the same but besides that this is the funnest tactical rpg i have ever played

People seem to confuse "flashy moves" with "it's not tactical".
Ffs, people, the game is still as tactical as DAO; the moves are just spiced up a bit. Nothing wrong with that.

@floopsie666 srry can't agree with u I mean I'm playing origins right now in prep for da2 and when I played the demo for da2 I found it very tactical maybe that's because I tried different style of weapons and used my other types of attacks. And buffs I mean yeah u can button mash but I actually tried to use every thing in the demo I love origins it's one of my fav games but this is not 1995 it 2011 u can't have a dice roll based rpg anymore it runs to slow I just was in the bathroom for 10min

Origins was an amazing game. Hands down the best fantasy rpg Ive ever played. Mass Effect/ME2 is hands down the best scifi rpg/fps whatever you want to call it Ive ever played. There were only 2 things i wished DAO had, and the have put both of those from ME into DA2. TALKING dialog. It really does make a difference (imho). DAO's tactics were great. However even using tactics the combat just took way too long. The fluid motions of the new combat coupled with the tactics felt way more fun to me.

@TranceEmotion I tried to enjoy Origins but the controls were just so damn awkward. I was told that it was a lot better on PC and after playing it on the 360 I have to say that I see where it would be easier. I paid for the game brand new and so I was not willing to go out and buy the PC version just because the controls were better. But I downloaded the demo for DA2 and... wow. I just bought the game today and will be pulling an all-nighter.

@TranceEmotion you HAVE to try Baldur's Gate series only IF you aren't a graphics fanatic. Developed by Bioware and offers a real open world environment that differs from Origins. You can do ANYTHING. Including slaughtering a small village only to have guards hound you non-stop everytime you enter a civilized area. You attain a reputation that is not only limited to party members but also to the rest of the world.

It's just a demo, but I think it's awesome. Of course it's not a pure-blood RPG, but I don't really mind since the action is pretty intense and there's still lot's of strategy involved, as far as I can see in the demo.

He says that they dont whnat DA to look like a chess game.. Are you kidding me? In origins battles were the best part: you had to be stratygic and know a few thnigs.It was hard ,but after a long battle you could be realy proud of yourslef. At first,after DA2 demo the feeling was WOW. But when 3 time playing I realised that all moves were ridicously fast...

@darkspineshadow12345 well jackass, i didnt rant about the demo, what i said that da2 kinda receded back to the "chosen one" concept where the main char is a demigod, in DAO yes you are a chosen one not because u were born as such, but because all the other chosen one candidates are either dead or have low self-esteem, in DAO no one will recognize u as a chosen one, until the mid part of the game, and u have to tell them ure a grey warden first, thats a big difference from the main char of DA2

I wouldn't saw Hawke is any kind of chosen on at all. Rather he's someone who started as a person with modest power who ROSE to greatness. I don't think it's a case of any star crossed fate so much as it is of someone with an indomitable will.

@Mindtweaker2 yes but dont u think the whole idea of having a "set" protagonist, with a "set" name and face is actually a strong testament that they are promoting the transparent "chose one" concept? where as in DAO ur it is up to u to force the esteem into a commoner dwarf or an elven scoundrel, in DAO i never felt my player being the chosen one, until i've made progress, in DAO, i think it's not about being the hero and all, rather, its about ur party as the grey wardens

@dragonbukid Well they aren't doing a set set name and face. At least not set first name. The face is customizable, the name is so that they can do a more dialogue and character driven story, not unlike Mass Effect. I can see where you're coming from, believe me, but I don't think this'll take away from the game.
My stance is this. Bioware has, in my experience, yet to put out a bad game. I'm gonna trust them with this one until I experience it.
