Samsung P3 UI Responsiveness VS Cowon S9

Had the P3 for 7months, touchscreen already starting to go...if you upgrade your firmware to the last one, touchscreen is/was pretty sharp.

@radiohead322 Really? I just listened to my S9 and I can say for certain that the P3 was inferior in terms of sound quality. Plus, I've noticed that the support coming from the developer (Cowon) and the community is slightly better then Samsung and co. That's just personal though, honestly, you have to admit that you cannot go wrong with either 3 if you want a good MP3 player. For everything besides music (ironically) theres the Itouch. :)

IMO you can't really go wrong with a Cowon pmp in terms of sound quality. They are, without a doubt, some of the best sound portable music players on the market. That's thanks to Cowon's BBE+ technology.

i got the p3, touch screen stopped working after 2 months. The p3 touch is slower than the p2. Bluetooth is excellent on the p3. I just bought the s9 because the touch sensors are better and has longer battery life.

The classic ipod range are overpriced and underfeatured. The touch is overpriced for it's screen and processing grunt.

if you don't want to play around with your customisation, get an ipod, if you don't care about sound quality, get an ipod, if you're an apple fanboy, get an ipod.

If you're an intelligent consumer who cares more about his/her experience with a product rather than the apple logo, have a look around, you probably won't end up with an ipod.

The only decent android devices at the moment are all phones, and hence are a lot more expensive than any mp3 player, and also murder the battery life due to 3g, snapdragon/hummingbird processors and being a phone.

I used to use an archos 5 IT but archos's crappy app store, buggy firmware updates, shoddy build quality and crappy resistive touch screen scared me off it.

Archos originally claimed it was because android apps weren't meant to run at WVGA, although the android forerunner phones now all run at WVGA resolutions, but Archos's reasoning was that they would only let apps through that worked with the 5 IT's hardware.

They have about 100 apps available, all are pretty crap, some need multitouch (archos is a resistive screen), loads don't work in full screen etc. and the AppsLib process crashed almost constantly.

Not really. The ipod touch is overpriced and when lacking 3g, the usefulness of it's apps will always be limited. It starts off overpriced, then you are thrown into a UI which is designed to get you to buy more and more apps.

A few apps are useful, but very few provide functions that trump a phone.

Also, the ipod touch will always be left behind and locks you into itunes and the app store, which is why I got out of the apple music system as soon as I could after my nano

I got my P3 brand new 16Gb for 100... That's less than the 8Gb Nano, which means I have a lot more to spend on headphones.. I get my music legally, I generally get everything I can legally, that may just be me but I feel like I support the musicians I like, and to steal their music makes me a hypocrite.

I get why people like the ipod, totally, but I dislike how people assume that they're best for everything because they're most popular, and evreything else is shit.

If we're looking at apps and web browsing, as an mp3 player the ipod touch is good. However, archos, despite their poor support, trump the touch very easily with their 5" WVGA screen, and any android phone trumps the touch as well, even ignoring the 3G/4G connectivity.

The itouch is expensive because apple know they can charge that much, and because apple spend a lot on marketing. The app store is their main source of income on ipod touch's, despite jailbreaking.

For the most part I also feel like the touch really isn't much cop as a gaming device. it may be able to run moderately impressive graphics, but ultimately the lack of physical buttons and proper development support means games are usually just bus stop time killers, rather than properly produced games.

As an mp3 player it has poor sound quality, as a PMP the screen is too low res, same for web browsing, and as a gaming machine there's no depth.

No I had nothing to say about browsing because there's a character limit on youtube. The touch is passable as a web browsing device, but by no means "great"

ANY 3g phone, even at 320*240, trumps the touch for web browsing, any Archos 5 or 7, whether on Android or not, trumps the touch for web browsing. The Android WVGA phones and the iphone 4 are miles ahead simply due to screen res, and the resizing on the touch is poor as well, so the bad res is amplified.

I have an S9 and love it for the sound quality and the ability to actually properly drive higher end earphones and headphones unlike the iPod Touch. The S9 feels a little clunky in my opinion, not as smooth. But I let that take a back seat because I can't stand the sound quality of an iPod. It's awful IMO.

I took my S9 back and got the ipod touch because i read up on the issue i was having and learned that it is a common issue with alll S9s when using a mac. S9 is not very mac compatible and macs cause them to freeze and you end up having to reformat it. Theyre best if youre on a pc. i know the S9 has better sound, but i am pleasantly pleased with my ipod touch.

i tried hard to go against the ipod grain but in the end, i drank the kool aid lol

It looks like this isn't an issue with the Macs as it occurs on Linux and Windows too.

The problem lies in the 32GB model and transferring files over the 16GB point. This is what is bricking the S9s.

Ive got the S9 and I couldnt be happier, Ive got these killer sony ear buds, and with all of the great eq tweaks etc. you can totally tell the huge difference it makes from the stock/normal way the track sounded.

Haha yeah I do. It's freaking awesome. xD for the price it's really really nice. The main problem i have is that it doens't have wifi. But it's really nice. The sound quality AND video quality is really amazing. I think the video quality is even better than the ipods. Since the p3 can run flac and other audio formats, it has an even better audio quality too.

i wonder if he really is using the latest firmware.. somethin weird about this. at my new job (Brandsmart in Sawgrass W00T W00T!!!!!) i messed around with the one they have on display and its below 2.07 firmware...and it switches home screens very quickly. alot faster than the one in the video. it scrolled alot smoother too. strange really. also for ne1 stuck between the 2...its preference. s9 has better screen and unnoticably better sound. p3 = more file types supported + superior bluetooth

Yes, indoors, even during the day, I keep the screen brightness at lvl 1 (6 being max). It is more than enough for me. Outside I keep it anywhere from 4-6 though.

@1337gamer4life, as i have used the new ipod touch with speaker that my bro owns, there are nothing speical about touch. just has bunch of apps. if you wanna buy touch due to wifi and the apps, feel free to buy it. if you want a bluetooth, use it as touch screen phone, great sound quality that S9 and P3 offers also the formats they offer for music and video, you might wanna stick with them. but i was never fan of Apple ipod so i might be wrong. But i doubt it that i'm wrong~

hey enzoten i bought a p3 4 days ago and i have a probleme with the world clock!

i live in germany but the clock isn´t correct. for example my clock is 3:47 pm but Berlin is 6:47 am

IF i set Seoul as the displayed time then it is correct but if i choose Berlin or other cities it isn´t correct anymore.

AND i can´t upgrade my P3. i have all firmwares

1.18, 1.21, 1.23, 2.07, 1.28, 2.10

but if i drag and drop it to my device and plug it out it doesn´t update

Glad I've got my Cowon S9, The P3 doesn't look like it'll knock the S9 of it's throane but if it's priced right it'll definitely be a contender, also more people know Samsung as it's pretty much a household name, Cowon isn't mainstream in Western Europe (not so sure about USA)

cowon isnt mainstream in the usa..but it sounds good to me. the p3 seems cool but from the reviews i think im going to lean toward the Cowon S9 because i love good sound quality! Also another thing that has me sold is there are some buttons on the device that allow u to quickly skip and replay songs. so if u have it in ur pocket u can just reach in and do that without having to take it out and look at/touch the screen. thats a deciding factor for me.

Cowon's AMOLED screen is slightly better, but its not a big enough difference to be a deciding factor. Also in regard to your comments above- If you watch the video you will see that the responsiveness is just the same. The P3 also supports H.264/MP4 and the S9 does not. From the guy who made this video and owns both players- the P3 is an all around better player.

Well to all of you who've replied to me, I own a P2, right now I'm having trouble with it and don't get me wrong, I love samsung and always have, but I'm leaning towards the S9. Unless there is someone who can show me some absolutely stunning facts about the P3 that I don't already know. Besides, I'm pretty sure the P3's screen isn't scratch-proof, and for me not needing a case is a big deal.

the P3's screen is literally scratch proof. there was a test in which a guy used a sharp knife to scratch the glass but there were no marks left on it.. so id say it is pretty tough.
