People always talk about how crappy these cars are and how bad they look, but if they were given a chance to drive one of them, they would be drooling all over themselves.
Fellas... calm down... new cars are on the way and they're going to be beautiful. This series is really starting to pick of massive momentum all over the country and now even in South America! Can't wait till the month of May!
WOW Indy race in my hometown of Leeds, AL. Who would have thought!! There were probably more people at this testing than at any race in the entire 2008 Indy season!!
Well first of all Birmingham has nothing to do with Barber Motorsports Park sense the track is not IN the city of Birmingham. BMP is actually in the city of LEEDS, Alabama. The city of Birmingham is not "practically bankrupt." The county that birmingham is in, is practically bankrupt. Actually if you go and ask the average person you will find that they relate ALL open wheel racing to road courses more then ovals. OH and Indianapolis is Rectangular not Oval.
TT Circuit Assen was designed for motorcycles, but that was one of the most exciting races of the final Champ Car season. Being designed for motorcycles does NOT automatically mean nothing else can race on it well. The Rolex Sports Car Series has always managed to put on a good show there.
The fans are demanding more road courses. You go where the fans want you to go. The TV ratings on Versus thus far this year indicate the road and street circuits are getting more attention.
Before the split, CART was king of the US racing scene. Even F1 felt threatened by it - Bernie Ecclestone pushed Tony George to create the IRL. Enough said about that.
CART's only bad ideas were TV-related. Nobody watched because nobody could find it. CART always had better racing(even the Indy 500 was better with the CART equipment). CART and Champ Car always had full grandstands save for a few select venues, compared to the usually-empty IRL grandstands.
yeah okaaay buddy!!! berni ecclestone was worried cuz formula 1 wasnt bein watched as much in america as the cart... gotta kno 1 thing man ... formula 1 is an european thing .. not american ..barely any ppl back then n now days follow formula 1 ...cuz most of those americans are stuck in 4th gear with that hick series called nascrap...
Secondly, learn your racing history. F1's popularity declined sharply when Nigel Mansell defected to CART in 1993, and CART's popularity skyrocketed.
Third, NASCAR was still a regional southern thing back then, and it's rise to popularity did not begin until the split occurred in 1996. CART was king in America from about 1988(when the IMSA GT Series started to decline) until the split.
ive run barber, during a SVO meet. it is really a great track. lots of elevation changes. the second from the last turn into the front straight can get tricky, its a decieving right hander.
fuck IRL drivers r finally DRIVING..with some road courses now .. this series was on my " series for handicaped drivers that only turn left like nascrap".. now this boys n girl r gonna have to show what they are caplable of
You're entitled to your opinion, but having actually raced on both, I'll take the challenge of a road course over the simplicity of an oval any day. I LIKE having to actually DRIVE my car.
That said, Detroit is a just plain crappy course, I'm glad its gone, and Mid-Ohio is only suitable for sports cars so it need to be replaced with Cleveland.
I don't think me or racermac were ever Champcar losers. I know I was on the IRL side of the split, but I at least can recignize when CART had a good idea.
Let me tell you something. Barber Motorsports is one of the most beautiful tracks in the United States. It's a European-style race course deep in Alabama (actually not extremely far from Talladega). I wish more series here and internationally should race at Barber Motorsports Park. A rumor I heard was that the IndyCar Series COULD race at Barber Motorsports Park as a championship race in the future. And really, I'd LOVE to see that happen because this is a wonderful track.
Yea i have heard many rumors that the people at BMP are trying to get a championship race there in possibly 2011 or 2012. I live about 20 minutes from the track and about 45 from talladega. BMP is a gorgeous facility and a competitive track.
I was there at the testing. There was alot of people there on Sunday. If they had a race there I bet the number of people would be 3 times more. I'm posting video over on my channel of the weekend.

Indy cars are totally equal, engines and chassis for all teams..
F1 cars are not a mono chassis and engine series..Ferrari team have his engine and chassis, Mercedes have his engine and chassis.. etc. etc..
is not comparable with Indy car..

Those cars are really ugly, by far F1 cars are far better looking.

Road & street courses are the most popular form of racing in the WORLD. The naysayers are clueless... taxi cab fans I'm sure.
