Many of the rock musicians have often learned them selfes to play. I don't know the case with Judas Priest. I have thought myself (that don't mean I'm any good hehe) but I can recommend starting with Breaking the law or Electric eye, they are rather easy tunes (excluding the solo from the latter, that is too hard for me).

Once I saw Judas Priest in my hometown (in Sweden). I stood 4 feet from KK Downing and there where only 200 people in the crowd - that was pretty surreal...

@maidenizeyou Well that is a great start for you ) I personally wouldn't recommend that you deliberately will try to sound as an other band (if you will have a band); it will seldom get any special out of that except a great cover-band. But I know what you mean - I don't know much about the music of today and not about modern metal either. Popular bands like "the one with the masks" (don't remember their name of the band now) is rather crappy. Actually, Linkin Park, is a exception.

But there's tons of awesome metal out today. Killswitch Engage, BFMV, The Agonist, and more. Roll with it.....Priest and all the original bands owe the new generation of metal for keeping metal alive and bringing attention back to them today :-p
