  • So why a Guild? Just curious how you came across it. Love Starfires.

  • @Zuhzuhzombie first electric i had as a teen was a black '67 Guild Starfire. Been trying to recapture that feeling of awesomeness ever since!

  • It's actually very light, being a fully hollow thinline.

  • is it heavy?

  • I like the way you play, bra

  • great vid! love your style

  • Hey man, great sounding stuff. good playing. do you know what the difference is between the silverface and the blackface princeton reverb?

  • @bluesmysoul they are different schematics with different parts and such, but I think it boils down to the silverfaces sounding cleaner, and the blackfaces sounding warmer. But with a 10 inch speaker they're both pretty "beamy" - not lush amps, unless you kick in that reverb!

  • @Jahnli - There are just a few different electrical components - it's usually very easy to "blackface" silverface amps. And given that this was the switch from pre-CBS designs to CBS designs, it's usually considered the thing to do - my blackface '66 PR can sound plenty lush with one 10" - although the other big mod for PR's is to change out the baffle to get a 12" speaker in there.

  • Man, that sounds great. I have a Starfire III exactly like that except for the Bigsby. A good guitarist doesn't need a Bigsby. I have just explained why I have a Bigsby. lol.

  • Sweet! Today i tested a similar guild and i loved it! I'm trying to sell my les paul now so i can buy that crazy guild!! Really nice tone and playing. I really love your sound!

  • Thanks for posting this -- now I know this the guitar I want! Sweet clean tone, shown well by your playing.

  • Wow, I used to have one of these but I shure couldn't play it so nice. Nice tribute to a solid instrument!

  • How do you compare the sound of the mini humbuckers to a Gibson Humbucker or perhaps to a P90?

  • Compared to a full humbucker like a Gibson '57, you'll get a drier, less muddy tone. When you crank it, the overdrive won't be as smooth - it'll be more "garagey." Less output means more air and chime!

  • thanks. I have a Starfire III but someone removed the pickups and I just found a set of the original PUs. I am hoping this will give the guitar more bite.

  • Sounds awesome! Just gorgeous.

  • is this amp loud enough to cut over a drummer

  • for small clubs, yes. something like a vibro champ, no.

  • Very cool. The Guild Starfires are among my favorite vintage guitars. When i'm a little more serious about playing I'll upgrade to one but right now it would be a waste of money for me. :(

  • beautiful tone!

  • Very sweet sound - thanks

  • Well done. I like it very much--very pretty.

  • Man what a Guitar. I used own one in the mid 70's. Like a fool sold to eat and pay the rent. One day It will return to me. KB

  • that was awesome dude sweet guitar. was that a song or something you just put together. it sounded really cool.

  • just something i put together, thanks!

  • Very nice playing and awesome tone.

  • beautiful

  • Nice sound ! I have been an owner of a Guild Starfite III from 1966 in sunburst. Unnfortunately I sold the guitar 10 years ago, becaus I needed money to buy another guitar !

  • nice playin....is the guitar a '65? didnt know starfires were made then. Are the reissues any good?,,,

  • That's right, the Starfire is a '65, they make them even earlier than that as well, great guitars. The reissues are really well made as well, the 90's reissues from the Westerly plant. Different pickups of course, but the construction and choice of woods are excellent.

  • Cool! I have the black one.

  • Sounds nice what position did you put the 12AU7 in? thanks

  • V1, so it really lowered the overall volume but cleaned up the headroom - pretty much removed all the overdrive!

  • very nice, lovely guitar playing! i have a '78 princeton reverb which is a little modified, i can select between 8w and 16w pluss the original speaker replaced with a weber 10". wonderful little amp that is big in sound :)

  • You got it, the small 60's Guild buckers are some of the sweetest pickups for hollowbody/semihollows out there. They can sweeten up even the cleanest Fender amp without getting muddy.

  • That's great sounding guitar, very musical sound to it. Definitely on my radar now.

  • Hi,

I got a 1963 Guild Starfire Spruce Blond.

It was owned by Steve Mariot (Small Faces)

Of the Sruce Blond are only 6 made world wide.

Sounds like a dream, joure guitar too.

    Greets from Holland

    Ton.

  • the amp is killer!

  • Those single coils De Armond are just great. Bell-like tone. Tried som on a Gretsch and quite simila actually.

  • Unless they have been swapped, those bell-like tones are coming from the Guild low-impedance humbuckers. I have a 1963 Guild Starfire III with the same pickups and it sings. Those Guild humbuckers have an incredible tone. They sell for a small fortune all by themselves.

  • Beautiful Sound it just Rings -- Charles
